Soundbending?

I noticed that the airbenders have a lack of a crazy cool bending. (Metalbening, Bloodbending, and Lightning are arguably crazy cool.) and I thought something that could be interesting is Soundbending. Sound is merely the vibration of air and the molecules in it, the disturbances creating all the noises we hear from footsteps to gongs. Soundbending could potentially help with distraction and stealth. They could give away fake positions or just mess with the opponents mind. It's a bit farfetched, but I thought it might be a bit interesting.

Tornadoes, you guys at master level can swirl air at high velocities and create Tornadoes in the air.

...Isn't that just air? Hell, you could make a fire tornado if you wanted couldn't you?

airbenders can fly with the gliders. I mean, if those fake-benders in the northern air temple can, then airbenders would be able to as well.

I always played with the idea that air benders could manipulate air inside the body. Such as rid air from lungs, take out oxygen from blood or perhaps - hey, manipulate their vocal chords like sound.

But I rather like sound bending. At the very least, have super sensitive hearing. Of course we would need only the best to have it, such as the highest ranked monk, else they would abuse it?

I also like the idea of compressing and combusting air, as was mentioned by Xilingshi. we all know what happens when you force air into a tighter space and then release it [like a soda--except MUCH more powerful], and given that Xilingshi got accepted, it appears to be legit.

That does sound neat! I like that idea a lot more, it's a great way to give airbenders a more offensive ability and it seems more intuitive than soundbending would be.

exactly. That's also what the character Xilingshi is based off of. She's a warrior through and through, and so she's an expert at tools of destruction xD

That, and I imagine a decent number of airbenders would dig the fighting spirit. I figure that since none of them want to be genocided again, that a handful of them would want to take up arms in defense of their temples/nation.

The combustion idea was most likely based on combustion mans firebending ability to compress air to make explosions (it was a firebending move, look him up on avatar wikia and its also listed in the moves for firebending on the firebending page.)

being the one who came up with the idea, yes, it was based off of that idea, as well as a little research into compression and combustion from physics and chemistry.
