Kotonaru of the Sidestep (Waterbender) - WIP

Personality: Many people would mistake Kotonaru for a rather dull and unamused character, favoring the personality exhibited by his ancestors. While in a way this is true, he truly does have a handful of energy when needed. This energy usually comes in the form of speech, as he thoroughly enjoys giving long explanations and telling stories. This is not due to any conceited love of his own voice, however. It is more so a trait gained from his father, as he enjoys turning everything into a tale to be told. He is also known at times to be a slight smart ass in his replies, though in a playful way, when he chooses to be. Though a very intelligent individual, you could not expect him to be the type to calculate everything in a cold and merciless way. He is the type to divulge himself within every bit of knowledge he can, and seek out new information.

Among his group of friends, Kotonaru is capable of shirking off his lax side to become serious if needed, though it is likely not. In his own way, he tends to try and befriend everyone, having no shame whatsoever, as he is naturally absentminded when it comes to formalities, or boundaries. He is the type you could find swaying through your house quietly as he awaits you to come home, having no possible clue what is wrong with it. When it comes to fighting, Kotonaru is not overly battle-hungry, nor does he seek out people to fill without reason. Instead he enjoys taking his time in a fight, and learning of the other opponents fighting style through their 'spar', as he considers them. He has a unique fondness for people who use weapons, however, as well as for people who fight through the use of unique means.

Abilities: At an early age, Kotonaru was raised by his father to hunt within the snowy terrain of the Southern Water Tribe. Focusing on a style which would better benefit the family, he was trained to strike within tactical strikes, rather than a fancy style which would be used against other Benders. Through these years, he would effectively be trained in the same manner all water benders were, with the exception of his state of mind. Though many of his tribe beloved their style of Water Bending, Kotonaru found it rather disheartening and a failshow to the natural ability itself. He would become obsessed with the capability to manipulate tools possibly with his element, though many shrugged it off as an incapable talent, as it fell within the realm of Air Bending.  However, it was this state of mind that allowed Kotonaru the capability to invent a unique way of fighting.

Setting off at an early age with nothing but the hoodie on his back, and a small collection of knives, he would make his way to the Earth Kingdom, and find a master who could teach him the Way of the Sword. His training honed his fondness of the tools and allowed him to create a better concept of the bodies movement, which he would begin imagining through the use of Water Bending. The first series of experiments would begin with his master helping him embed a vial of water within the hilt of his Wakizashi, which would unknowingly become one of his finest tools. Manipulating the water through quick twitches of his finger, he would create a style that thrusted water through the empty pockets of the vial to allow further control. Using a rush upward, would in sense allow him to spin the sword rapidly, as well as the opposing force downward.

This manipulation would also be seen within the usage of his boomerang, which is lined with three nearly hollow pipes. By placing a small bit of water within these pipes, Kotonaru can disrupt their placement to direct the boomerang in ways that could be seen as unnatural. Though it can simply be considered one of his natural ingenius talents. This is not to say however that he is lacking within close-range exercise, as he can perform splendidly in close-quarters combat as well, through the use of his tools. It is not uncommon of him to waterbend with one hand while he swings a tool with another, giving him increased momentum in his strikes, as well as possibly adding a slight increase to speed from the force. It is through these collective Water-Bending tool methods that he gains his superiority in combat, making up for his distaste in performing regular Water Bending Techniques.

Appearance: Kotonaru has a rather aratic look to him, which allows him to pull off a style which most would consider strange. Though a slightly heightened man, he somehow is capable of blending through most crowds with his unsaturated look. His eyes are usually held within a light fall, peering over everything with a look which is of utmost uninterest, despite the situation he is in.  He usually can hold a poker face, as a natural habit, though a times it will curl into a smirk, usually to the left portion of his face. Though one could not accurately describe Kotonaru without a cigarette in his mouth, and the slight fuzz which accompanies the strap of his jaw, and neck, with it being less thick along the upper lip, and down the edges of his mouth. It is hard to describe his side-burns however, as his hair hangs down in the front of his ears, and easily abscures them. His long locks usually hang briefly between both eyes, though they are parted in such a manner that they would not curtain his range of vision. Behind his head, he keeps his hair pulled within a tight ponytail, which becomes spikey behind him to a degree, extending only a few inches past the black band.

His attire is rather simple however, falling into what most may look at as strange, though it is incredibly relaxed. He has a very simply white shirt which is loosened at the main cuff, offering a more desirable fitting for him as it would not rub against his neck. As it comes to the lower portion of his abdomen, it seems to become slightly shrunken, though this is likely due to it being tucked into his obi. Though it is to be said that you should not expect him to keep his shirt on, as he believes it to be much too hot, after spending years within the cold of the Southern Water Tribe. For pants he adorns a simple pair of sweat-pants/slacks which extend to his ankle, with a darkened blue hue. They tend to be rather drooped in the crotch, allowing him more room once again to move around. He is usually barefoot, which offers very little to describe, besides his masculine toes. - At the top of his sweatpants is an obi which is white in tone, and bears a matching blue strip horizontally through the center to his sweatpants. On the left side of the Obi is a ring which he keeps his Wakizashi attached to, and on the back his Boomerang is often tucked into a specially designed pocket.

Materials: Hardened Wood, with iron tubes throughout it's curve, filled partially with water.
Description: The Genzoku is Kotonaru's main tool within combat, having been specially crafted with iron tubing throughout it that hold small portions of water in each row to allow further manipulation. The boomerang itself functions naturally the same as any other boomerang by physical manners, though it is further used with his Water Bending to perform in outstanding ways.
