Sayuri

Sayuri was yet again returning home after another day of work at the apothecary. She found the work tiring but highly rewarding, after all, she got to help many people and she slowly improved her healing abilties. She arrived back home, to push open the door. Both of her parents had returned home the other night, for better or for worse, and they had brought her brother back with them. Hmm, oh dear. She smiled and walked into the kitchen to greet her mother, and too hang up her satchel.

She walked back into the living room, to see her father at the fireplace, she smiled and went to sit in one of the chairs near him. She sat down, and pulled out a book, and started to read up on medicinal herbs. She assumed her brother was upstairs in his room, she smiled yet again and started to read.

Work work work. Boo! How boring. Her assumption was correct, although after a while of peace and quiet, for her it was soon over. Kiyoto was all of a sudden right beside her...

"Whatcha reading sis?" He asked, being his irritating and curious self. He had came down to find something to do. And he sure as hell found it. He quickly sat on the arm if the char, glancing to his father. He ignored it and kept persisting, before outright peeking at the book. "Ooooh..." He had a look of mischief upon his face, aiming to irritate Sanyuri, quite clearly.

He wasn't as covered up as usual because he was indoors.

Sayuri's eye twitched as her brother came towards her, she sighed slightly. He instantly began to pester her, which was to be expected, he was her younger brother after all... It was still really irritating. She pretended to carry on reading, while her hovered over her. Her father merely looked up and chuckled at her, which just made her more irritated.

There was a pot of perfectly placed water next to the fire, she smiled. She put the book down and bended the water straight at her brother, presumably pushing him to the floor next to her, considering he was sat right on the arm of the chair. She froze the water around his feet to the floor, giggling.

"Shh, reading, stay put"

She picked up her book and began to read again, occasionally flicking an eye over at her brother, their father merely watched, smiling at the sibling love.

And so he kept pestering her upon realizing his father wasn't too bothered. In fact it seemed he found it funny. Enjoying that fact, he continued, before suddenly he was soaked and frozen on the floor. It took him a few seconds to realize just what happened. "Daaaad!" He loudly said, before noticing he wasn't doing anything. He probably did deserve it after all. He muttered something about dumb sisters to himself, and folded his arms. Returning the glances every so often. "Sooo... Could you unfreeze me?" He asked, putting on a nixe sweet tone. He didn't dare say please though. Oh no.

Sayuri smiled at her father, who slipped her a subtle wink from the eye she could see. She turned to look at her brother, who had folded his arms in protest. She giggled yet again before pretending to read. The Tanaka family all loved each other very much, even if they didn't show it all of the time. Sayuri waited for a while before he asked her in such an innocent way if she would let him go. She closed her book and turned to him, smiling.

"Okay, but only if you say please

It would be amusing, watching the confrontation go on with her brother. Her father smiled yet again, but hid it with his reading material. Their mother was oblivious in the kitchen, still preparing her food.

He hoped that would work, folded arms remaining folded. He glanced to his sister upon gaining a response. His eyes lit up slightly before he frowned. "..." He grumbled to himself, not prepared to say it, thinking of anyway out of it. "But..." He got a slight idea. Quickly putting his hands in between his legs, he fidgeted a bit. "I have to go to the bathroom." He said. He was a very, very convincing liar when he wanted to be. His sister rarely saw through it, but every odd time, she did. Or just assumed he was lying anyway, he'd done it so much before.

Sayuri bended the water from around her brothers feet, not really listening to him, more absorbed in her book, however she did make the water push him towards the downstairs bathroom. When he was there, the water floated back to Sayuri and went into the pot. She smiled slightly and continued to read her book. It was a good book, and she was enjoying it. She wasn't really taking much note of what was around her, but she was slightly aware.

Of course, being a total liar, he casually came back out after two minutes, and went to sit on a spare chair, resting his head on his hands a bit in boredom. "...Soooo... I'm bored." He said. "Can you show me more waterbending stuff, Sayuri?" He asked. He casually leaned back on the chair, fiddling around with the top he was wearing. He gave a glance to his sister, who was most likely still reading. He looked towards the pot of water and thought to himself. He was prepared to actually try what his sister did to him if she didn't. Keyword there was TRY.

Sayuri groaned and looked up from her book, not closing it but squinting at her brother. She sighed at him. He had that look in his eyes that suggested he was going to do something... She giggled at the thought of him trying to waterbend, she didn't mean to be cruel but it was amusing nevertheless. She looked at the pot of water and froze it, just to be sure he wouldn't try anything if he did try something. She looked over at him again, and frowned, trying to conceal a smile.

"Brother, I am awfully busy trying to study up on my healing, ask father, or go find a waterbending scroll"

She knew her father wouldn't, he would slip up to his office and hide pretending to do work. Their mother was a non-bender, so there was no help there. She giggled and hid herself behind the book again. She was actaully studying, as a matter of fact, so there.

