Personality: Hiro is a relatively shy young man with a passion for earth bending. Unlike a common stereotype of earth benders being extremely impulsive, Hiro is patient and rather sweet tempered due to his quiet upbringing and isolation from the rest of the Earth Kingdom. Although, despite his silent nature, he is stubborn and never backs down from a fight, determined to prove himself a worthy bender.
Hiro firmly believes all should be treated equally and has a deep loathing for benders who take advantage of their gifts for personal gain. This gentle young man is very protective of the friends he encounters on his travels. As was mentioned, he is still very shy, and when nervous or embarrassed he tends to stutter, and blush, mostly around woman.


Abilities: As he grew up on a farm, with non bending parents, his bending skills are not as advanced as others his age. As a result, he has had the chance to develop fighting skills in other aspects, such as hand to hand combat. Hiro is talented in the fine art of archery as he often needed to hunt as a child. Despite his lack of knowledge and training, he is a quick learner in all aspects of life, including his bending.


Appearance: Hiro is a tall young man with slightly tanned skin and a rather muscly physique, a result of years of hard physical labor, working all day in the sun on his parents farm. Hiro has long dirt brown hair pulled back most of the time, as it is tradition for his family not to cut their hair until they turn 20. Hiro's eyes are a striking emerald green, with a rather firm and defined jaw. Hiro is considered very handsome, but in his childhood he was rather scrawny and small.


History: Hiro was born in a small, Earth Kingdom village, where benders were discriminated. The villagers had had past experiences where bandits with bending abilities raided their homes, kidnapping and murdering innocent villagers. From these raids, the villagers assumed that all benders were like this, treating the weak without hesitation and without mercy.

Hiro was raised by his non-bending parents who believed that the benders were heroes and guardians, and secretly opposed the other villagers who thought differently. At the first sign of Hiro's gift they fled the village before anyone would realise. They came across a small farming settlement, near the Great Divide, and chose to finish raising the boy there. At the age of 15, Hiro began experimenting with his bending, And discovered how easy it really was. He wanted to learn more.

At the age of 17 he asked his parents if they could visit Omashu so he could develop his talent, they refused and told him about his birthplace and their views on bending. This explained why they were so protective and why they wouldn't let him leave. Frustrated he ran away, deciding it was time to leave the nest. He spent the rest of the year travelling to different parts of the earth kingdom where he did chores for locals in exchange for shelter and food. Through this he has a gained a set of survival skills but still remains the shy and gentle young man at heart.

Along his journey Hiro had plenty of spare time, and took advantage of this by practising his earthbending. Later in his travels, he realised that he had reached the extent of his bending. He could not advance further until he found someone to teach him. So he began heading towards Omashu where he hopes to find an earthbending teacher.
