Personality: (40) Daiyu Zhen Du is a young, tomboyish girl, as rough around the edges as the earth and stone she bends. Despite her young age, she is extremely confident, her bravery and boldness often exceeding her abilities. Violence is her calling card, and she never backs down from a challenge, living for the thrill of combat.

Abilities: (40) A somewhat skilled earthbender, Daiyu is by no means an expert, though she never lets that stop her from wading fists-first into a fight. She also has some ability with nunchucks, as well as simple martial arts, though she prefers to use any patch of earth readily available, bending and shaping it to her will.

Appearance: (60) Daiyu is rarely seen without her black hat, a rounded variation of the conical hat seen throughout the earth kingdom. It, along with her simple clothing, is trimmed with green, the chin strap usually hanging loose at her cheeks. Sandy brown hair cascades down from under the hat, seldom-brushed or cut, and usually obscuring her piercing emerald eyes. Black tights run down the length of each arm from beneath the sleeves of her light green blouse, and where her skirt ends just below the knees, so does her clothing, always traveling barefoot. On her back is the Sansetsukon that belonged to her grandfather. Daiyu will often use one section of the three-part-staff as a walking stick.

Description: Actually three short-staves connected together by easily-detached hooks linked together at the ends, the Sansetsukon that Daiyu carries can be used as a one or two short staves, rather large nunchaku, or a long, sweeping weapon.
Abilities: The weapon can be extremely useful or extremely unwieldy depending on the experience of the wielder. Best used for self defense it is an excellent weapon for keeping opponents at bay at mid to short range, allowing for the staff to be disconnected and shortened at a moment's notice. It is especially good at tripping up mounted enemies, or reaching around an opponent's defenses to strike at their sides.
Creator: Daiyu Zhen Du's Sansetsukon was forged by a family friend of the Zhen Du that Daiyu and Grampa were traveling to meet when they were separated.

History: (120) Daiyu was born to a young couple in the Earth Kingdom city of Omashu. Her parents, traveling merchants, would often leave Omashu to conduct their business, leaving young Daiyu alone with her grandfather, a talented earthbender. Tragedy befell Daiyu's parents on one of their expeditions when bandits waylaid their caravan. Left to raise young Daiyu alone, 'Grampa' as the young girl affectionately called him, began instructing her in the ways of earthbending. He was a harsh but caring teacher, and the bond between them grew strong. As Daiyu, and Grampa, grew older, the aging earthbender realized that his health could soon fail him and leave Daiyu entirely orphaned. Packing what few essentials they needed, they set out for Ba Sing Se, where friends of the Zhen Du family were waiting to take custody of the growing girl. Halfway through their journey, Grampa and Daiyu were separated in a terrible storm, and the young, would-be earthbending girl now travels, alone, unaware if her grandfather even lives.

Daiyu

Daiyu watched as the men rushed at her with their spears, slipping the Sansetsukon from her back and unhooking two of the short staves, balancing the third on her toes. Three of them. Three piece of her staff. This was going to be quite the challenge. She smiled. Daiyu Zhen Du, after all, loved a good challenge! Raising both arms quickly as she held onto the staves, she summoned up two melon-sized rocks from the ground and kicked the staff on her foot into the air. Spinning, she batted both rocks at the charging men, first with her the staff in her left hand, then the right. Both were unconscious before hitting the ground. She stopped just in time to catch the third piece of the staff with her toes, flicking it up and hooking it back into the other two pieces. The third and final attacker lunged at her with his spear, but Daiyu was younger, smaller, and faster. Her reach was perhaps not as great, but the Sansetsukon more than compensated. She stepped forward, beneath the shaft of the spear, and swept the fully connected three-piece-staff along the ground, catching the ankle of the attacker and knocking his feet out from underneath him. Twirling the staves and slipping them back onto her back, she flashed a big, proud, toothy grin. She'd hardly gotten into trouble, Grampa would be pleased! Turning on her heel to leave, she stopped suddenly, almost falling over. Six guards had arrived during the small encounter. Earthbenders by the looks of them. "...oh..."
