Character Mary Sue Check

I would ask that anyone who is intending to or has made a character profile weigh it against these tests. Answering these honestly with my own character gave results between 1 and 4 points.

ah yes... the good old Mary Sue tests...

Zulera scored a friggin -9. She had several things going for her (power, beauty, that sort of thing), but she has so many selfish, sadistic flaws that it apparently was counterbalanced. haha.

this is a very good thread though, and should be taken seriously. These are the types of standards that as Meili, I hold people's characters up to.
But, given that I am only one mod, and no one else does it too, I just go by the majority rules, and so I refrain from officially passing or failing a character.

I know this is technically a double post, but I need to find a way to pin this thread or something. It should be a sticky thread over the characters board.

Obviously, these are not the rules which everyone must follow or anything, but these tests are generally very good guidelines on how to make a good, believable character.
granted, you've all heard it from me 228 times and counting, so take it as you will.

I got 12 which is pretty good I think. It's not my fault a nice person, Xue, nursed my character back to health though.

I got 28. Gysu apparently sucks. But that's okay, for as his creator I am his father. And a father must always love his children no matter how crappy they are or no matter what they have done!

I think the second test is more forgiving, I got a lower score on it.

you want it to stay low, and so 14 is actually a pretty good score. congrats to those who scored below 20ish, and to those that didn't... it's more like a set of guidelines on how to make more believable characters. just a heads-up.

I'm aware. I just know that Zhifeng is also my main character, and I know I'm far from a flawless author - so I'm sure I'll do something to heighten that score at some point. Then I hope that I'm good enough to mitigate said damages - but that remains to be seen.

I just took the second one...It wasn't as harsh...she got a 17:)

Zulera's like the anti-sue.
I took the 1st test this time and got a 10 without all the "De-Suifiers" [most of which covered some of Zulera's many vices] and that dropped her down to a 1.

so even though she's got all these cool powers and shiz, that fact that she's (A) not the best, (B) fairly lost fights against people that weren't necessarily better than her, and (C) has so many vices like selfishness, laziness, and such, dragged her score down. xD
just some thoughts.

well, take your time, and know that a lower score is better. :3

haha. Zenzi got a 6 on the 1st test, and a 3 on the 2nd one.

I just put Dood in, he got a 5 on the first test.
