Character Description Age: 22 Position: Collector Nation:
| Subject: Hocus Mon Dec 31, 2012 10:47 pm | |
| Full Name: Hocusikuzoranum (Goes by Hocus though) Gender: Male Age: 22? Maybe? *shrug* Element: Fire Birthplace: In the air on a hot air balloon. Position: Traveling Collector, Trader, and Wish hunter. Training: Beginner Firebender and a few other nifty skills.
Personality: Hocus is a flavor of the day sort of man. The only consistent thing about his personality is how inconsistent it is. He's usually full of some kind of mad raving though. Whether its a quiet sort of mystery or a mad sort of raging, there's a madness about him. Friends, acquaintances, people he happened to meet would usually describe him as interesting.
The only reason Hocus probably meets people and sometimes keeps them around is because of his promises. He's liable to make promises for certain mystical gifts or solutions to problems and the air of madness around him makes people often believe him. And he does have a decent track record of pulling through.
Abilities: Firebending (Beginner): Hocus can only produce enough flame to relight his hot air balloon's flames. Whenever the fire's go out, he's able to produce the necessary fire to relight the methane. He can also do dazzles of light in order to add to his magical quality. Besides that, Hocus is a shameful firebender as he's never had any training. Hocus also gives off a constant heat which makes the air around him wavy and distorted.
Navigation (Master): Hocus is incredible at traveling the sky. With his mystical compass, he can find places, people, and things that are usually off the map. He can also interpret all kinds of navigational aides like instructions, riddles, and treasure maps, although his compass usually makes these unnecessary.
Tinkering (Master): Hocus is very good at taking things apart, putting them back together, and applying them to other things. He often uses this to figure out what makes objects tick and how to recreate copies of them. This doesn't usually help with the more magical items though.
Appearance: Height: 6'2" Weight: 140 (This is, in fact, underweight.) Eyes: Unseen. Probably red from hysteria and lack of sleep. Hair: Black and messy. Skin: White, similar to rice paper.
When describing a stick, one could use Hocus as an adjective. His long body looks even longer thanks to his seeming inablity to gain weight. The unhealthy habit of only sleeping when passed out seems to have not only made Hocus look incredibly crazy, but also incredibly thin. He just doesn't keep any of the food he eats when in his hyper-stupor. Despite the lack of sleep, Hocus never seems tired, he's always got that mad, raving air about him. The air around him almost seems to be wavy with hysteria (even though it's just a strange natural heat that Hocus gives off). While Hocus is sure to look horribly tired and probably has red, bloody eyes, he always has it covered with a white mask. The mask has only one feature, the left eye has a black swirl going around it, but besides that there are no other features, not even a nose, but it does have two slits for Hocus to see out of. This causes his voice to be muffled at all times. The mask is slightly offset to make room for his nose, but even from the side or behind, there is nothing visible of his face. Hocus' messy black hair jets down to about a third of the mask, and shoots forward mostly. The back of his hair looks pretty clean in comparison to the spiky, wavy front. He's usually wearing a black suit with purple pinstripes. It's too short in length and stops at about the midpoint of his forearm and shins, but it seems to be a perfect fit for his weight. He also wears white gloves and shiny black shoes. A carnation of sorts is usually pinned to his shirt, but it's also usually half dead.
Weaponry & Other Gear:
When it comes to gear, Hocus is the king. His humongous collection holds plenty of everyday objects and right now holds five strange, magical objects.
Item Name The Compass of Finding the Things I Need Materials: It's all shiny and gold, it's got an ivory back, it's got gold needles and symbols and such. Description: The Compass of Finding the Things I Need is an incredibly strange object shrouded in a certain amount of spiritual power. In the wrong hands it could used to obtain items of power and could cause the end of the world due to its ability to find anything. In the hands of Hocus, it's pretty useless. His madness seems to make it so he only looks for silly things, like magical spoons or armoires. Still, he's willing to look for objects that others want if they have something he wants. So someone could trade him a magical spoon for the end of the world, I suppose. No biggie. Of course, there has to be a very specific object that is needed, or the compass will spin in a circle, unsure of which object to find. Unique objects only.
Item Name Vanity Mirror Materials: Glass and Brass Description: This glass mirror with a brass handle and backing shows your face as it could ideally look. It basically shows you on a perfect day. Hocus fondly looks at it, mask off, from time to time. He's still unhappy with the image. You can't make horror look too pretty I guess.
Item Name Prison Locket Materials: Onyx and Obsidian. Silver chain. Description: A rough obsidian heart with an onyx gem in the middle opens up to reveal...nothing. However, it does have the potential to hold a soul. Simply put a drop of a person's blood inside, and you can hold them there until the locket is opened again. A strange side-effect, however. The person who uses the locket must wear it all times or it will open, and he will also have a split personality. The locket will make it so the person has two spirits which are constantly switching back and forth. (I figured this could make for silly RPs.)
Item Name The Paint Bucket of, "What if this was this color instead of that color, hmm?" Materials: Steel bucket and magical paint Description: Has an infinite amount of paint that changes at the will of the owner. Cannot be used to color living things, for some reason.
