Character Description Age: 19 Years Position: Traveling Dancer Nation: Fire Nation
| Subject: Kinalune Sun Jun 17, 2012 7:59 pm | |
| Full Name: Kinalune [ kee - nah - loo - nay ]
Gender: Female Age: Seventeen Years Element: Fire Birthplace: Southern Water Tribe Position: Traveler Personality: - Spoiler:
Kinalune is an easygoing, young soul and a free spirit. She flourishes and rejoices in the bare minimum life has to offer. While content to be left alone, she still has a strong sense of duty to her fellow man. She likes to help people out in any way she can, even if it puts her at a disadvantage or is out of the way. Kinalune is only too happy to assist anyone in any possible way she can. The only reason she would not help someone is if they had done her a wrong, or if she had seen them wrong another. While not one for confrontation or violence of any sort, Kinalune will stand up for herself and others if the need arises. When she was younger, she was very shy and could not talk to anyone except for her mother. She is still quiet and she likes to stay out of the spotlight, but she is no longer afraid of people. Nowadays, she enjoys listening to others’ stories and occasionally telling her own. When she first left the Southern Water Tribe, her goal was to find her father, but she has since lost hope that she will ever do so. So now, she awaits the day when she will be found by her mother. Abilities: - Spoiler:
Kinalune is a Firebender, but her skills in that area are limited to what little she has been able to observe from other Firebenders during her travels. She does not take much time to practice the art and she cannot afford lessons from a real Firebending instructor. Kinalune is only able to conjure up enough flames to start a campfire and light a path, but that’s pretty much it. If she is faced with an opponent, such as a mugger, she will most likely defend herself with a small silver dagger that she keeps on her person at all times, until she is able to make an escape. Her martial arts skills are adequate for defense, but she does not hold enough power in her punches or kicks to effectively knock someone out. Kinalune will normally hunt or forage for her food, rather than buying it. She uses her albino fire-ferret, who is trained to hunt out small game, to track her meals. Then, she uses her dagger to finish it off and prepare it for cooking. Appearance: - Spoiler:
Height: 5’ 2” Weight: 113 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown Being part Water Tribe, Kinalune’s skin is darker than the average Firebenders’ and she has bright blue eyes. She isn’t very tall, standing at only five feet and two inches, but she weighs a sturdy onehundred and thirteen pounds. Because she spent so much time in the sunshine, her once dark black-brown hair turned a lighter brunette color, the short locks streaked with coffee-colors. She prides herself with her hair second only to her sapphire eyes. The girl’s body is lean from all the walking she has done in her short and active life-time, but her muscles are compact and strong. Kinalune is not an exceptionally beautiful girl, but she does have an endearing features such as large eyes framed with dark lashes and a chin that comes down from her little ears and straight jawline to form a delicate, classical point. She has a strange nose that is caught halfway between being pointed and upturned. Both her hands and feet are small, but calloused from use. Kinalune is not a fan of clothing, so she doesn’t wear much of it. The only thing that is truly set with her is the necklace given to her by her mother. The average outfit worn by Kinalune includes a dark red strapless top that shows off the silver and ruby studs on her belly-button, and a skirt of the same color, held up by a dark grey and silver belt. Her shoes are thin-soled and made of layered black and grey cloth. On her right shoulder is a tattoo of the Fire Nation symbol. She will only occasionally stray from her average in the wardrobe department. Weaponry & Other Gear: - Spoiler:
Kinalune isn’t big on weapons. Mostly because she can’t afford a nice one and she doesn’t care enough to steal one. History: - Spoiler:
Kinalune’s story begins before she was born. Her mother was Laula, a non-bending member of the Northern Water Tribe. She was from a noble family, so her father had her engaged to the son of a fellow nobleman in the Southern Water Tribe. When she was eighteen years old, Laula was shipped away. On her way there, her ship crashed into a rock and had to be docked in a Fire Nation harbor for repairs. While stuck there, Laula fell in love with a Fire Nation soldier named Jinjou who was stationed in the town. Their relationship escalated rapidly in the two months it took for the ship to get back into working order and restocked. When it was time for her to leave, Laula realized the mistake she made in becoming so close to Jinjou, so she acted cold and harsh toward him, saying that he meant nothing to her and he should just man up and move on. As her ship began to sail away, instead of moving on, Jinjou took out his sword and ran it straight through his own heart. Laula did not see this because she was already sobbing at her loss in her quarters, not knowing that she was pregnant. A few weeks later, when Laula’s ship had finally arrived at the Southern Water Tribe, her pregnancy had still not begun to show. During the ride, she had composed herself into a glass-eyed ghost of the woman she had previously been. She met her betrothed, Janan, and the bonding ceremony was completed. She moved into his home and they lived peacefully, if not happily, together. It was not until a month had gone by that Laulu’s belly began to round. Janan proudly assumed that the child was his, as did Laula, and the entire tribe rejoiced at the thought of a new member. When Laula gave birth to a healthy baby girl sooner than