Tuezal Kai

Tuezal sighed as he stood outside a great mansion near the outskirts of Omashu. It was the residence of a very wealthy merchant named Gao. Gao had heard of the particular services provided by Tuezal and had recruited him. “Damn, the rich are always the hardest to protect,” he thought to himself as he walked into the massive mansion.

“Ah! You have arrived!”
The voice came from up the nearby stairs and Tuezal looked up to find a rather short and plump man standing right on the top of them. “I am so glad you are here…Uh where do I begin…Oh yes…as I stated in my letter to you someone is trying to kill me…I don’t know why…I am just one of the leaders of the Omashu merchant’s guild…I have a family…and…” Tuezal raised an eyebrow as he stared at the man who was frantically pacing up and in a rather comedic manner due to his stout build.

“That’s quite alright,” Tuezal interrupted, “That’s what I’m here for…you must be Mr. Gao.”
The man nodded at Tuezal and nervously walked down the stairs. “If someone is here to kill you I’ll find them, for now you just have stay calm and in one place…I’ll need to have a look around.” Tuezal said looking around the main hall.

“But we don’t have time!”
Gao interrupted, “I am travelling to Ba Sing Se to see my family!”

“What!? Travelling while someone is trying to kill you? It’s bad enough staying in this massive house, but on the road you’ll be a sitting duck!” Tuezal protested. He just knew something would happen.

“Well what am I paying you for then?” Gao replied angrily, “Now will you help me or not?”

Tuezal sighed. “Very well…but it’s not a good idea at all,” he said as he shook his head.

Plans were made and discussed, and soon Tuezal and Gao were leaving the large estate in a small carriage pulled by two ostrich-horses, heading on the road towards Ba Sing Se. Tuezal was escorting him alone, apart from two of Gao’s personal guard which Gao insisted come along, as he couldn’t be sure which of Gao’s other servants could be trusted. Tuezal was at the reigns and kept a sharp lookout as they travelled the long road to Ba Sing Se.

After a day’s journey, they found themselves in a large forest, and Tuezal was especially cautious. This was a perfect spot for an ambush.

Hakota-Zai

It was some time ago Hakota had been called to the guard of one Gao, some merchant apparently high up in the guilds. Zai didn't really maintain his knowledge in such people, but it seemed he was quite well renown, still; seeing as he'd both been approached to protect the endangered man and by a more shady figure to also kill him. With his darker days behind him, however, he was hired to defend the walking mass of a man who's stomach was more bloated than his wallet, but so long as there was a wallet to pay, Zai didn't mind the job.

He was attending the main hall when Gao's visitor (a man known for his specialization in defending men from such assassins, and someone Zai knew of from his days as one, though only on word) entered the estate, presenting himself to their charge. Even with disinterest in the briefing he'd heard weeks ago, his eye was keen on the shadows, keeping with his intent to guard the wealthy man.

While it was good procedure to examine the building for any particular places of vulnerability for the charge, not only did Zai already keep to such things, but they were do to leave soon. The dissatisfaction on Tuezal's visage as he protested was shared by the Vagrant Mercenary. But their present employer insisted, and so it would be.

The plans went by and they departed upon their initially uneventful trip, Zai walking by foot of his own preference to riding any form of mount. Such was unlike the other guard, who -unlike Hakota- wore a more traditional Omashu guard's armor, whereas the merc donned an aged, worn variant of Kiyoshi garb with a brutalized cloak little more than tatters. The merchant had pleaded with him to change his attire, but Zai refused on the ground that he would fight best so, and would be more easily recognized. Having attempted the Queen herself at a point, most assassins knew of Hakota.

Now, though, the arrived at a forested area; of course a place perfect for ambush. The guard was tense despite Zai's calm disposition, glancing every which direction and unsettled by every snapped twig or skittering creature. Enough so to relinquish a sigh from the laid back once-Kiyoshi warrior. But the day was dwindling, and the moment drew near where they could most expect an ambush-- and despite appearances, he was ready.

Zehir

The blonded-black snake had a venom that dissolved skin in a short amount of time. Many people used it as a means of torture, because watching your own skin dissolve as it simmered away was one of the many things people were not willing to do. Zehir would use it to get enough money to survive for a month. The blonded-black snake was easily recognized by it's light-yellow tummy and it's shimmering black body. It was rare though. Zehir had been waiting in a tree all day, hoping that what she'd recognized as a snake trail would give her one of the rare creatures. This snake trail happened to intersect with the main path, which would make it easier for Zehir to see it.

