A desert was a place of obvious predictability: endless sands in all directions, blazing heat of day and icy cool of night, dunes and winds swept across the land with the occasion sandstorm. Zai kinda liked the arid waste of the Si Wong Desert, it gave him time to be alone, to think over everything in the vast, empty heat as he lay on the annex of a dune. The time was early morn, so the desert had yet become an open oven for the day as the chill of the night had yet entirely subsided.

The Lone Mercenary Hakota-Zai himself was clothed as usual: with a tattered, ruined cloak over loose Kiyoshi garbs and his head wrapped almost fully in a thin, black cloth to cover all but his left eye. He seemed to have waived the leather pieced of his Kyoshi garb in favor of avoiding the heat and slathered his black cloak in something white for a like effect. The only prominent weapons on him were the blade peaking its hilt from behind his neck, though hidden in his Kiyoshi robes were indeed two ceramic fans he most used for combat these days.

But Zai didn't like what was on his mind, and even gripped tight to his abdomen, where an untreated wound lay hidden beneath the garb. He'd hoped to die here, in this desert, but it seemed his self-inflicted wound would not bleed in the least.

"Maybe I'll just bake in the sun indefinitely..." A grave voice with obvious signs of recently being smooth and soft. He wouldn't really expect anyone to find him in this king of deserts, but he was a white, black and green blot on the tallest dune he could find, just laying there still as a corpse.

Kuja Sakaiza

Awaiting a grand happening in his city, Kuja desired something out of the normal to occur. As he sat upon his own throne, he observed an hourglass and how each fine grain of sand created a stream as they passed through the medium just to descend into a pile of the particles that had previously experienced the same exact process. It was a rather gracious observation. Kuja was accustomed to appreciating the elegance of sand, therefore the sand in the hourglass seemed to be artwork to him. It was the display of an object he found beautiful, protected from all outside forces by a transparent glass casing allowing the transfer of sand from chamber to chamber to be visibly seen by any spectator. Finally as the final grain of sand departed from its position in the top, an hour had passed and the bottom chamber was filled. Flipping the hourglass over, Kuja arose from his throne, and started to depart from his Desert palace. As he progressed out the door, he was approached by a recon unit.
"My lord, there appears to be some man laying just outside the radius of the city. It appears as if he is unaware of our presence because he's kinda just..erm...laying there. Also the massive dunes shield us from being located by the visible eye. What do you want to do sir?" the head of the squad asked.

Taking a moment to reflect on the information, Kuja began to wonder who this person was. Also, he didn't understand why so many foreigners began popping up in the middle of his desert. "Uhm sir..." the man begun again.

However, Kuja cut him off with a sharp, "I heard you." Pausing for a second, "Do not let my tone frighten you, I was just lost in a sequence of thoughts momentarily. Remain at ease and continue to patrol the outskirts of the Si Wong Desert and alert the War Chief if anything occupies your curiosity. I will deal with this matter personally."

Kuja left the presence of the man and entered his own personal chambers. He removed his halberd from the vanity chest at the footing of his bed, threw it over his shoulder hanging it on his back, then exited his quarters and the Desert Palace itself. He continued walking until he reached the boundaries of his city, which was fenced off by a small border, distinguishing normal Si Wong Desert land from his tribe's city. The entire desert itself was metaphorically Kuja's due to the fact that he and his warriors had conquered all other tribes in the desert, assembled them as one, and occupied the land as the authority through the Si Wong. As he walked in the direction of the supposed man reclining in the sand, he began to notice a figure lying on a peak of sand not too far off. Kuja took in a deep breath and submerged himself in the sand beneath him.

He began to literally swim in the sand, for this way he was sheltered from the heat while simultaneously traveling at a quicker rate than walking. Within just over a minute, he was drawing in on the man. He popped up out of the sand, inhaled a large capacity of air, and bended the excess sand upon his body to return to the ground. Now that he could breath again, he exhaled, inhaled, etc. until his breathing pattern returned to the norm. Following this, he proceeded to ascend up the dune until he neared the man. Now around 5 feet from him, Kuja removed a small canvas of water from his belt and dropped it upon the man's chest.

Kuja let out a quiet yet resounding, "Wake up." as the pouch filled with water plopped onto the torso of the man.

Zai had been enjoying the red glow of the sun casting light through his eyelid, the growing warmth of the desert was beginning to reach its scorching levels of brilliant heat most thought first of a desert before the cool nights. The man welcomed the heat, as it began to dry his skin, chapping his lips and draining his pores of moisture. Heat exhaustion would be a strange, unkindly death for an atoned warrior, but it was not his nature to mind the manner of his death, only to expect it. After all, his hand had failed to end one last life, so what worry that the desert take him instead.

Something prodded at Zai's senses though, his acute attention of the earth wasn't quite on his mind, but even subconsciously he felt the shifting sand. "A wind greets every soldier's death... No... Terrible last words." But as the red glow of the sun was blocked in a shadow, it was a deal more than a stray wind; a man stood over the fading life of a man that was Zai. A splash of water on the hidden wound of his chest, then the thunk of a all-too-heavy-seeming pouch of water as it fell the hole in his chest.

