Personality: First of all: Rex is a right bastard. Due to his upbringing in a rich, grand Gaoling mansion Rex is extremely spoilt, demanding and downright rude to everyone, barring those of similar status to him. On top of that, his impressive skill as an Air Bender (and the constant admiration of anyone who sees his Air Bending) has made him extremely arrogant. Rex will not hesitate to talk down to anyone he deems below him.

Speaking of which, Rex has developed a view that people are on certain levels depending on their birth, wealth and skillset. Though the levels don’t need certain qualifications to reach, nor are they numbered. At the end of the day, they’re one of three things: below Rex, above him, or equal to him. Unsurprisingly, he considers the majority of folk beneath him, and if needed will treat them as such.

Of course, Rex has been taught the ways of the rich for years and will never be needlessly rude if he is aware of it. That being said, he’s hardly kind, as he just cannot bring himself to be kind to people that he believes wouldn’t be fit to clean the floor he stands on. He never asks someone to do something, it’s always an order. If he can’t get what’s needed then he’ll bribe, threaten, blackmail, the list goes on. There’s nothing that he won’t do to get what he wants. Which is why he’s known as ‘The Well Healed Snake’ or ‘The Snake’ by the few that know him that well, and dare to call him it.

What all of it fundamentally boils down to is a disregard for everyone around him. Rex views people as tools, even his family. His luxurious upbringing has led him to believe that he deserves everything, and as such he feels justified when he tries to achieve it.

Of course, Rex is only 13, and like most teenagers he is rather confused and deluded. The problem is that he doesn’t know that he’s either, and he doesn’t have anyone to tell him that. Nevertheless, it would take some convincing to change his opinion, as he’s held them for so long, and they’ve served him well.

He’s also quite lazy, something else which comes from the fact that everything was provided to him from a young age.

Abilities: Oddly enough, Rex is actually in pretty good shape, for someone that doesn’t do that much exercise. In the end, he just lucked out in genetics. He is, however an extremely good airbender, especially for someone of his age. He’s able to do many things, but particularly enjoys concentrated blasts of air, and his most concentrated blast is circular and around an inch in diameter. It’s delivered with such incredible power that it can pierce a human quite easily, something Rex is very proud of. Basically, he once saw a Fire Bender do lightning, and thought “I want to do that!” so, he imitated it as best as he could.

That’s one of the major reasons why Rex is such a brilliant bender is the fact that he’s able to imitate Air Bending maneuvers with an unreal amount of ease, and he’s able to come up with his own techniques just as easily. Air Bending just comes naturally to him, if he sees something, he is usually able to do it, providing that it’s around his skill level. This is because he has an excellent memory, another thing that he didn’t train for. This stems to other things, like martial arts. If he put his mind to it, Rex could become an excellent martial artist pretty quickly (a couple of years), he just won’t because it’s far too much work for him, and as such Rex isn’t proficient in any kind of hand to hand combat.

Another ability that he’s proud of is when he forces some of the air around a person to press against them, like a rope tied around something, or an anaconda when it suffocates it’s prey. That particular move was another thing that contributed to his nickname. Finally, Rex is able to use the same technique in different ways, like pulling something towards him, or creating a pathway made of air for another.

Appearance: Rex is pretty average all around, Thanks to his genes he’s quite skinny, though he couldn’t be called muscular by any standards. His face is sharp, and his eyes are rather thin. Another curious thing about his eyes is that the pupils of both are thin slits, strongly resembling that of a snake. (At this point, the nickname was inevitable) His hair is short, brown and ending firmly at the end of his ear. He possesses no fringe, but his hair does spike up a little over his forehead, because otherwise he’d just look boring.

The typical outfit of a male earthbender isn’t nearly as flexible as is needed for an airbender like Rex, or indeed any airbender. As such, he prefers something much less tight than the traditional type of clothing. Opting for a simple green shirt, the collar of which he usually leaves two buttons undone on. He also carries a tie with him, which he busts out for special occasions. Then, he just wears plain, dark yellow trousers complete with sandals. But what really sets him apart is the cape.

The cape is attached to the shoulders of his shirt, it’s green on the outside, orange on the inside and stretches to his ankles. The cape can only be described as beautiful, albeit a bit torn at the end.

Description: A simple glider given to Rex by his parents, not really useful for anything apart from flying.

History: Rex began his humble life in a giant mansion. What he was never informed of is that he wasn’t born in the master bedroom, he was born in a damp, dirty servant’s room. And though the lady of the house was certainly not there, the master was. The woman in giving birth was not in fact an Earth Kingdom citizen at all, merely a humble, ‘travelling’ Air Bender, the exact type of person Rex would come to despise. She was a beautiful, proud woman, and though she did not possess wealth in one sense, she was honest, sincere, and nothing like any Earth Kingdom women a self respecting gentleman was bound to come across. And yet somehow, the two crossed paths, and oddly enough, fell deeply, unstoppably in love.