Her throwing knife at the ready, Zehir watched with sleepy eyes as the day grew longer and longer. Every once in a while, someone walked along the path, but Zehir was sure not to be noticed. She didn't want any kind of conversation. She was getting ready to leave once it was obvious it was about to be dark. The night would be too cold for snakes to come out any longer. But, what was that down on the path? As a chariot approached, a snake also decided to make its way across the path. How unusual for a snake to get so close to humans, maybe it was desperate for food? And it was the one Zehir had been searching for! The chariot had almost reach the snake, right when Zehir threw her deadly knife.

It just missed, an unlikely occurence, Zehir blamed it on how sleepy she was. But now she had a new animal to deal with. The knife had made an audible noise as it struck the ground, and was sticking out of the dirt quite obviously. It had been pretty close to hitting one of the chariot's ostrich-horses actually. Zehir sat in the tree, trying to make herself very small and unnoticeable.

Word had reached the traveling mercenary by carrier bird, the note attached gripped within Grell's hands. She had skimmed through it thoroughly while she ate, and she would oblige. She never turned down a job for her order. With her destination set, she would have to go about it with caution, but that wasn't really her style. He was loaded, of course he would be guarded. But she had one target, and once he was downed, she 'could' avoid the mass of heathens to follow.

With the time and path of the day given to her in the message, she set off to intercept accordingly. To Ba Sing Se, from somewhere near Omashu, it was like one was broadcasting it to the world, and it would be obvious that he knew he was being targeted. The order would prefer to instill the fear of their belief in their targets, and Grell was to be the right hand of their order. She was near Ba Sing Se at the time of the message's arrival, so she would go along the path towards Omashu, hoping to catch them on the way soon. really soon.

Ordering an eel hound from her small overnight stay in the town outside Ba Sing Se, she made quick work of the route to try and catch up as fast as possible. When she would arrive, she planned on parking, or stopping and leashing the thing to a distant tree so as to keep it as a distraction. Traversing such a large area in such a short amount of time was a good thing, thank you eel hounds. All she thought of was how to go about it this time, and she had come up with an idea. She had some razor wire, plenty of it, or she could always go lethal chiropractor on him. Maybe quick and easy would work best, considering his money would buy him lots of protection. It was settled.

Arriving near the scene, the eel hound would begin to growl, it was her cue to stop. Scooter did raise the best, well trained transportation animals this side of the earth kingdom, didn't he? And he was a hoot to listen to. She had slowed down to a stop, tying the eel hound so they would spot it in their path. The logo of the ribbon on it's site screaming that it was scooters would be visibly vandalized for someone to go and look, though she had set a small net trap for whoever would come towards it. A 1 time trap for at most 3 men, a metal wire laced the trap with it's near indiscernible thin appeal hidden well in the grass. It kept the pegs in place that would release the tree from it's awkwardly bent position, but from where the tree had rested, it was hard to see it coming from Omashu.

Grell herself had sat in a tree up above, a bit ahead of the eel hound, waiting for the hound as a cue. When and if they would go near it was the question, but she would wait for that cue as she sat high up in the thick shrubberies. She preferred to work alone, for various reasons. Many reasons.

Tuezal Kai

Tuezal heard the knife cut through the air, and immediately turned into the direction it was thrown from. He immediately stopped the cart and scanned the trees with his eyes. The second guard wearing the Omashu-guard’s uniform started looking around frantically. He was clearly panicking, unlike the first guard, who seemed much more level headed and focused.

“Calm down!” Tuezal whispered to the nervous guard, “The attack missed by a mile and we have not seen or heard anything else…it’s not an assassin, and if it is one he is not very good...now go take a look.” The guard nodded and walked off into the woods. Tuezal knew that if a real assassin was hiding in there that the guard wouldn’t last too long. But he highly doubted that whoever threw the knife was a professional hitman, and so let the guard go take a look.

Tuezal turned the other guard; he had briefly spoken to him at the mansion, but didn’t have a lot of time. He remembered thinking it strange to see a male wearing a Kyoshi outfit; he had never seen a male Kyoshi warrior and didn’t know that they existed. But he wasn’t complaining, the Kyoshi were some of the best warriors in the world. “This is very strange,” he whispered to the Kyoshi Warrior, “I hope it’s not an elaborate trap.” He decided it wasn't necessary to tell him to keep his eyes peeled

“Zai!? Kai!? Why are we stopping? What’s going on?” Gao said as he started getting out of the carriage in a panic. Tuezal knew that he would be exposed if he climbed out of the carriage and looked at Zai with a worried face as Gao waddled up to Zai, waving his arms in the air and making a terrible racket. Tuezal hoped Zai would deal with this quickly.

