Full Name: Yasu Ruyin
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Element: Water
Birthplace: Northern Water Tribe
Position: Citizen

Personality: At first glance, laid back and calm. Yasu tends to stay out of the center of things, but doesn't object when events 'center' him. Very observant and reserved in situations that don't call for him to speak. If, however, he is speaking- enthusiasm overflows into every word. He never really learned to fight with waterbending, besides basic attacks on still targets, but is wonderful at cooking with his bending. He's always wanted to visit the fire nation, strangely curious about the opposite element. Enjoys: cooking, bending, traveling, learning, having a good time, sparring, animal-mixtures. Indifferent to: loneliness, poverty, complaint. Does not enjoy: bitter cold, injustice, interruption, the color blue (after many years of seeing just that), ...

Abilities: Waterbending, but not for fighting. He will mostly cook or clean with his bending, and uses it to grow plants or take a drink. The only weapon he tends to use is a plain sturdy knife. It is for defense, cutting, shaving, everything. He is pretty adept with it, having used it so much. His bending attack/defense is limited to basics, and whatever he can creatively come up with. Having been in few spats, Yasu is not very practiced. A blast of water to a dirty food-plate, a douse of the floor, a saturation of soil for a growing tree, a steaming cup for tea, and soup-bending are mainly his abilities.

Appearance: Dark, short hair rests lightly in unkempt tufts, the brown so shady it is nearly black. Scraggly as a kid, Yasu has fleshed out and developed a faint semblance to someone handsome. Blue-green eyes that reflect his element, like so many waterbenders before him, don't draw much attention unless he is animated in speech. Hands are slightly rough from hauling around heavy pots and pans in his work, with various mostly healed burn-scars from the ovens. In NWT weather, he wears a thick coat with a simple shirt underneath. The coat laces at the top, helping keep the hood over his face. The front clips in to place on the inside, and the blue material is lined with fur. Pants are a matching blue. In lighter weather, he wears a light blue shirt with green trim, and pants of a light material. A green sash at his waist holds his knife and a small jug of water, and is useful for various things. Shoes are leather and plain, the same shade as his hair. He has no extraneous decor.

History: Raised in the icy northern water tribe, his father spent his days working and preparing soldiers for battle... in the food stand he ran. Sometimes the off-duty (yet maintained) soldiers would give him tips and such on battle, but on the days Yasu was allowed to accompany his father to work and help out, he paid no attention to the tips. What he listened to was the stories of far off places, of legends and heroes and villains, good and evil, and the different cultures and benders. AS a young child, he was told to keep quiet and out of the way, so wide eyes often glowed from the shadows as he scurried along.

As time passed, his younger sister was born. At 5 years younger, she consumed his loving mother's attention and he was left to amuse himself. He felt mildly annoyed, but found that being by himself wasn't necessarily bad. He began to play with his bending, then, and would sometimes do so in the back kitchen of his father's work. Yasu began creating meals for himself with the various spices and foods, using his bending to improve upon what he ate. Toying with ice and snow and the ocean when he managed to sneak that far let him learn about the element.

His mother and father weren't benders directly, but enough of the neighbors and peers were. His ability was celebrated until a few of the neighbors discussed and concluded that he wouldn't become a beyond-average bender. After his parents heard this, they merely accepted his skill as a tool. Through school he began to play with the other benders, most water, but a few out of place or visiting from other lands. Whenever someone from far off showed up, Yasu was usually the first to greet them and make them feel stiflingly welcome.

Toward the end of school, a water tribe girl caught his eye. He chased after her, but a year after completing basic schooling she went with a guy who had been his best friend. Yasu never really made another best friend, though he kept in touch and hung out regularly with assorted acquaintances. Besides helping out his younger sister when she needed it, he never really grew close to her. As a bender, she seemed content to fall along in the northern water tribe as a healer. Like him, her bending seemed unextraordinary. He was proud of her, silently, and when she came of age to work at their father's business, welcomed her company.

Things turned sour as he grew restless, aging, yet not leaving the familiar territory. He began to get in scraps with his friends, where normally he would back down or be easygoing enough. His sister's healing kept it from his parents; he didn't want to harm them with the knowledge. Slowly he saved up money, knowing the day he would embark would be soon, drawing nearer... what would spark the seemingly doomed-to-normality fellow to finally follow his dreams?
