Narrow Market Street MwSYx
In the middle of the crowded Lower Ring of Ba Sing Se, a long, narrow market street could be found. It was one of the hundreds of small markets of the Lower Ring. It had a decent amount of vendors, but compared to other markets it was relatively small.

NPC

Mai Shuiguo

Standing on a corner of the long, narrow market street, Mai was attempting to sell his fruits.
"Fresh fruit on sale! Taste some of my delicious yangmei, or some remarkable leechi nuts!" Mai was waving has hands all around his wooden stall, trying to attract and get attention from the passersby. On his shelves he had all kinds of fruit, ranging from regular Earth Kingdom fruit, to a little more tropical kinds, all the way from the Fire Nation.

Today had been just as any regular day, it was about noon, perhaps a little later, he had sold about half of his fruit to random buyers.

Norio Fujiwara

A sudden sound of sucking wind woke Norio from his near comatose state. He was breathing heavy; something had aggravated his asthmatic condition and he rolled over onto his hands and knees to make breathing easier and help balance his blood's flow through his body to prevent getting light-headed. After several long minutes of desperately sucking at the grungy, filthy air around him with his mouth and nose, he finally began to slow and he regained control of himself.

'Serves me right, I suppose,' He chastised himself mentally, 'Should know better than to pass out in a Spirit Spit slum gutter. Almost got me killed, I guess.'

Standing slowly with carefully controlled breaths, he felt his breathing ease as he lifted his head into fresher air. But it was followed by a short dizzy spell as his blood flow became momentarily disoriented, leaving him feeling light-headed. He resisted the urge to breathe more deeply to compensate, knowing it could easily trigger another attack. After another minute, his breathing was restored to average optimum condition and he suddenly became acutely aware of the hangover.

'Hell if I know how you can be drunk and have a hangover, but it's happened somehow.'

He took a moment to breathe only through his nostrils, once again weaning his lungs slowly from sucking wind through his mouth. Next was to check his purse in his coat pocket. It was lighter than he remembered, but he couldn't remember if it had been lost to the bar patrons or the barkeep. It didn't matter. It was gone. It was gone and he would just have to find some more.

Stumbling out into the busy street, he threw his eyes blearily up and down the street, fighting to make them focus until he could make out all the dirty, callused common folk. It made him miss home.

'Dirt clods,' he thought with an even measure of disgust, 'Bumbling simpleton dirt clods. That's what the Earth Kingdom is. It's houses of marble sitting merrily in mud sties ruling over dung beetles and dirt clods. Earth Kingdom is too dirty, Water Tribes are too cold, and Air Temples are too vegetarian.'

But home was too hot. Not that heat was at all uncomfortable, in fact it was dearly missed. It was hot in a different way. He couldn't go home. He couldn't face his family. Not without losing his head.

'It's time for a change,' he told himself, 'Maybe an ocean cruise until I get tired of sea sickness and citrus fruit and rum and salty sailors who have been alone too long. That sounds rather pleasant, actually.'

And with that, Norio began stumbling down the street, mumbling to himself about ships and water to clean off his filth and foul-mouthed sailors and what he was going to eat that day.

Mood: Tipsy, unhappy.
Condition: Inebriated, but stable.

[Due to the extreme lack of participation in this thread, I'm double posting to get Norio moving to another area.]

Norio Fujiwara

Staggering lazily while he worked out the kinks in his arms and legs, he stretched and yawned, relaxed in the comfort of the wide berth the commoners nearby gave him due to his poor hygiene. It wasn't pleasant to him either, but it had its benefits.

It had disadvantages too. Vendors didn't want to trade with him. Made buying food that much harder. He wasn't too worried. He ate a good amount last night which meant that he had a day or two before he was desperate for something solid. He checked the vendors anyway, careful to look only at the price listings and not the vendor's eyes. Seemed no one around liked his eyes these days. Hard to say why, but he suspected it was because they were yellow.

But if it weren't for those yellow eyes, he never would have noticed the flier stuck to the side of the stall, aside of the produce listing.

"THE EARTH KING WANTS YOU!" The flier told him.

'I suppose he does,' Norio thought, pondering the rumors of war he'd been hearing. Perhaps there was more to them than he'd thought. If so, the Ba Sing Se was not the best place for him to stick around. He wasn't anyone they could ransom or politically hang for anything, but he very much was a prime target for any misplaced feelings of Earth Kingdom patriotism to spark a lynch mob. In Ba Sing Se, it wasn't as likely to happen with the heavy power of the Earth King at hand, but here in the lower rings, lynch mob murders of bums would likely not be high priority for the city guards to handle.

It was time to skip town.

'Every situation has its benefits to those who appreciate them and know how to make the most of them. The great thing about having nothing is that you can always carry it with you.'

Some proverb some old man gave him some time ago. He thanked the old man now, whoever he was, though he wasn't sure why. The advice was comforting, though only helpful in keeping a positive attitude, which would only get you so far in the Lower Rings of Ba Sing Se.

He followed the flow for now, trickling his way down towards the gates. He wasn't sure yet where he was going or how he was going to get there, but he knew that his time in the impenetrable city was spent.
