| We all know that benders rely a lot on celestial powers - such as the full moon marks the possibility of blood bending and enhanced water bending, sunspots can effect the fire benders, and of course comets and so forth. Perhaps on the side bar we could mark celestial activity? Moon cycles, seeing of certain comets or stars, anything else we could be creative with.
Thoughts? |

| I'm up for it, but I don't know the first thing about astronomy and the likes, so I couldn't be a very good indicator of where what celestial objects are, and such. but if there is an eclipse [solar or lunar; doesn't matter > ] in the near future, Earth Kingdom's gonna wreak havoc. | |

| Hmmm, this can easily be made. The seasons could each be a month long in real time, or whatever seems fit.
As for the celestial events, I'll leave it up for you all to decide.

| LOL, Earthquakes! That's when Earthbenders cannot bend, because the earth is moving too violently for them to be able to bend. | |

| unless of course they are the ones *causing* the Earthquake.
get enough people hitting the ground, and it will shake--especially if they are earthbenders.

| But if its a certain amount of Earthbenders maybe even an army that starts the Earthquake, but can't stop it, all of them would lose touch with the Earth. Thus lose their bending until the earth stops shaking. | |

| given that earthquakes are just moving earth (on an obviously very large scale), I'm pretty sure skilled earthbenders would be able to either stop or slow it, or still be able to pull out rocks and whatnot to throw around. if earthbenders couldn't intercept moving rocks, then they would be in some deep deep doodoo. | |

| Thats all very nice, but what about sandbenders? earthquakes wont effect them.

| I think the earthquake idea was a bit silly...but if we did go along with it hurricanes could impede airbenders. I find it to be a strange idea though since earthquakes and hurricanes will harm everyone anyway. | |

| I agree tha the earthquake idea is silly. I personally think that there just isn't anything that inhibits earthbenders or airbenders.
firebenders have the comet to power them up, and the eclipse to shut them down. waterbenders have the full moon to power them up, and the eclipse to shut them down
if earth and air have to have something to shut them down, they need something to power them up too. I think that was why there was the trade-off regarding Fire and Water.

| I was actually suggesting that tectonic plate movement would make earth benders stronger. Like they can tap into the power of the earth by doing so? If for some reason the mantle within the earth was no longer magnetized and liquid - then the earth benders would lose their power (so, if you were an Earth Bender on Mars, where the mantle no longer is liquid, - you would be out of luck), or if the moon doesn't exist. Moon's gravitational force effects the axis of the planet - thus giving the earth polarity - thus magnetizing the mantle, thus causing tectonic plate movement that won't completely destroy the life on the planet's surface. Ahem. So, if anyone wants to destroy the moon (like physically, not spiritually) I would say the Earth Benders would be useless, but then again, the whole world would be destroyed. /endrampantthought Hmm. As for a Celestial Calendar - why not have a full moon on a real full moon day. So the day a thread is created (such as February 7th) will count as a Full Moon thread, but only if the thread was created on that day. Also - there is easy HTML codes found here (url : http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/daily_moon_phases.phtml ) for the forum. |

| My logic is that since there is so much techtonic plate movement, the Earth benders would have major trouble moving their feet and bending since the Earth is no longer rock hard or solid. The earth during an earthquake is violently shaking back and forth, so a Earthbender would have to bend against the Earthquake. Also because of the violent shaking its hard for Earthbenders to execute their rock hard style bending which teaches that you have to be solid and un-moving. | |

| I understand that, but all the other benders would be, ya know, caught in the middle of an earthquake. I guess airbenders could have an advantage...but still. | |

| like I said--I think the price that firebenders and waterbenders get for having the comet and the full moon is that they have eclipses where they lose their power.
So unless the earthbenders have a moment where they get powered up, there's no need to give them one where they're powered down, especially since there was no reference to it in the show the way comets, eclipses, and full moons were.

| So then we leave the Earthbenders as is, the issue arises for Air Benders, what of them? Keep them as is or power up/power down? | |

| Since Earth and Air are opposite, it would make since that they both don't have any events that effect their bending. | |

| those were my thoughts exactly. Fire and Water are opposites and they have a power-up and a power-down, whilst earth and air are opposites and have neither a power-up or a power-down. | |
