Full Name: Korra Tonraizi

Age: 18
Element: Water
Birthplace: Southern Water Tribe
Position: None
Training:
Waterbending: Expert Level
Healing: Intermediate Level
Mechanics & Engineering: Expert Level
Resistance to Drugs/Toxins: Master Level
Personality: (517/210)
Korra is an erratic and difficult to predict young woman. On one hand, she has a cheerful demeanor and enjoys laughing and playing as much as anyone else, but on the other hand, she is very reserved in large groups of people she does not know. The larger and louder they are, the more finicky and jumpy she gets. Korra is also very afraid of masks, haze, and explosives. While it might seem like a random combination to some, there is actually a very logical story behind why she is affected that way.
In fine, Korra suffers from chronic Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and it is much more severe than even she is willing to let on. She is haunted by intrusive memories of the events that shaped her life in such a dark and malicious way, and she sometimes finds herself reliving it. Nightmares started as early as 15, and they persist to this day. Thus, because of the extreme emotional distress that certain things cause her, Korra puts an active effort into trying to avoid anything that reminds her of her past horrors.
Korra's emotions fluctuate greatly. On better days, she can sometimes smile and seem almost normal, but on her worse days, she drops into a very negative mood and nearly hits a phase of depression, unable to turn her emotions around without rest or therapy. Occasionally she will evaluate herself, while losing interest in everything she is good at, telling herself that she is a hopeless wreck. Korra's self-confidence is naturally very low, and apart from her surrogate family, Korra has nearly no friends because of her inability to form good relationships with people willing to put up with her despite her problems.
Of course, sadness can lead to anger, and sometimes when Korra cannot do something for herself (especially when it involves her mental stability) she will lash out or turn aggressive. Other times, she simply feels guilty or ashamed of using her family or friends as a crutch while giving nothing in return. Times like this make her feel like a parasite, which does little to help her sense of self-worth. Similarly, she is still afraid that such events could happen again at any time, and so she is always on her guard, and jumps at the slightest noise. As such, she has trouble concentrating sometimes, and often has trouble sleeping.
On a more positive note, however, is that on her "good days", she is playful and friendly (and sometimes even coy). She has a fondness of building and drawing things, which she also uses as a type of art therapy. Ultimately, she is mostly just misunderstood, and difficult to read because of her near-crippling PTSD. However, those who have the patience with her usually end up meeting a very pleasant young lady.
As a waterbender from some very solid Water Tribe stock, Korra tries to practice some of her tribe's traditions or rituals when she can, particularly when she pays homage to her deceased parents. Similarly, she has started tattooing herself in a few places with designs from her tribe.
Abilities: (414/210)
Korra possesses an interesting myriad of abilities. On a basic level, she is a competent healer and a very skilled and powerful waterbender due to the various substances that were forced into her body by her tormentor, Daikon. Her healing skills are primarily for physical injuries, dealing with cuts, scrapes, burns, and other such things. She has also used these talents to keep herself well-groomed, and so while she is very toned and athletic, she also still maintains very soft, smooth skin.
Perhaps originally as art therapy, Korra is a rather talented artist and designer, able to sketch and create very elaborate drawings and designs when she is alone or needs to express herself somehow. Similarly, she likes to design and build things, even machines. She is rather skilled at these endeavors, and shows very promising potential.
On the other hand, the harmful substances that were forced into her body have also given Korra a somewhat unique ability. She is virtually immune to poisons, including the effect of most common drugs and even alcohol. Thus, she can drink booze as if it were water, with only the strongest of substances making her drunk. The odds of her ever passing out from drinking too much are virtually zero. As such, she has won numerous drinking games in her life because of this.
She is also very physically robust due to her lifestyle, and because of who had raised her. Aveline had ensured that Korra would know how to protect herself and her property. She is confident at defending herself, and while physical strength is one aspect of it, she is also very cunning, having become quite aware of tricks that such people use, and thus how to avoid them. Her own trials and paranoia in that field have paid off. She is very alert and has lightning-swift reflexes and reaction times, which can make her a formidable opponent.
Another particularly strong point for Korra is that she has a near photographic memory. She never forgets a voice, or a face. The drawback is that this was caused by the madman who screwed up her life, and so she also always remembers his face, as well as many of his vile deeds done to her, which in turn fuels her post-trauma. Thus, ironically, Korra still has a bit of trouble in school despite this gift.
Korra is supposedly also pretty good in bed, but that's a mystery she's not going to be too open about revealing.
Appearance: (408/210)
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 160 lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Dark Brown
Skin: Brown
Korra is a solidly-built young woman with very obvious Water Tribe stock, considering her rugged good looks, her dark skin, dark brown hair, and blue eyes. She appears to be as ordinary and unassuming as any other Water Tribe girl her age from a glance, and her clothing shows that as well, given that she normally wears blues and browns of her tribe unless she's wearing her uniform from school or something.