And so he mumbled a bit in irritation, before putting his hand out and attempting to lift the water out of the pot, only to find that it was frozen, which he couldn't do a thing about, being inexperienced in the art of bending. He sighed deeply, before getting into a laying position on his chair. "Why are you always so BUSY now?" He irritantly asked. He hated it so much when she did this, it was so recent now, and almost always. He rolled his eyes a bit, his hair falling down his face due to gravity and that. He yawned, pretending to be tired, before his eyes slightly lit up once again. He got up off his chair, and headed upstairs into his room. He quickly threw on his thicker, and more covering clothing. He slightly smirked, heading back down the stairs with a slight grin.

"Alright, fine. I'll go look for a scroll. Alone." He stated putting emphasis on the 'Alone' part, hoping that his father or mother would make Sayuri follow after him at some point. And so, he quickly slipped out of the doorway before anyone could protest.

He casually went to stroll outside, and then headed off. He looked around the area, and pretended to search for scrolls. He was sort of doing so, but he prefered his sister to actually teach him. He hated using scrolls because they were too... still. And so, he wandered over to a small body of water and tried to lift that up instead, putting a lot of focus and concentration into it. Eyes tightly closed, he moved his hands in the pattern which moved water freely, like a nice gentle flow.

Bit by bit, step by step, the first thing his sister actually taught him. ...He wasn't doing well, to say the least. He got the water off the floor for a split second before it fell back down. Shrugging, he gave up, and went back to pretending to search for a scroll. He kept looking behind him to see if Sayuri was anywhere nearby.

Sayuri

Sayuri had indeed been busy with work a lot more recently, but she was growing up and she needed to get used to the world outside these four walls. Her healing was her career, and the only career she wanted, it was natural for her too study like this. She sighed slightly. Sayuri watched her brother head upstairs, and return clothed as if to go outside, she then watched him do just that... It was strange, they had a library in the house... With scrolls there. She sighed and looked up at her father "Well?" She said. Her father merely sighed as he watched the boy leave and said. "I know he is interfering, but can you please bring him back?" She sighed and put her book down, heading outside.

Compared to others, Sayuri didn't usually bundle up when she went outside. She wore the same thing all of the time. She followed her brothers footsteps to where ever he was heading. She found him stood by a body of water yet again trying to bend something. She smiled slightly, even though she was annoyed at him. She walked up behind him and spoke

"What have I told you, it isn't just in mental thought, movement is part of it as well, waterbenders are the most adaptable type of benders, but we still have too follow the basic bending rules. Watch, and really watch"

She walked next to him, and began to bend. She moved the water like a snake up her arm, before making it dance around her brother and lick him on the nose with it's watery snake tongue. She moved her arms as if to correspond with the snakes movements, which of course was key to bending. Sayuri had a look of general ease of her face. As you became a better bender, it required less effort to concentrate, she looked and nodded at her brother, before dropping the water back into the hole it had just been in.

"Feel the bending, and try and lift a small sphere of water"

Bingo. He got exactly what he wanted. He consealed a grin, before watching his sister, intrigued. He watched the way she moved the water, taking in the information best he could. He wanted to be a bender like her, heck, even better than that if it was possible. He loved to outmatch her any way he could find. He then felt the snake, watching as it twirled around him at first, before it licked him. He gave a slight squeak in surprise, before seeing it go back in to the water. "That was awesome! How long did you take to learn that?" He asked before looking towards the water.

He frowned a bit, not wanting to mess up now. Putting his hand above the water, before acting out a grasp, looking focused. He moved his arm up a bit, cringing slightly. A bit of water rose out. It wasn't perfectly spherical, but it was up. He looked amazed to be doing it, before looking to his sister. He dropped it by mistake, it splashing below his waist. He gave a slight shriek, flushing red. "C-Could you do something about this?" His focus was completely gone. He looked both frustrated, and embarrassed.

Sayuri

Sayuri tried to hold the laugh back, she really did, but it was just too funny. She burst out laughing, actually crying slightly, before managing to compose herself with a slight cough, wiping her eyes, smiling. Oh her brother was amusing, he always tried to outdo her, but he would not manage if he kept his heart focused on just beating her, no, he had to really want it for himself as a person as well. He was too young however, he would grasp bit as he grew older. However, in truth, Sayuri had made her first water snake at eleven, only a year older than he was... He had time yet though, thankfully. She smiled at her brother, bending the water out of his clothing, before gracefully returning it to the water body. She smiled and spoke, leaning down to look him in the eye.

"Don't worry, you will get it eventually"

She smiled and attempted to tame his hair, briefly, before sighing and giving up. She stood up and walked back towards the house, beckoning her brother too follow. Sayuri had noted the incoming clouds, and she didn't fancy being caught in a blizzard. She smiled at her little brother before retracing her steps to the house, assuming her brother would follow.

