Even though Kina was a shy child, she has grown into a more-or-less confident young woman through repeated forced exposure to social situations brought on by the various unfortunate events that have befallen her. She's still a bit of an introvert, though, and tends to travel alone unless she is passing through dangerous areas. So much time to herself has warped Kina's sense of humor into a deeply ironic, mostly self-deprecating entity of highly concentrated sarcasm to hide the pain hiding away inside her irrevocably embittered heart. The firebender does have a soft spot for both animals and children, mostly because she envies their innocent, blissful naivety. She wants to have children one day, but finds the concept of marriage to be unappealing, as she is terrified of being tied down to one person or place for the rest of her life. Kina combats this with her nomadic lifestyle and tendency to run away from her problems rather than facing them head-on. Despite all of this, Kina has a generally cheerful nature, smiling, laughing, and even flirting with people occasionally enough.

Dancing is Kina's passion, but she is by no means a professional. As a self-taught individual, she lacks the discipline usually found in those who practice the art to a higher degree. Kina is unrestrained when she dances, often pushing herself to move until she is nearly ready to collapse. To make her performance seem more theatrical, Kina will attempt to incorporate her bending into her dance, making sparks float around her face or flames sizzle as she spins. The wildness about her style makes it very specialized, forcing critics to either love it or hate it. As far as street performers go, Kina is not bad, and is usually thrown generous amounts of coins for her effort.

Kina is also mostly self-taught as a firebender, but she has had much less success as a bender than as a dancer. Even her strongest fire blasts are barely potent enough to do any real damage to an enemy, except at a very close range. Because of this, Kina tends to use her firebending for menial things like adding flashy accents to her dancing or lighting campfires. If Kina is given no other choice but to use her bending as a weapon, then she will always aim for the eyes of her attacker with small darts of fire that take up little of her energy but are still terribly painful if they hit their target.

Kina's short, darkly tanned body is lightly muscled. Due to traveling and dancing so much, most of her strength is embedded within her legs. Her figure isn't as curvy as she would like, even though she eats like a pig, because she just sweats out all her extra weight under the hot Fire Nation sun. Kina has small feet and hands, but they are rough from extended use. She has a softly angled face with delicate features, rosy cheeks, and a smiling mouth. Kina has bright blue eyes and pouty pink lips from her mother. Her hair was long and nearly black when she was younger but has since been chopped short and faded into a light brown with many highlights and lowlights.

She has only two outfits, along with one heavy cloak. Her crimson-red dancer's uniform is nothing but a strip of cloth to cover her bosom, a voluminous ruffled mass of folded fabric held together at a golden belt to act as a skirt that goes down to her knees at its lowest point, and a feathered headdress. The ensemble is decorated with gleaming golden jewelry and dangling baubles that chime along with her movements. Kina's much less flamboyant sleeveless, short kimono is a few shades of brown and is made of a light-weight cloth that designates it for traveling. She owns golden sandals for the dancer's uniform and dark brown flats for the kimono.

Description: It's a simple little dagger with a blade no longer than six inches. The handle is wrapped tightly in leather. Kina keeps it concealed in her skirts unless she's using it.

Appearance: Itachi's upper body is that of a snow-white ferret, while his lower half is that of a pearly-scaled lizard. Standing upright with his head held high, Itachi towers at about seven feet tall from the ground to the tips of his ears. The distance from his nose to the tip of his tail is triple his height due to his long, sharply tapered tail. Each of Itachi's eyes are a semi-translucent red color. Itachi is outfitted with a custom-made saddle and bridle set made from dark brown leather, steel, and heavy red fabric.

Personality: Itachi is, above all else, fiercely loyal to Kina. He loves her deeply and would do absolutely anything for her. Itachi is usually very even-tempered, but if Kina is threatened, he will not hesitate to come to her aid with lethal force. The ferret-lizard's sharp claws and teeth and the sheer size of his body grant him the ability to easily protect Kina from bandits and thugs both on the roads and in cities. On any average day, however, Itachi is just a large, happy creature with a sense of curiosity that can get him into trouble, but an adorable face that can get him out of it.

History: Itachi was only a few months old - hardly bigger than a large dog - when he was ensnared in an old hunter's trap made of decaying ropes and rusty metal. He had been struggling in the trap for hours before Kina finally came along. The nine-year-old firebender wasted no time in using her small dagger to release him from the bindings, expecting the creature to scurry off the second he was free. Instead, Itachi attacked Kina with licks and snuggles; unaware that he was supposed to be a skittish wild animal, not a friendly domesticated pet. Since then, Itachi has not left Kina's side.