Her hair drops to her mid-back, and is thick and only slightly wavy. She has long bangs that can sometimes drop into her face, although she prefers to brush them to the sides, and she normally leaves her hair down and untamed. Every now and again she puts some tribal beads into it, particularly when she's practicing some tradition of her culture or from her family. Despite her place of residence now, Korra is still very Water Tribe at heart. Because of this, she has a few small tribal markings near the backs of her shoulders. She is contemplating expanding them, although also seems fairly content with her natural skin.
Given her physically robust lifestyle, Korra's arms and legs are toned and beefy. She usually wears long sleeves and pants (again, sans her uniform or formal attire) and so the size of her limbs and muscles is often underestimated. She has considerable upper body strength as well, even to outdoing some men. She is not normally one to boast about this, although she does uphold her rigorous lifestyle in order to preserve this fitness.
Korra is also an intermediate healer, and as such, not only takes good care of her body, but also her skin and hair as well. Thus, while her hair is thick, it is very soft, and while she is used to a rough-and-tumble lifestyle, she uses herbs and water to keep her skin rather delightfully smooth. She has large hands and feet, and generally covers up most of her body. However, she is not at all ashamed of it, and so if she's ever seen without clothes on, she is utterly unfazed.
Despite how unassuming she might appear, Korra's eyes and face tell so much about what she has been through. There is a certain aura to her, and a worn-out look in her eyes that subtly imply that this young woman has seen and been through horrors that would have destroyed most men or women. the straightforward, neutral expression she wears is almost unsettling, and provides only a small window into the world of her PTSD.

History: (608/520)
Korra's life began fairly normally, and the first 8½ years of her life were similar. Her family was a couple of Water Tribe immigrants who had settled in Gaoling a few years back. She was a cheerful child, always eager for exploration or other curiosities.
The exact circumstances of her parents' deaths are still unknown today, other than the name of the culprit--a madman named Daikon. He spared Korra herself, either from not noticing, or perhaps forcing her to watch. There was no really telling, and Korra today certainly does not wish to ever speak of such traumatizing events. But, this was just the beginning of her horror story. Korra was rescued by a woman named Aveline Zianja Tosari, who took her in, in an attempt to shelter her from the monster that Daikon was.
It is still unclear if Aveline is indirectly responsible for the horrors the girl suffered after this, or if she saved Korra from a truly grizzlier fate. Whatever the case, Aveline adopted Korra as basically her own daughter, and through this, Daikon tried to get at Aveline by tormenting Korra. as a child, these were simpler things, like sneaking into her room or frightening her in one way or another, but one day, he took it all the way, and flat-out kidnapped the youngster, baiting Aveline. A large-scale fight took place, which resulted in Daikon's death. All was well in the world, and although Korra would still be a bit shaken for more of her childhood years, everything was okay now, because the madman had been slain, and so his threat had gone with him...
...or so everyone thought.
A few years passed, and when Korra turned 15, Daikon returned into her life. It started with voices and whispers, and at first Korra thought that she was just going insane, and so she did not tell anyone fro a while, not wanting to come off as weak or crazy. However, this just made things worse. as Korra grew, she found herself struggling in school, often times because she'd find herself passed out in some alleyway or something. This confused her to an extent, for it wasn't like she was drinking or anything.
...except that in a way, she was. Daikon was drugging her, both directly and indirectly, and manipulating her so gradually that by the time she was 17 she was under his spell, so to speak, and he manipulated her into doing many great and terrible things that no teenager should have to suffer through. She was abused, violated, tortured, manipulated, and molded by this monster until she had become him.
Daikon was back on the loose, and as such, a crime wave went through the city. "Daikon" was only fully apprehended after Queen Meili and Firelord Tarek got involved, where they managed to knock him cold. However, what they discovered when Tarek removed the mask was rather horrifying.
Instead of revealing a madman, it revealed an unconscious teenaged girl.
Naturally, when Korra learned that she was responsible for some of these heinous crimes, she was horrified and terrified, both at what she had done, and at the fact that she had been so horrifyingly manipulated.
Needless to say, all of these ordeals, from the time she was 9 to the time she was 18, and was finally truly liberated from Daikon's curse (AKA Daikon being stopped, for he was very real), she was a shattered remnant of what she once was, and was a mentally unstable young girl suffering from severe and chronic Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Her road to recovery is long and hard, and is only just barely beginning...
Character Box (Required):
Korra Tonraizi
| The funny thing about this character is that she originally started out as this nameless kid for the sake of Aveline's plot. However, during that time she sort of developed a personality and story of her own, and so here she is. We had just been tentatively calling her Korra for the longest time, and by the time we finally decided to make this character a reality, the name stuck.
