  • Body Type: Lean

If it all comes down to stereotypes, Yoki looks more like a regent from the fire nation rather than a healer from the southern water tribe. If it weren’t for her interesting roots, one could possibly assume that she was a mutation. In fact, that lie is a simpler explanation than the history of her entire being. “Don’t let them get to you,” her mother would say. “You’re better than that.

She was teased for having lighter skin as a child. She was also pushed around, probably cause she lacked the skill and the physique to defend herself. Even as a child she was very fragile looking, eventually her scrawniness developed into a beautiful sylphlike woman. Her mother often compared her to looking like a water spirit, or a ghost because of her delicate appeal and pale skin.

Even so, she had water-nation roots and besides the significantly lighter skin, she had a head full of thick dark hair that extended past her waist. Her hair’s texture was very soft and easy to run one’s fingers through. It blew gently in the wind, and she often tied it up because it got in the way. She never had the heart to cut it though. She had a fringe that framed her face and she often hid behind her hair.

Her mother told her to stop hiding her pretty face, but perhaps if she looked like everyone else, she wouldn’t keep hiding it. Her features are soft. She had pinkish lips that were uneven: her top lip was thin while her bottom lip was plump. Her cheeks were rosy red and deepened in color whenever she was embarrassed. Her nose sat in the middle of her face like a button. However despite all these soft features her eyes were striking pools of ice-blue that drew people in. Her eyes were large and slightly-slanted.  She had her mother’s eyes, and her mother’s mother, and the mother before that. They were probably her favorite thing about her. They were framed by dark thick lashes.

As for clothing, Yoki usually stayed bundled up beneath layers of robes. She wore the traditional water-nation blue, yet opted for lighter shades. Her voice is soft, and when she walks she almost appears to be floating.
Character Personality:
Despite the cool demeanor, Yoki is actually quite warm as a person. However, this side of her doesn’t show immediately as she takes a while to warm up or for people to get to know her better. She is an introvert, and although it doesn’t seem like she makes much effort to get to know other people better, she does try to make friends and it is actually quite easy to get to know her.

She is extremely empathetic and can easily identify the emotion’s of people. She is considered to be very kind and is a bit compliant, possibly as a result of being bullied. She tries her best to make everyone happy, even if it meant compromising her own happiness. To some, Yoki’s compassion can be seen as noble; to other’s Yoki may seem weak-willed, and stupid.

Besides that, she is actually a very bright person. She enjoys learning and putting the things she knows to good use. She is a healer at heart and by profession and helps her mother out. Because she is an only child and her mother is getting old, she tries her best to act like adult, making her very mature for her age. However, because of this, people don’t think she knows how to lighten up.

She is a gentle soul and is very demure. She speaks softly and would rather be a listener instead of a speaker. She isn’t known for dressing provocatively and she definitely isn’t the type of woman to try to flirt with other guys. However, it is assumed that she falls very quickly, yet tries not to show it. She hopes to marry a good man who can take care of her and help her raise a family.

She has her insecurities and doesn’t see herself as attractive or good-looking. Because of this, she focuses on her abilities and profession, because she knows that appearance isn’t the most important thing in life.

She lives a very organized lifestyle and doesn’t like to see things out of place.

Likes: Cold-sunny days, extreme flavors, poetry, hollies, starry skies, snow-castles
Dislikes: Name-calling, liars, strong scents, messy rooms
Hobbies: Writing, painting, reading
The Logistics

Abilities:

  • Acupuncture - Perhaps one skill she chooses to specialize in is acupuncture, which is a skill that involves needles for medicinal purposes. It can be assumed that due to intense practice, her skills in acupuncture are above average, and some can even say she mastered it. She has good knowledge of the human body which allows her to identify the different points needed. She is also trying to develop a skill where she makes needles out of ice.
  • Pharmaceutical Abilities - because of her love for knowledge, Yoki strives to understand the human body and what affects it. She likes to read up on different herbs and ingredients in order to create ointment and medicine. Most of her skills are there to help build up her reputation as a healer.
  • Kitchen Skills - Her ability to come up with concoctions doesn’t only help with medicine, Yoki is good at creating great-tasting meals as well. Her meals are usually healthy and are in line with helping a person live a good lifestyle.
  • Hand-to-hand combat - Yoki's hand to hand combat skills are beginner level as she doesn't really practice that much. Being a non-confrontational person, Yoki would rather not fight with her fists but would rather fight through bending. She avoids it if she can.
  • Water-bending - One of the abilities that come naturally to her is water-bending. It is as though she becomes one with the water and she uses it for healing and for her protection. She finds that water bending is extremely convenient especially with her line of work.
  • Blood-bending - A newfound ability that she discovered she could do. However, the most she could do with blood-bending is the relaxing of the muscles or tightening of the joints. Her ability to use it isn't exactly destructive, but rather, she uses it for medicinal purposes in order to help people with strains or muscle pains feel better.

Weaponry & Other Gear:
Yoki doesn’t have any weapons, but she does have a first aid kit and an assortment of needles.

The History

Character History:
A person is simply the result of a million choices. Yoki wishes her ancestors made better choices, but she wouldn’t be who she is today without them.

Yoki’s ancestry can only be traced so far back. Her grandmother was one of the water-benders captured in the fire nation. She was a rebellious, strong willed lady, yet the prison broke her spirit. A part of her simply wanted to kill herself, however, after several suicide attempts, a fire-nation guard caught her attention.

