Full Name: Kameela Narangtsetseg (Pakistani and Mongolian counts as Asian right?)
Gender: Female
Age: 14
Element: Earth
Birthplace: Si Wong Desert
Position: Sandbender nomad/escort guide
Personality: Kameela is stubborn, headstrong, passionate, a bit conceited, and sometimes a bit too judgmental, though can be very fun and friendly. She is usually open and helpful to foreigners that wander or travel in the Si Wong Desert, but as she tends to judge on appearance. Therefore, can be quite cold to those who appear to be shabby, though almost always warms up to them later on. Her biggest pet peeves are the rude and desperate wanderers that frequent around Misty Palms Oasis that give the once-beautiful town a bad name. Death is nothing new to Kameela, as the harsh environment of the desert is cruel and unforgiving even to the Sandbender tribes that know it so well. Yet never in her life has Kameela for a moment hated the desert, as the Si Wong was considered by her tribe, the Bouyei, to be the Great Mother, the Birthplace of their Ancestress Bolormaa, and their promised homeland.
Abilities: Kameela is a self-taught Sandbender. In Bouyei culture, girls were not forbidden to be Sandbenders, but they were not allowed to be taught Sandbending by teachers. Therefore, female trainees had to work extra hard to keep up with their male counterparts. As a result, she is by no means a master at Sandbending, though she is a fairly competent fighter. Kameela is also skilled with daggers, which she, regrettably admits, is better at than Sandbending.
Appearance: Kameela has green eyes, pale-ish skin (which is extremely rare for the Bouyei), and dirty blonde hair (some say it's brown). She is rather tall for her age with a height of about 67 inches. Her wardrobe is pretty much limited to the usual Sandbender outfit:
Bandage-like wrappings on arms and legs
Loose-fitting Brownish-tan and white garments
Scarf wrapped around head to cover hair and to be modest
Veil to protect face from the sand and to be modest
When indoors she appears like so:
However when outdoors in the desert and/or around male strangers (less strict around friends):
History: Kameela had a relatively simple childhood. She was the youngest daughter out of 9 siblings to her father Batukhan, and her mother Oyunbileg, therefore they didn’t really pay much attention to her and Kameela spent most of her free time exploring the desert landscape alone, which the tribal elders often warned against even for the most experienced sandbenders. But who ever listened to
them?
At the age of 7, Kameela discovered her sandbending ability. Had she been a boy, the entire Bouyei community would have had festive celebrations for 7 days and 7 nights to welcome a new Sandbender into the tribe’s warriors. However, since Kameela was obviously female it was quietly acknowledged by her parents with a pat on the head and never mentioned by them since. Undeterred by this unsupportive ambience, Kameela practiced her sandbending techniques every night after dinner until well after bedtime.
In the end, her perseverance, stubbornness, and hard work paid off. Kameela was welcome to be a warrior for the Bouyei. Yet, it turned out to be tedious work. Travelers hardly crossed into the Si Wong Desert and conflicts among other tribes were even rarer. The xenophobic nature of the Sandbender warriors also discouraged Kameela from being one of them for any longer as she wanted more and more to learn more about foreign cultures, not to steal from them and drive them out of their desert home. In the end, at the age of 13, Kameela left home and decided to be an escort guide, leading travelers and wanderers safely through the Si Wong Desert. She has kept this occupation ever since.
