The Thread in which Akhet and Zakura Meet Tyrus

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Akhet and Zaura's trip to the Northern Water Tribe was not without event. while the chiefs of both tribes had recently disappeared, there was thankfully no succession crisis, and the chiefs were replaced as they always were. Zakura wondered if her aunt Zulera had been behind it, but she wasn't sure, nor was she about to go on a hunt for clues. She did want to meet this new chief though, and learn a bit about him. we he anything like the others? was he about to "disappear" somehow too? She wanted to bring her father Akhet along, but the lazy bum had had a late night the last night, and so he was sleeping in. Zak left a note that told him where she was going should he wake up, and then went on her way. after all, while she was almost an adult, she was still only 17 years old, and she also liked the company of her father. whatever the case, now she was on her way to the Chief's Palace just to get to know the guy. Because why not? When all was said and done, Zakura was in front of him, and greeted him respectfully. "Good afternoon, Chief Tyrus, my name's Zakura Zulera Tallarico." This would be what she started with, and she would cut to the business in just a moment. formalities were always the way to start with world leaders--always. xP

	Tyrus was beginning to regret taking this position. There seemed to be a lot of waiting around and very little action. Lara had strictly forbidden him from leaving the throne room for at least two hours, so that he could be seen by the public. Tyrus had no idea why he continued to listen to her, after all he was the chief, but he could never think a witty response until Lara had already left. And he didn't want to be violent with her, she was one of the few people who were constantly in and around the palace that he didn't despise. With his hand on his cheek, Tyrus heavily dealt with any complaints that came up. After a particularly bitter man complained about how competitive prices on fish were becoming left, Tyrus was pretty ready to call it a day. However, a woman walked in just before he got up and introduced herself. "Good afternoon, Chief Tyrus, my name's Zakura Zulera Tallarico." Tyrus raised his eyebrows at the name. "Are you related to the avatar?" he asked. His voice carried around the room and echoed a few times. Tyrus hadn't yelled, his voice was simply booming no matter what volume he tried to place it at. Tyrus had yet to meet the avatar in person, and he didn't always hear good things about her, but it was a name he knew and a famous one at that. He rubbed his scruff in wonder, awaiting the answer.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Zakura was admittedly a bit surprised at hearing how booming Tyrus' voice was, but it didn't seem like an angry voice. some people just had loud voices that carried like that. however, she kept her composure and grinned politely. there was definitely a familiarness to her smirk, and those eyes were definitely Tallarico eyes--that unique electric blue color joined with the dark skin and the wide grin... this was definitely a Zulera relative. "I am, actually." she replied in honesty, "she's my aunt. Not exactly someone I'd call a supreme role model, but family is family, and I've got my respect for her and the likes. why do you ask, out of curiosity, if it's not out of place for me to inquire?" Learning why people wished to know things was an interesting aspect of curiosity. This was all that Zakura was doing.

	The young lady explained that she was Zulera's niece and quickly asked why Tyrus wished to know. He pondered the question for a second. "The avatar is an important figure in our world, and as a world leader I must acknowledge her power and extend that grace to her family." The statement was a bit more flowery that Tyrus had anticipated, but he stood by it. He looked down at the young woman and asked, "So. Is there a reason for you being here?" This question came off a bit curt, the antithesis to his prior statement, but Tyrus held to no regret when it came to his words and did not apologize.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Zakura nodded softly. "alrighty then... I was just curious myself. Thank you for your blessing either way, Chief Tyrus." She was cutely honest the same way Zulera was much of the time, and while she had a similar smile to that part of her family, Zakura's looked much less eerie. "I admit that there is no formal reason for my presence here, Chief," she nodded to answer his question, "I honestly just wanted to meet you... get to know you a bit, perhaps? I've heard things about you... awesome things... and awesome friends are well... awesome." she laughed.

	Tyrus' eyebrows rose in amusement as Zakura explained how she intended to befriend him while she complimented him on his awesomeness. She then mentioned how awesome friends are awesome. Well Tyrus simply could not argue with that logic. He even laughed a little, baring his teeth in a friendly smile. "Of course." he said in response. He noticed that no citizens were standing behind Zakura, which meant Tyrus could technically leave when he was done with her. "Well Zakura, I rarely get free-time, but when I have it, I go hunting. Would you like to come?" he asked, already standing up and walking to his weapons room.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Zakura gave her cute little Zulera-esque smile when she saw Tyrus'. She was glad they were getting along so well. When presented with the question, she almost jumped up with excitement. "seriously? of course!" she smiled, "I'd love to!" Not any type of flattery here--just honest excitement from a girl who had gone on many hunting excursions with her father back in the South. She followed him to his weapons room. "I... erm... mind if I borrow a spear?" she asked, grinning innocently. She had a few back at the place she was staying, but most of her favorite weapons were on the opposite side of the world, and even the hut she was staying at was a ways away, making it mighty inconvenient for her to get her own. Neverhteless, that was still possible.