Because of his sadistic nature, he mentally tortured her. He wouldn’t allow her to die, even though it was what she wanted. She hated this game and hated her survival. She didn’t want to live life anymore if it meant spending the rest of her life in a cruel prison. To him, mind games weren’t enough and to make matters worse, he sexually abused her. She became pregnant with his child and for the first time in ages, she found a reason to endure and survive.

Once the guard learned about this, he was unsure with how to continue. He had a family back home, yet, despite him being extremely cruel, he wasn’t about to kill a woman who was pregnant with his child. He allowed her to stage her death, and when nobody was looking, he released her. He gave her a bit of money, told her he was sorry, and told her to flee.

She wanted to go home, yet it wasn’t safe. She stopped practicing bending and gave birth to a set of twins. The guard who raped her, she heard, was killed after they discovered he set a prisoner free. She learned they were looking for her. She had to run.

Perhaps it was fate that kicked in, but eventually she had migrated to the southern tribe. However, because of the fire-nation blood that ran through her children, her family wasn’t whole-heartedly accepted. Despite that, she tried her best to tend to her children. Luckily, both of them grew up to be water-benders, and she speculated that the guard who had tormented her wasn’t even a bender at all.

Her son eventually left the home in search of a spiritual journey. The last time she heard from him, he had his own family up in the northern tribe. Her daughter decided to become a healer and married a handsome warrior. They had a daughter who they called Yoki.

Yoki was a soft-spoken child who was often teased by the other children. Because of this, she spent most of her time at home, practicing medicine with her mother. Her mother was a kind woman, and understood what being isolated meant. However, because of her skills with healing, they were seen as good people despite being a little bit different.

Instead of hatred, Yoki grew in compassion and tried her best to be nice to the people who didn’t like her. She grew up lonely because her mother couldn’t conceive anymore due to abnormalities with her womb. Her father was simply happy to have a charming daughter even though he was away most of the time.

Because of this, Yoki’s bond with her mother is extremely close. Yoki’s mother, however, encourages her to see the world, and maybe take her own spiritual journey.

As of the moment, her biggest goal is to search the world to improve her medical knowledge.
Sample Role-Play

A head.

That was all she saw.

Literally.

The man was buried, neck down into the snow. At first, Yoki couldn’t identify the shape in the storming blizzard. She was out, in search of the corpses of dead animals and bones she could grind up for medicinal purposes. It was by chance that she ran into the strange being that was probably dying of frost-bite.

It took her no less than a split second to react and run towards the man. She manipulated the snow and softened it, just in case there were bits of him that were so frozen, they broke off. He was whole, and possibly not dying of frost-bite yet. She dragged him over to her sleigh, a wooden thing given to her by her father.

The walk home wasn’t too long. Luckily, he was just outside the village outskirts. She created a small fire inside her home and warmed up some water. She laid the man out on the clinic bed, and applied a hot wet cloth to his forehead. He was breathing, thankfully. He was shivering.

She wasn’t sure where this man had come from. She didn’t care for his origins very much. She had to focus on his recovery. The questions could come later. She turned her head to check up on him. She changed the wash cloth every hour, making sure it remained warm.

Her mother was probably out somewhere doing her own thing. The most Yoki could do, was help and wait.

She hovered by the person as though she herself was his mother. Perhaps this was a very maternal thing to do. It was almost instinctual by nature, she believed, to assume this role of a parental figure in the ward. The man trembled slightly in the bed; he was still cold. Yoki changed the rag from his head once more, adding wood to the fireplace to make the fire burn a little higher.

She turned to see him moving, as though he was about to say something. His eyes opened slowly, not in a flash, but in a flutter. He struggled to sit up, and Yoki simply wrung the cloth in her hand over a small white basin. “You shouldn’t try that.” She said, as she turned towards him. “You’re still very much in pain, and you could have gotten frost bite. It was a miracle none of your limbs broke off.

His voice came out in a whimper. He was burning up a fever and that plus all the stress combined seemed to make him weak. “Where am I?” He asked her. She checked his temperature. He definitely had a fever.

You’re in the Southern Water Tribe. Did you not know you were here?” She asked the man. He shook his head slowly, and his eyes simply stared into hers with shock. “What is the last thing you remember?” She asked him.

I…I…I don’t know.” He struggled. She nodded.

Try to rest. You’ll feel better after you do."

ugh formatting

so being an expert at that many skills does seem fairly questionable, and we are fairly stringent on bloodbending given the ability it has to control others.
that, and it's only really applicable during a full moon (which, another downside would be that everyone would conveniently just make their RP happen on the full moon, which just doesn't happen). the "psychic bloodbending" styles used by Tarrlok or Amon are just outright banned, so hopefully that wasn't what you were aiming for.

this isn't a rejection--just my thoughts and requests for some clarification. lemme now what you think.

I don't mind limiting it to full moon Smile I just thought it'd be a cool ability to come in handy when muscle-spasms come in. Definitely not the kind of blood bending Tarriok or Amon can do. Definitely not as strong as Hama's either.

EDIT:: also, about the skills, I was thinking since she's going to be a strict healer, keeping her area of expertise lenient towards heaiing would be okay.

I just think that it would require an exceptional amount of skill to be able to perform. I guess it just seems that with that and so many other expert-level fields, she just seems too skilled for her age.

[although like I said in chat, I am generally much more open to things gained through RPing/effort, rather than things started off with from the get-go.]

alrighty, works for me.
levelling up and becoming more skilled through RPing generally helps give characters something to strive towards, which is part of what I like about it.