Before Kina was born, Lady Laika Mankoni of the Northern Water Tribe's Mankoni household - who would eventually become Kina's mother - had been on her way to meet her future husband in the Southern Water Tribe from her family's large estate. When Laika's ship made a pit stop in a Fire Nation port city, Kina was conceived by Laika and a low-ranking firebending soldier named Cheng Mao. Not knowing that she was pregnant, Laika continued to the Southern Water Tribe to be married to Lord Karkoff Kunayak, who fell in love with Laika the second he saw her. Although Laika did not love Karkoff, she was a good wife to him. When Laika began to show signs of pregnancy, she and Karkoff both believed that the child was legitimate.

Lady Kinalune Kunayak II was named after Karkoff's grandmother, who passed away just hours before Kina was born. Kina was a small, pale baby who was born a month before her parents expected her, so she was believed to be premature and sickly. Being weak on top of being their firstborn, Kina was dotingly cared for by Karkoff and Laika throughout her earliest years as she was raised in the lavish Kunayak estate and educated by the best tutors available. She was spoiled by her proud father but gently kept in line by her slightly stern mother. Kina was shy and only ever spoke to her parents. She loved to go outside and play with the penguin-seals as long as she was bundled up, because Kina could never seem to stay warm enough outside.

On one summer morning when Kina was eight years old, she was playing in the Kunayak estate's ice gardens under the watchful eyes of her parents, who were lounging on a bench. While messing around, Kina discovered that she could make sparks come out of her hands. Not knowing the repercussions that would follow, Kina excitedly rushed over to show her parents what she could do. It only took her a few tries before she had a small flame in her outstretched palm, but it was quickly snuffed out by the antarctic chill. She looked up with a large smile only to meet the horrified faces of her parents. The events that immediately followed are blurred in Kina's memory after so much time trying to suppress them, but Karkoff ended up banishing Laika from his household, as their marriage was annulled by adultery. Karkoff could not, however, cast away his beloved daughter, even though she was not his by blood.

Meanwhile, Laika was set to board a ship that would take her on a voyage of shame back to the Northern Water Tribe. Unbeknownst to either parent, Kina had snuck away from her father to stow away on the boat that her mother would board. By the time Karkoff realized that his daughter was missing, the vessel had already set sail. If not for the sudden raging hurricane that swept into the area, Karkoff would have sent another ship to retrieve Kina, but it was too late. After a few stressful days, Karkoff received word that Laika's boat had been destroyed by the storm, and Laika's body had been found, along with the bodies of many of the crew members. Kina survived only by clinging to the shattered pieces of the barrel that she had hidden inside, but because her body was never found, she was assumed to be dead by the tribe, sending Karkoff into a fit of deep depression.

The eight-year-old's barrel washed up onto the shore of a small island in the Southern Air Nomad's territory. Instead of trying to get back home, she hitched a ride to the main island, then took a ship from the main island to the Fire Nation. Kina would have tried to go back home, but she feared that her father would be angry with her, and she was afraid to face him after all of the grief that she had caused. She knew that there was very little chance that her mother had survived the storm, but knew that she deserved the heartache that Laika's death brought her. She believed that both of her parents would have been better off if she had never been born. To this day, Kina travels around the world, dancing and fighting all the way, to escape the demons that are never far behind.

A burn in her throat and a pain in her side signaled that Kina had been straining herself for long enough. If she didn’t stop dancing soon, the lightheadedness would arrive and she would pass out soon after. Kina knew this from experience, of course.

It didn’t take long for Kina to wrap up her performance. She simply came to a gradual halt and gave a short curtsy, gathering her skirts in her hands and flicking them back as she did so. Usually, Kina would have made flames dance around her as she spun for the final time, but she knew that she was too exhausted to even make the most meager spark. Her face and chest were flushed with a dark red blush and her breath came in heavy gasps that sounded almost like Itachi’s pants.

The firebender raised her eyes to view the quickly dispersing crowd. She took a moment to wave and smile brightly at their retreating forms before glancing down at her bowl. She did a double take. There were so many coins in the bowl that it had overflowed onto the street. I’ll have to come back to this city, Kina thought to herself briefly.

”Thank you all for your kindness!” The dancer shouted, even though most of her spectators had already gone from sight. She shrugged, then turned toward Itachi and clicked her tongue at him, motioning at the bowl of coins. Having helped Kina in her act countless times before, Itachi knew what was expected of him. The large ferret-lizard heaved himself upwards, ambled over to the bowl, took its rim between his teeth, and dragged it back into the shadows to protect.

As Itachi passed by Kina, the girl snatched a heavy leather canteen from one of the many saddlebags that hung from Itachi’s back. She twisted it open and chugged as much water down as she could, which she knew wasn’t the brightest idea but couldn’t keep herself from doing. When Kina had her fill, she lowered the canteen. Trails of water ran down either side of her mouth and fell under her chin until she took an arm and wiped her face.

Yeah, Loki, it's pretty much complete. I just need to finish the history and then it'll be all done. I've been procrastinating, lol. Sorry it's been sitting here taking up space for so long.