	Tyrus perused his vast store of weapons, wondering what he would use today. "I...erm...mind if I borrow a spear?" Zakura asked. "Yeah, take your pick." he said. There was a whole wall dedicated to spears, and it was highly likely Zakura would find one that was of the correct length and material for what she was used to. Tyrus picked up one of the large ones with a sharp metal tip that had a heavy weight to it. He liked seeing how far he could throw the bulky thing. He waited for Zakura to pick, and then they'd be off to hunting anything that moves. Except for other humans, of course.

Jīngshén	“Why was I not informed until now?” Jīngshén asked himself. The chief had company and his security was the last to know? Someone had dropped the ball here. He’d have to talk to the guards about this later. As he approached a wall of ice he slid it into the ground, and walked through the door, then lifted it back up. Now by the Chief’s side he studied his guest. She was not armed so at least he did not have to request her to set them aside while in this neutral area. They did not have that rule before but after the numerous assassinations, it was better safe than sorry. You could not get rid of bending however. “Sorry I am late Chief.” Jīngshén said with his raspy, steely voice.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	"Thanks!" Zakura smiled, politely nodding. she was not a suck-up, but she was friendly and knew enough of how to be respectful, especially when someone shared with her. after testing and taking a few spears, she found one that she liked that she took with her. she turned to Tyrus once again, knowing that if she was a little older, that she would have probably swooned over his manliness already. Still... her little 17-year-old self could feel it, despite him being nearly twice her age. "I'm ready when you are then. let's go!" Being from the south, she knew that Tyrus would know the surroundings much better than she would, and so she would follow him. Once they got to the hunting grounds, then she would show off her skills.

	Tyrus was startled when his "bodyguard", Jingshen, opened a wall behind him and walked in. He quickly told the chief that he was sorry he was late. Tyrus never knew how to feel about having a bodyguard. Sure, it was a smart precaution, assassination had become commonplace in the Water Tribe royal family, but Tyrus felt he was made of tougher stuff than his predecessors. "Next time you enter a room full of sharp weapons, I advise you do it in a way that won't scare the people inside." Tyrus said with a grin. "We're about to go hunting. You may join us if our guest does not mind." he said, looking at Zakura for an answer. "Either way, the fastest way to the arctic wilderness is through here." A trap door in the weapons room led into an underground tunnel. The tunnel would put them behind the palace, which was an uninhabited wasteland full of the things tribesmen liked to hunt. Tyrus grabbed a torch off the weapon's room wall, kicked the door open and, without hesitating, climbed a ladder down into the tunnel. He'd actually built it himself, wrestling with the ice in order to make a way out of the palace. He'd noticed that every time he'd tried to go hunting, he'd have to walk through the palace, and it was highly likely someone would stop him and redirect him to some task that did not involve killing things. This tunnel was made to avoid this problem, and he was pretty happy with his idea.

Jīngshén	He gave a silent nod to Tyrus and turned to Zakura. “Greetings ma'am. A pleasure to meet you I’m sure.” He said, his gravel-voice muffled by his scarf. His eyes were colder than the arctic around them, gazing into her, assessing her. She seemed honest enough, meaning he should take extra care that Tyrus was safe. Those were the type to look out for the most. But of course, he would not judge, only observe. It had been ages since Jīngshén had gone hunting. Well it had been a while since he had hunted animals at least. He had not brought a spear, but he would not need one to make a kill. Although Tyrus made the entrance way to get away from people who’d bother him, he appreciated it. It made his job easier. He understood Tyrus was a very proud man and that having him around was not always thrilling, but at least he was reasonable where it counted. He followed behind the two, not wanting to bother their conversations and to better look out for trouble. The hunting areas were usually fairly open, to a water bender anyways, so he did not have to cover much ground. They were either behind a spire of ice, which was predictable enough, or possibly underneath the ice, which was less likely. Still, he paid close attention to the ice, making sure any cracks in the surface were natural.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	One thing that Zakura admired about Tyrus besides his manliness was that he was tougher than his predecessors. She knew that her family (to be more precise, her Aunty Zulera) had played a major role in the dosposal of at least 3 previous chiefs. however, it seemed that she liked Tyrus enough that she was not going to try anything. If nothing else, here was her niece about to go hunting with him. she glanced briefly at his bodyguard, nodding respectfully, but then turned back to Tyrus. "Alright then." she smirked confidently, "lead on!" this was certainly not her first time hunting, but this was definitely her first hunt with someone so awesome and manly as Northern Chief Tyrus. this would be interesting, for certain.