“I think…I think I found something!”
the other guard said from the woods, “Hey lady?! What are you doing in there?” he asked as he spotted a young girl curled up in a tree overlooking the road. The guard then peered into the distance, “I…I think I see something…” he said as he started running up the road.

Tuezal held a hand out, “No you idiot!” he said in a loud whisper not to make too much noise. The guard heard him, but ignored his warnings and ran ahead. “Damn!” he said as he threw his arms down. He decided to return his attention to the girl. “Hey miss, get down there it’s dangerous around here now!” he said just loud enough for her to hear. He didn’t trust her, but couldn’t just leave her there and he would find out soon enough if she was a threat or not.

*******************************************************

The guard was quite a long way from the group now and could see an Eel Hound tied to a tree. He curiously moved closer when he suddenly heard a snapping sound coming from his feet…

Hakota-Zai

Being on the ground when the knife was thrown, Hakota spotted it as it hit in front of the ostrich-horse. The knife was thrown expertly; it flew straight and true, but the Kiyoshi saw something dark scurry off while the two animals in charge of mobilizing the cart reeled in fear. They were, after all, pampered creatures of the rich merchant; it was no knife that scared them, but perhaps a lizard or snake-- they didn't understand what a knife was like a war animal. The once-assassin spent just as much time on the fields of war as sneaking through halls and ought else as a dagger-for-hire, so it was no surprise that this was what he found strange of the situation. Wouldn't a true assassin think of this. But at present, the other two guards seemed prone to this, but Zai kept his individual eye out to the treetops as he prepared himself for a true assault.

"This is very strange, I hope it's not an elaborate trap," the more sensible of the two others said-- Kai, he was called. Zai was more in favor of this man, and new him to be of some respectable experience. This would make him surely more reliable than the nervous guard who presently searched for the knife-thrower. Aside, The Vagrant agreed with him.

"Agreed. I don't know if it is," he didn't. It all didn't really add up, but something else nagged him, almost as much as Gao while he practically shouted and approached Zai. Where he not Hakota's charge, he'd probably find himself a shade more pacified. But as it were, he had to keep to himself and convince Gao. "Unless you want your assailant's next knife to plant itself in your jugular," he said, pointing to the obvious knife even the oblivious man could see, "so lest you are inclined to choke to death on your own blood, sir, please get back in the carriage, where Kai can protect you from the next attack." Zai spoke quickly, and harshly despite whispering, which surprised the merchant given the Kiyoshi's usual reticence.

The 'assailant', however, was just a girl. So young, but children used as distractions -sometimes even as assassins themselves- were not unheard of. Still, though, the child seemed scared, as if having made a mistake. A child, too.

Hakota didn't like any of it. "If this is a trap, then the assassin wants us stopped, we have to move-" A snap in the direction the guard took off to, after a growl of a beast (some hound by Zai's reckon). The clumsy oaf of the guard (Who Zai now could assume had no real experience in these matters what-so-ever) fell for a classic trap, being brought up in a net hung from a tree. Neither Kai nor the Vagrant Mercenary were hired to defend this fool, but the much fatter fool who was presently climbing back into his seat after Zai's less-than-friendly advice.

Presently, though, Hakota prepared himself for combat. He drew both of his ceramic Kiyoshi fans from beneath his cloak, falling into a traditional defensive stance. Oddly, however, his legs fell into a position as if he were to bend water. "It's dangerous to proceed, turn the carriage around and protect Gao, Kai. I don't think there are many, but we can't risk it." There was no real way of knowing this, but were there a group attacking them, they'd already be surrounded. Even with what little skill Hakota had with seismic senses, he could feel no one running towards them. So unless there were dozens of men hidden in the trees, the danger didn't seem immediate, but it only took one Human to kill another.

Zehir

Trees were not the best hiding spots, and with the obvious trajectory of the knife, Zehir was quickly discovered. She sighed, but then another commotion down the road took the heat off of her. One of the guards, apparently not the smartest among them, ran down the road and into a trap. A net picked him up and carried him to the trees branches, holding him like a child in a cradle. Zehir took this as her opportunity to leave. But these people seemed very flustered, like they were carrying precious cargo that they needed to protect. Zehir had no idea that the fat man who was now flailing his arms was the said cargo, but she was willing to help these folks to satisfy her sense of justice.

The only thing Zehir could do to help was a simple bit of knife throwing. She threw one of the sharp weapons at the main rope in the net, and watched it fray about halfway off. With simple weight on his side, the less-stellar guard fell to the ground, the net was now ready to be open. She smiled, glad to prove she was better than the little mistake she had made earlier. She was content with remaining in her tree for now though.
