The Rise of the 55th Earth Queen

[if there are any plot-related inaccuracies in this post, just let me know and I'll fix them. Meili would definitely reminisce a lot about past events such as her rise to power, as that is what threw her into this mess to begin with.]

Meili Mitali Zalika

The fall of Earth King Lei brought about a brief power struggle during which there was a lot of confusion, and what exactly went on inside the walls of the Palace wasn't exactly clear, even to most of the people *IN* the palace. However, shortly after 54th King Lei's death was made official, the individual to take the throne was female, and Meili Mitali Zalika became the 55th Earth Queen. Meili reminisced on this story quite often, as it was fairly recent, and it had changed her life. Conditions on the continent were not exactly ideal, as there was still a bit of unrest from when Lei had attacked and killed the Southern Water Tribe chief without provocation. This left Meili's Earth Kingdom in a position prone to attack from the Water Tribes as retaliation. Furthermore, Meili heard rumors that the Fire Nation was allying with them. If that happened, they had three fronts on the Earth Kingdom, and Meili did not want that. Her first order of business was to send word to the four Air Temples that because of their proximity to the Earth Kingdom [and their location *IN* the Earth Kingdom in the case of the Northern Air Temple], that they could potentially be attacked and/or occupied by Fire Nation and Water Tribe forces intending to move in on the Earth Kingdom. Meili's messengers promised defense and support for the Air Nomads if they were willing to pool their forces. if the Air Nomads agreed to aid the Earth Kingdom when Meili requested it, Meili guaranteed that her troops would defend their temples to the best of their ability, and she had troops across the continent that were ready to deploy to the Air Temples should they accept her proposition. Most of her propositions were successful, given that the Air Nomads were not exactly ready to take on one nation, let alone two, by themselves, and many of them, particularly the mechanics up in the Northern Air Temple, knew that they stood between the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes, meaning that they would either be marched through, or attacked in an invasion launched from one of the poles. However, all of the Air Nomads were given the same warning as the rest of the people in the Earth Kingdom. There was no real war going on at the moment, and all Meili was doing was making sure that the Earth Kingdom would be ready for an invasion should one occur on their soil. She could not undo what Lei had done, and she understood that the Water Tribes had the right to want revenge. The question was--how far would they go to obtain it? Whatever the case, Meili was not about to lose the stability of her people or her kingdom. She began a propaganda campaign that spread through Ba Sing Se, and subsequently the remainder of the continent over time, supporting her cause. It was not a hateful campaign, nore one of self-promotion. it seemed that the flyers and the news flashes were only to boost patriotism and loyalty to the Earth Kingdom and the Earth Queen. Meili even spent a few weeks travelling through most of the Earth Kingdom to show the people of the continent their leader, and to show that she cared deeply for the power of the people and the kingdom united. The last thing she wanted was for it to fall apart, and she figured that if she wanted support from her people, that she needed to support them. Thus, such was her campaign. She did not do or say anything to demean or condemn the Water Tribes or the Fire Nation. She was simply spreading the word that she wished for support from her people, and that she would do anything in her power to keep her borders safe from enemies and potential enemies alike. Ideally... it would not have to go as far as actual war.
