Espa is extremely loyal to anyone she considers worthy. She's not really a leader, leaving that to her older twin sister, Umbra. She's not extremely strong but she refuses to back down when faced with adversity, especially when her sister is by her side. She tries to avoid hurting others, though sometimes it is necessary or happens accidentally. She finds wounds and blood to be a little frightening, though she won't scream or cry when they occur.

She's extremely in tune with the world, often zoning out for minutes on end. Her excuse for these blank moments is that she was "listening to them speak". She uses the term 'them' vaguely. She's said to be mysterious, although this is usually because she doesn't trust others enough to let them know her. Her dreams are very important to her, which in more than one instance have helped her prevent disaster.

Espa is extremely observant of her surroundings, and through that she tends to get a "vibe" about places or people, either resulting in her being okay with their presence or feeling skittish until they're gone. She expresses them to her sister sometimes, but usually leaves them to herself as she feels like she's being paranoid most of the time. [People get feelings about places all the time. Don't tell me you've never walked into a room or met someone and gotten a feeling.]

While a follower, Espa is not a spineless twit either. Espa is extremely content with who she is, not willing to change for anyone else; she stands up for herself because of her pride in who she is. That being said, she isn’t the most confident woman in the world either; Umbra is the only person who truly knows of her deep insecurities, but Espa would rather die than let them show.

Love, to Espa, is considered the answer to everything, while death seems to be the end of it all. She doesn’t make promises of never leaving, because she’s not always able to protect those she cares for. While not afraid of dying, she does what she can to prevent any situation which could possibly—in ANY way—cause death. This can be a little irritating because she tends to see disaster everywhere she goes.


Espa is very skilled with airbending, but she’s not very strong. Whether this is due to her non-bending ancestry or her un-forceful personality, she is not sure. Her bending is hard to maintain for long periods of time, and building up the power to do something of real damage takes a very long time for her.

Because she’s not a strong bender, Espa enjoys using quick, tiny air currents when fighting. Her fighting style seems to fit her personality; she’s very evasive and quick, and you often lose track of where she is until it’s too late.

She’s an extremely fast learner as well; seeing someone perform the same action two or three times allows her to copy the action with near perfect accuracy. This is especially convenient when around airbenders or those with unorthodox fighting styles, because she can quickly copy or predict what her opponent will do.

She likes to experiment with more uncommon branches of airbending—soundbending is something that she uses to make others go deaf for seconds at a time, so that she might move quickly without them hearing where she is so she can attack and run.

Other than this, she knows a few basics about hand-to-hand that Umbra taught her in case she couldn’t bend. She basically knows what stance to get in, how to punch someone without breaking her thumbs, and how to kick without busting her toes.

Espa is pretty, to say in the least; her large eyes are sapphire blue in color, surrounded by a pointed face. Her lavender hair is mid-calf length, and she usually keeps it pulled up in pig-tails. Her nose is absolutely tiny; her mouth is neither thin nor full, and a barely noticeable pink shade brings them out from her pale face.

Espa’s favorite color, lavender, is something that is expressed in most of her clothes. Wearing a skimpy belly-top, she exposes a flat, toned stomach. Her arms are covered by large sleeves, and a little ruby sits at the nape of her neck. She’s fairly thin, almost to be considered underweight, and her hip bones jut out just slightly.

She pairs her skimpy top with a long skirt, lavender and white in color. Her hands are gloved and her feet are adorned in little ballet flats with small ribbons tying them at her ankles.

Espa was born to two nonbending parents on Ember Island. She was born a few hours after her sister, when dawn began to approach. Growing up, she was a quiet, solitary young girl who often enjoyed having time to herself to think and explore personal growth. She grew up relying upon her stronger older sister, which often caused her parents to fear that she would never be independent.

Upon reaching the age of four, her family discovered that she was a bender, and had probably been for many months. Because she wasn't very strong, no one really noticed when the grass flattened with random breezes or the stove fire went out at the strangest times.

When they did notice though, it came as quite a shock. For at least three generations bending was not seen in the bloodlines of their family; their joy at this was impressive, and they immediately found an airbending teacher for her. She progressed well, although her bending was not strong and she was very timid with her abilities.

As time went on her fascination with the art of bending began to grow, and bit by bit she began to explore the various branches of airbending. She grew less timid about using the skill, a bit more confident. She studied ways to make her bending stronger, and while improvement was found, it wasn't by much.

She and her sister grew up pretty normally in a four room apartment above their father's inn, happy with what they had and never really seeming to want for much. Espa took up the study of sound and lightbending around the age of 14, when she passed into the intermediate stage of her training.

Years were devoted to her education until finally, at 19, she became an expert airbender and an intermediate sound/lightbender. She is still developing her skills in the less known areas of airbending, and seems to be making great progress.

Right before Umbra and Espa's twentieth birthdays, they decided to leave home and adventure (this was more Umbra's doing, but Espa was happy to join in). Now at the age of 22, they have done quite well for themselves and once more do not seem to be in want of much.

Through their travels, Espa has made many acquaintances, though she still awaits to find someone she could spend her life with. It appears that her objectives in life are to master airbending, and to find someone to love for the rest of her days. And then of course, treasure hunting and adventuring with her sister although her delight of these things are less known to the world.

They occasionally go back to Ember Island to visit their parents and tell them the tales of their adventurous times, as well as to see old friends and teachers from their childhoods. The children of the Island are often excited to see the twins' return for a week or two, as the stories of their travels are the stuff legends are made of. 

Choosing the path of exploration, the two travel from place to place and revel in experiences new and old, collecting valuable treasures and memories with each passing day.

Hm, not bad. I'll approve you if you remove the part about her having 'intuition', because that's far too easy to exploit.

hm. I don't remember how we dealt with soundbending, mostly because it seems very easy to exploit. the foresight thing and such ("intuition") does sort of pose it similar to bloodbending, insomuch that it opens doors to metagaming (and sort of then has that "if we let one person do it..." sort of vibe).

But even if soundbending is done (I am frankly okay with it if it is used prudently), 'lightbending' is kinda pushing it into non-canon territory, and I'd rather not stray into "light/darkbending territory even remotely. I don't mind it in my books (long story), but it has no place in the ATLA world in my humble opinion.

Other than those things though, the rest looked good. And of course, you know me, Noko. I'm pretty easy to compromise with and such. (I would have said this in chat when you were here, but you left so darn quickly! xU)