	The tunnel wasn't terribly long, but the walk still took maybe five minutes. The palace was huge and circumventing it like this did not shorten the distance. The icy floor crunched as Tyrus led the way with torch and spear. The end of the tunnel held another ladder and a trap door. Putting the torch in a sconce, Tyrus climbed the ladder with the spear in his mouth. It was incredibly heavy, but Tyrus had some tough teeth. The trapdoor simply needed to be pushed on to open, but when Tyrus reach out with his left hand, it was stuck. He tried using his other hand, but something was definitely on top of the trapdoor. "Look out," he said through clenched teeth as he climbed back down the ladder, warning the other two about his descent. Once at the bottom, with his feet sturdily on the ground, he pulled two dense blocks of ice out of the wall. He shot them up at the trap door, but they too got stuck. Tyrus continued pushing on the block with blocks, increasing his power steadily. Finally, with a loud grunt and a peak in power, the trapdoor flew open, and an incredibly loud, "MOOOOWWWW" was heard. Looking up through the now open door, Tyrus could see that he'd shot an ox-goat into the air, and it landed right next to the trap door. It lay there in a bloody mass. Tyrus climbed up the ladder and looked around to see an entire herd of Ox-Goats. They were all staring with wide eyes. Finally one of them began running away, and the rest followed suit. Not missing a beat, Tyrus threw his spear and managed to throw the weapon into one ox-goat, out the other side, and into another one. They had been running close to each other, and the spear held them together like a kebab. Tyrus gave a triumphant yell as he walked over to his kills. The herd continued running away, but once they finally stopped, Tyrus could still see them on the horizon. It wouldn't be hard to go after them again. "A good day for a hunt." he said.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Zakura was excited but patient. she was fine with the walk, and had more than enough stamina for it. it didn't faze her even the slightest. she waited for Tyrus to ascend the ladder and open what she assumed was a trapdoor at the top, but for some reason it didn't budge. she was thinking about asking what might have happened, but figured they would learn once it was opened. Zak couldn't help but smile admiringly at how manly Tyrus was when he climbed with his heavy spear in his mouth. she might contemplate trying that one day. after several minutes the trapdoor came open with a large "MMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" an ascension of a ladder later, and they were in a herd of Ox-goats. this was the jackpot. Zak was a kid with swift reflexes, a good throwing arm, and a nice sense of aim and timing. she launched her spear and skewered one right in the vitals. it had been a little skill, but admittedly mostly luck. "WOOOO!" She chanted, "a good day for a hunt indeed!"

Jīngshén	As he saw the great animal fly in the sky, he looked up for a moment then looked forwards again. Who would have thought that would happen again? He wondered if he’d count that as one of his kills or not. He wondered if he even paid any attention to it. Tyrus’ strength was amazing as always, and his aim was good as well. Two in one blow was not common for anyone. Jīngshén could do that as well, but he had to be crafty about it, he could not brute force it. He had to line up the shot for the trajectory of multiple projectiles. It was tougher but impressive when it worked. The woman was a decent hunter it seemed. Good aim at least. Crouching down, Jīngshén scooped up flakes of snow and ice in his arms. With a swift movement he outstretched his arms and the snow was launched outwards, they froze into thick needles flying towards the jugulars of two ox-goats, killing them instantly. Quietly he muttered “Never got around to getting a spear…sorry.”

	Tyrus was grinning. Five ox-goats was already too much to carry back to the palace, even for Tyrus, but that wasn't the point of this hunt. The air was alive with an intense primal energy, and Tyrus was ready to kill a few more animals simply for the excitement that paired with it. The herd had run far off, but he wasn't worried about that. He wanted to go after some larger game. "Are you two ready for a bigger challenge? Let's see if we can nab a mammoth seal." Honestly it wouldn't be that tough of an opponent, but a mammoth seal would be a hell of a lot of fun to take down. The black, leathery beast had two gargantuan tusks and an ugly trunk, but had a body like any other walrus. It was also the size of a small house. Tyrus happened to know where to find one or maybe two, as he knew the area quite well, and he began heading in that direction. While they walked the group would have some time to talk.

Zakura Zulera Tallarico	Zak was rather fearless on this excursion, and the amount of kills they had scored made her fairly confident that they were going to have a good outing. it really got the blood pumping, and there were few things in life that Zakura did not appreciate more than a good thrill. Animals had rights... rights to be tasty. This was the Water Tribe, and that was just how they rolled. when Chief Tyrus proposed that they nab a mammoth seal. Zakura's shimmering eyes lit up. "I'm so game!" she rubbed her hands together excitedly, almost bobbing up and down on her heels. she followed Tyrus as they began the walk. during this time, she couldn't help but ask a question. "have you killed 'em before?" she asked curiously. "and if you have... how many?" it was curious talk, but Zak was still young and had many more hunts to go on in her life. she figured she'd pick up a few tips from the older, more experienced fellows while she had the chance, as she was not only the only girl of the party, but also easily the youngest.