Item Name Photo Book of Untainted Memory Materials: Plastic, Magic. Description: An ordinary plastic photo album with windows into memories inside. Simply hop in and you can access someone's past. Most of them are Hocus' memories, but some are his ancestors. The memory is always black and white, with an eerie feeling, and sometimes has strange visual changes depending on what the person perceived. For instance, enemies might have melting faces or steam coming off them, friends might have glowing auras or kittens surrounding them. Stuff like that.
Item Name Hot Air Balloon Materials: Wood and a light-weight fabric. Description: The hot air balloon actually has three balloons. One right in the middle is much larger than the other two. The other ones are on the left and right, the right one with a more oval shape than a circle. The basket has two stories and an astounding amount of items stored in it. In fact, the balloon must hold some kind of mysticism in order to stay afloat with so many things on it. Hocus' home.
History: Hocus has an incredibly strange history. His ancestor's had apparently been dealers with people and spirits since the beginning of time, and while they used to have an innate ability to fly around, it was lost to genetic dilution. So they had to settle with a hot air balloon. With a strangely mixed background of benders, the kind of bending you get is usually random and unguessable. His grandparents were both airbenders, but his parents were an earth and water bender, mother being the first and father being the second. Of course, the mother was the one who came from the family's long line, his father had just come along for the ride. She gave birth to him right there on the balloon, and he didn't go on land until he was around two months old. She taught Hocus everything she knew, training him daily in navigation with maps, the strange compass that they'd inherited, and how to navigate the people they met as well. They lived by trade, always able to get what people wanted due to their mystical compass. Thanks to getting exactly what someone wanted, they usually could get a lot more for it than they could with any other substitute. They all led a happy life, if a bit strange.
His mother told him stories of their ancestors and their interactions with the spirit of good fortune. Long ago, their first mother, Hazu, met a dragon in the forest. This was a dragon of legend, the dragon of fortune. He had silver skin, golden eyes, and ruby horns. Instead of fire, he breathed in fortune, and anyone he whispered to was said to get what they had always desired. But Hazu was still young, and did not particularly want anything. She thought up all the possibilities before she approached the spirit of fortune, deciding that there were just too many things in the world, she could not decide on one. So the dragon gave her all of them, so to speak. Hazu was granted the Compass, and it span around maddeningly. Their First Mother spent years trying to figure out how it worked until one day her father became deathly ill. Some kind of disease had woven its way into him and he became more and more paralyzed by the day. She wanted with all her heart to heal him, but she was told there was no medicine for his sort of sick. But she noticed, at night when she looked at her gift of Fortune, that the needle had stopped. It pointed to the deadly valley in the south-east. She left in the night so no one questioned her, and followed that needle until she was stopped at a horrible looking mushroom. Without second guessing herself, she cut off a piece of the large, purple and green thing, and brought it back to her dad. He was in some kind of coma now, and the village healer said it was too late now, but Hazu force-fed him that mushroom. He recovered within days, and Hazu suddenly became incredibly popular. She told everyone her story without realizing the consequences. Everyone wanted her to give them what they wanted, and she soon became disenchanted with the greed of everyone around her.
So she took the compass and led herself to everything she needed to live up in the air for the rest of her life. She was led back to the Spirit of Fortune who let her onto his back and flew away with her into the sky. Over time she attained items that she'd wanted on a whim, because Fortune granted it to her immediately. She even gave herself the power to fly one day, completely on accident. Hazu soon became known as a spirit herself, a story of long ago that was surely a myth. But she bore children who also had fortune on their side, one of whom was given the compass for himself before Hazu died. And the legend continued on all the way up to Hocus.
One day his parents fell. Right out of the balloon. They'd flown right into a storm, because the compass said they'd find a rare bird right over the cloud. Apparently a girl was only willing to part with her family's ancient ring if she got a cool bird. After some turbulence, Hocus' father fell right out of the basket, and his mother jumped after him. They'd never been very good at bending, so they hurtled right to the ground. Hocus' mother tried to bend the ground to soften their blow, but it did absolutely no good. Hocus didn't jump after them, but everyday he wished he had. He clawed at his face out of horror and fear, and the scars never healed too well. Red divots and canyons cross his face horizontally and diagonally at almost every point.
His first wish was to forget, and the compass led him to some sort of amnesia and hysteria. At least, Hocus believed it led him to that, but really his mind just collapsed into a level of insanity where he had no recollection of his past or the day before. He always looks in the mirror, hoping to remember what happened to him, and who he is, but his mind is locked. He still remembers skills he's learned, but no memories of how he learned them or why. He now follows the whims of his madness, searching for things that have little use. He has yet to search for a way to get his memory back, even though it's literally in a photo album in a basket in the corner next to a purple vase on the bottom story.
**OPTIONAL** Sample RP: It's Loki.
Character Box: So I don't need to do this.
And I know this character is absolutely nuts, and kind of weird, and kind of silly, but...it should be fun right? | |

| And since this is a beginner-tier character, I don't think I need a unanimous vote, so that should be good. | |