expected, everyone assumed that little Kinalune was simply premature. As she began to grow, however, people noticed how she was different from the other children. She was paler, but not sickly, and the poor girl also had to wear more layers of clothing than the other children in order to stay warm enough to function, making her look frumpy. She could never really get warm enough. Due to her oddness and shyness, Kinalune never made any friends. Instead of playing with the other children, she would help her mother around the house or go out on her own and chase the penguin-seals around or pretend that she was adventuring in a far off land. --- Kinalune’s life changed when she was eight years old and discovered that she was a Firebender. The day itself started like any other; Kinalune woke up to her mother preparing breakfast. It was penguin-seal porridge. As usual. Laula and Janan were already seated on the floor with bowls of the warm substance in their hands. Kinalune was served her portion and ate it dutifully, wishing the food had more flavor. Afterwards, the girl dressed and walked outside, heading out of the village. As Kinalune rounded a corner, she collided with a boy not much older than her. She immediately recognized him as the meanest, most violent kid in the village. Most of the other children, except for the bravest and stupidest boys, did not dare to cross him. He rose up from the ground, red-faced, and demanded that Kinalune apologize to him, but she was too scared to speak. He raised his fist in anger, but Kinalune brought her own hand up, hoping to block the blow. Instead of just blocking the punch, Kinalune did much more damage than just that. As her hand flew, a sort of instinctual need to protect herself ignited inside of her, and a yellow flame lit itself about her fingers. When the boy’s hand hit hers, it was almost instantly pulled back, and the boy roared in both pain and anger. He ran off in the other direction, and Kinalune pushed herself up off the ground and stumbled back to her own home. She burst through the animal-pelt door of the house and fell into the arms of the very confused Laula and Janan. Between sobs, she tried to explain what had happened, but her parents were unable to understand her through the tears. Suddenly, a figure burst through the door. A deep voice shouted, “Where’s the Firebender that hurt my son!?” The loudness caused little Kinalune to whimper, try to disappear further into her mother’s embrace, and place her hands over her ears. Her right hand was still warm. “There are no Firebenders here, look around you, Brother.” Were the calm, if not agitated, words of Janan. “What is all this talk about a Firebender anyway? What has happened?” “That little witch burned my son with her Firebending!” The man, who was the father of the mean boy, accused. His beefy hand came up, a thick digit pointed straight at Kinalune. Janan simply laughed. “My daughter comes from two long lines of noble Water Tribesmen. She may be a Waterbender, but a Firebender? The thought! It’s simply preposterous.” While the two men spoke, realization dawned in Laula’s eyes. The woman gently took Kinalune by her shoulders, and raised her up a tiny bit. Kinalune looked into her mother’s eyes confusedly, and Laula brought their faces close together. After a pause in which the two looked into each other’s eyes, Laula whispered, “Did you really Firebend, baby-girl?” Kinalune shrugged and brought her hand up. After a second of concentration, a small, flickering flame appeared in Kinalune’s palm. A similar fire appeared in Laula’s eyes. It was a beautiful light that had been gone for eight years. “Listen to me, Kinalune,” Laula said. “Janan is not your father. Your father is a man named Jinjou. He is a Fire Nation soldier. When word gets out that I was not faithful to my betrothal, people will be angry. The tribe will cast both of us out at best. They will be angry enough to kill at worst. You need to get out of here to be safe. Go to the Fire Nation and find Jinjou. He will take care of you. A merchant ship should be leaving soon to deliver fish to the Fire Nation. Get on it. Try not to be seen. Cook the fish with your Firebending if you have to.” Laula dug something out of her pocket and placed it in Kinalune’s hands. It was a dark navy cloth necklace with a smooth blue gem hanging down from it; the betrothal necklace made for Laula by Janan. “Take this to remember me by. When things are safe here, I will come find you. Do you understand?” Kinalune could only nod numbly. Laula smiled grimly, picked Kinalune up, and silently took her to the back entrance of the house. The two men were still arguing. “Run, my little Kinalune. Run.” So she did. She ran to the harbor. She ran to the smelly barrels of fish. She jumped into one that was only half full, bringing the lid down on top of her. She felt herself being moved when her barrel was lifted and carried by strong men. She felt the barrel being placed with all the others. She waited until everything was silent. She waited until all the men were gone, and it was only her and the lifeless fish. Only then did she let herself cry. --- A few days later, in the Southern Water Tribe, a woman was executed for adultery. Pet: - Spoiler:
Itachi is a male albino fire-ferret that was found by Kinalune. He had somehow managed to get himself stuck in an old Fire Nation trap. With her dagger, Kinalune was able to free him. He has not left her side since. Fiercely loyal, Itachi does all he can for Kinalune. This includes tracking down food for her and refusing to eat any until Kinalune has had her fill, staying up during the night to watch over Kinalune as she sleeps (and sleeping in her bag during the days), and biting the ankles of all that dare oppose her. In Itachi's eyes, Kinalune is the kind and merciful Empress of the Universe, and should be treated as such by everyone.