Of course, the master of the house still wished to preserve his reputation, and his marriage so he elected to hire the young woman as a servant girl, and when they could they’d steal away into one of the unused bedrooms of the manor. The pair continued like this for months on end, until it was revealed she was pregnant. Of course, the master was prepared for this, it was an inevitability, yet he still had no idea what to do. The master already had sons and daughters of his own, would he be able to integrate this new child into the family?

The master and the lover could do nothing but wait, wait until their child was born, so they did. However, when he was born, there was not one, but two children! There were some respected families which had one bastard child, but two was unthinkable! Nevertheless, the master spilled the beans to his lady, who flat out refused to take both children, also insisting that the lover leaves the mansion immediately. The master pleaded and delayed for weeks, but eventually it became apparent that his lady wasn’t going to compromise, so his lover, and one of the children were expelled by a solemn master.

The child in the mansion was of course Rex, who, through an agreement made by his father and ‘mother’ was never informed of his tragic origins. Thus he ended up growing up believing that he was just like his brothers and sisters. He was told that his ability to Air Bend was because of a glitch in his DNA, much like his serpent-like eyes. As a young child, Rex was actually quite fun loving. He was always going on adventures, leaping about the mansion, usually with a cape he fashioned from curtain. It was at that young age that he learned some Air Bending besides just gusts of wind. It was the Earth Kingdom, so naturally there weren’t many Air Bending teachers around. But that didn’t matter, Rex didn’t need a teacher as he just started to do techniques without even thinking about it. He didn’t really know what he was doing, just that it was easy. And it was, for him, Air Bending was just another way of enjoying himself, it wasn’t anything that required thought, or analysis.

Years continued to pass, Rex grasped just who he was in the world by observing everyone else around him, just like every other child. Needless to say, what he saw changed him quite drastically. He was no longer the sweet, innocent kid he once was. He was much more sinister than that. Rex’s bending had come on leaps and bounds, he was excellent, and boy did he know it. Eventually, he grew tired of the mansion, and elected to travel the land alone. Of course, with a considerable amount of money that task would prove to be an easy one, probably.

Carolus Rex

On a boiling hot summer’s evening, a dusty,sticky, and generally very pissed off Carolus Rex, or ‘Rex’ entered a rowdy tavern, somewhere in the Si Wong Desert. The tavern wasn’t a friendly one, a group of likely lads had taken to punching each other in some sort of idiotic contest in the corner, and there was an actual fight kicking off outside. Rex, of course breezed past it with ease, not even stopping to stare at what was going on. “freaking peasants” he thought. Rex took a moment to observe everyone else in the tavern, before settling his thoughts. Obviously, he concluded that he was right all along. “They’re nothing but a bunch of foolish ingrates that couldn't tell hummus from baba ganoush if they were shown an instructional diagram on the subject.” Rex intended to spend as much time at the pub as was strictly necessary. That amount of time, by the way, was about three minutes. Rex wasted no time, strolling up to the bar, his cape flowing majestically in the wind. He propped himself up on a chair, taking care to move his cape out of the way of the chair, he couldn't be having the cape sullied. “Tap water, please.” he was even remembering his pleasantries, how nicer can you get? The bartender, who was a large, hairy man, walked over to him, slamming both his hands down right in front of Rex, and breathing in his face, leaving Rex positively dazed from the smell. “We don’t serve youngsters here, get out before you hurt yourself.” At this point, Rex was seething with anger. “We’ll see about that, you uneducated, untuned, ignorant plebeian.” The bartender barely had a moment to let out a rage filled “What?” before Rex raised his arm, sending a gigantic punch of air straight into the man’s torso. A moment later, the bartender crashed through one of the walls, landing flat on his back in the sand. Rex strolled out calmly, and looked around the back room. There were a few short, metal pipes spread about, they would do. He picked one up, and took a moment to look at it, all seemed well, it was a sturdy tool, and that’s what he needed. He strolled outside, taking a moment to enjoy the heat as the bartender rolled onto his front, propping himself up on his knees in an attempt to support himself. Rex chuckled, this was going to be good. “Let me give you some advice” he slammed the pipe onto the man’s spine, causing him to cry out in pain, and fall onto his stomach. “Next time someone of higher status than you asks for something,” he took a run up, kicking the man in his side. “you damn well get it.” after each word, he hit the man once. He walked back a bit, and then just as the man was struggling upwards, he took a run, ending in a kick to the face for the man in question. Rex was repulsed, that sure was a lot of blood, how uncouth of him to spill it. Rex somehow doubted that the man would be able to get him his water, and there was no time to wait. He’d overshot his optimum time by a few minutes. Rex bent over, looking directly at the man “you really do keep causing problems, don’t you?”