"Wake up," a voice of contrary quiet loudness spoke as pain shot through Zai's numbing body.

The pain didn't make him groan or move, only exhale heavily. He didn't feel it, but more blood came out than air. Had he not been breathing the whole time? He was curious to this, as the blood seemed partly aged, coagulating in the dryness of his parched throat. He began truly breathing then, no more blood as his single visible eye lulled open, observing the well-muscled man near him. "If I..." He didn't manage much more -he didn't really want to- but something willed him to prop himself on an elbow, letting the pouch roll off to the side slowly.

His torso elevated from the sand, it was obvious some blood had pooled, and dried, in the sand below him. If he'd moved at all since being inflicted the hole in his abdomen, there was no other blood around to show it.

As if by instinct, Zai caught the water before it hit the ground, hand unusually quick and dextrous for a dying warrior. But it seems he was surprised from his own action, merely staring at the pouch a moment before gazing to the man of the desert. The pain was his only heed that his was no mere heat mirage or illusion of death. Though a large part of him wished it was.

With a sigh, he let fate choose for him, sipping some of the water, letting it rehydrate his digestive track en route to his stomach. He knew what happened to the dehydrated who drank too quickly. And he had little strength to deal with it. "From whom the blessings of water come." A strange thing to say, delirious perhaps; it didn't even seem like a question so much as a statement.

Kuja Sakaiza

The man obviously appeared to be nearly delirious from the the factors of the heat and also the nearing of death. However, Kuja recognized that this man was injured, perhaps fatally. As he ascended from his slumber on the silky sand, the man left behind a pool of scarlet, red blood which tarnished the sand it resided on. Eyeing this, Kuja stepped towards the man and paced around him to see if any wounds were visible upon his flesh. The only sight that Kuja could view on the body of the man was blood, which would possibly shelter any scars that the man actually has. Further observations allowed Kuja to notice a rather large, burdensome hole in the abdominal region of the man. He gasped thinking to himself, "How could he withstand such a wound and be able to constrict the pain he experienced without much expression on his face?"

"I'm Kuja," he said in response to the man's inquiry. "What the fuck happened to you? Do you need some assistance?" the staggered Kuja could not stand to see a man suffer. He never made one suffer in his life, for he felt as if the world was overwhelmed by an eternal force of punishment that each individual lived daily. He would much rather end the life of a person rather than force them to experience an ongoing pain. "Listen man, you need help."

[It's fine. I'm not posting long, myself. Just don't have the creative energies to back it, not really due to business elsewhere.]

"Kuja." He really didn't know what else to say of the man's name. In fact, it never once occurred to him to introduce himself-- not surprising given the circumstances. He uttered out on short, trembled breaths, "Kuja bore... The gift of life... To a man who... Needed death... Yeah..." It took him several moments to realize he was being asked another question, a difficult one to answer in his state. Would he earn death or sympathy for telling the whole truth, or the scorn of an idiot, perhaps? Maybe he could just roll over and try again-- at this thought he lost strength in his arm once more, falling back onto the sand.

A half-truth would do, spoken in the same delirium. Perhaps he already thought he was dead. "A man travels the desert... And falls upon... A twisting sword.. The wound.. Refuses to bleed now..." Indeed a sword had gone through his chest, just below the sternum. From the looks of it, the blade had been twisted on the return out f his body, to leave a bleeding wound. Not strong enough of a twist, it seemed. Indeed, Zai had failed to dispatch himself; he was not one for self-harm, and in his unsteady emotions he missed anything fatal by a mile. Even managed to slide between the diaphragm and the stomach. Nothing but flesh, muscle and vessels had been torn, so the wound was surprisingly ineffective.

"Anatomy of the human body... So fickle... I should be disappointed in my shoddy work. I was an easy target." He thought to himself, not realizing he half-mumbled the words aloud, barely audible.

Had Zai been more able, perhaps he'd have a snarky comment or two for the situation, or perhaps he did after all, "If I'm dead... You're a wretch of an angel.. demon.. Death..... You look hellish... I'll go with demon..."

Kuja Sakaiza

Kuja was rather insulted by the comment made by the wounded man. He had been associated with being, in a nutshell, a harbinger of death, the messenger of the devil, or even a fallen angel. What Kuja was, was much more simple that what the man had related him with. Kuja was the incarnation of perfection. Although he possessed quite an amount of arrogance, he recognized his own failures, and bettered himself from them. As he extended an offer of his aid to the dying man, Kuja was greeted with a tarnishing insult. The audacity, the defiance, to enter the land of a Lord, stain his beloved granules, and then insult him in front of his face. However, Kuja recognized that the man was suffering, therefore he was possibly delirious. The short but crisp elaboration of what was harming him provided Kuja with enough knowledge to be able to exact his measures to heal the man.

"You're not okay. But if I am a devil, than more than likely you do not seek any assistance. To honor you, would you prefer me to save your, or allow you a death in this lifetime?" Kuja asked the man. He wondered if the pride of the man prevented him from seeking any aid. He recognized that as a man of valor himself, he knew that he wouldn't allow anyone else to offer him assistance, therefore he asked if the man even desired any.