He looked down a bit, looking extremely nervous, scarlet red. He was grateful for her removing the water from his clothes. He gave a slight forced giggle. "Wha-You really think that?" He looked quite relieved to hear that. He quickly changed tone. "I mean, of course I will!" He stated trying to act all tough and independant. He was the exact opposite.

He smiled a bit, before looking up. "..." He wasn't a fan of freezing. He noticed his sister signalling him to follow. He followed after sheepishly. He normally would be a bit more reluctant. Although, the incoming blizzard clouds and the fact she just prevented him from looking like he wet himself added up. He decided to follow. "Is dad mad?" He asked, looking at her, his hair once again flopping onto his face. He blew it out of the way with his breath, keeping eye contact with Sayuri, staying really close. Blizzards did that to him.

Sayuri turned too look at her brother, considering him for a moment. Yes, he was growing up. He was trying to be independent but he was not quite there yet. He was a bird, ready to try out his new wings. She smiled slightly at the thought, continuing to trudge through the snow. She saw the house in the distance, then the brother asked about their father. Sayuri smiled and spoke gently, still walking towards their home.

"No, he is amused more than anything, he just wants us too hurry back, mother will have finished the food, come along"

She picked up her pace slightly, but not so much as too make her brother struggle. She was still smiling when she walked into the house. Their mother called "Foods ready! And take your shoes off" She obliged and went to sit down at the table, assuming her brother would follow.

Kiyoto breathed a sigh of relief. He hated his father being angry. A lot. He got quite worked up at times. As rare as it was, it was always extreme. He then noticed her pick up the pace. He used his agility to speed up, almost matching her perfectly. If he was taller he would, but unfortunately he wasn't.

Upon arriving home, he was pantng a bit.

Immediately kicking his shoes off at his mother's request, he scurried to the table, taking a seat. Giving a slight smirk to his sister as he did so, he tapped his hands on the table over and over to some kind of rythym, waiting.

Sayuri waited more patiently than her tapping little brother. She smiled at the silence, well, what would be silence of the house. It was pleasant, and had a nice general air to it. Their father walked towards the two of them, and took his place at the head of the table, typical. She smiled at him and he winked back, before turning to her brother. "So, did we enjoy our little stroll?" he folded his arms, but had a kind smile on his face.

Their mother joined them next, serving them a rare treat. She had cooked them arctic hen, which was a rare water tribe delicacy, Sayuri wondered what the special event was. She smiled and murmured her thanks, before digging in. The food was wonderful, and expertly prepared, their mother had clearly been working on this for a while. Sayuri watched her brother, still wondering why they were having such an expensive dish too eat.

The silence tore away at the younger male. He had a look of extreme irritation on his face. Of all things he hated, silence was a main thing. Despite the fact a storm was looming closer, it was still pretty much dead silence. He wanted to break the silence. In fact, he opened his mouth to speak until his father beat him to it.

And so Kiyoto gave an unsure glance to his father. "Uhm..." He scratched the back of his head. "It was... okay I guess, eheh." He said. "I did some bending with water too, it was awesome!"

It seemed much like he was about to go on a rant about how epic he was, until suddenly the platter was placed before him. Kiyoto raised an eyebrow, about as puzzled as his sister seemed to be, returning the gaze, before looking to their mother, being the first to ask.

"What's with the expensive food? I mean, I'm not complaining, duh! But, uhm, we only ever have this on a special event, right?" He gave a confused look to his mother, waiting for an answer. Taking off the gloves he wore almost everywhere, he placed them on his lap. He was hungry, but he was getting to the bottom of this first.

Sayuri

Normally, Sayuri was let in on secrets like this, but this time she was completely in the dark. The expensive food, both of her parents happy, what could this mean? She to, like her brother, was happy about it but it was all very confusing. She looked at her parents, raising another quizzical eyebrow. Her parents smiled at each other, and their mother walked over to their father, her put an arm around her shoulders and spoke to them, happily "We think your mother might be having another child, a sibling for you, however it is not confirmed yet, just speculation. Also we are thinking of going on holiday if it is true"

Wow, that was a lot to take in, in a few short moments. Sayuri was unsure what to think at first, but was ultimately happy about it. Yes, another sibling would be wonderful, however she worried about how her brother would react, the holiday was a bonus however, she simply smiled at her parents and spoke.

"Congratulations, the both of you, really"

Silence. Pure silence. At least from the younger one. "..." His eyes were just wide. A lot to take in. Another kid. Someone younger than him. Someone to actually set an example for! Amazing!

However, the attention he got would drop. A lot. And he'd be expected to do things a lot more!

His appetite was gone with the wind, but he didn't hesitate to smile, to be polite. "Uhm... yeah... me too." He said, pushing his plate forward a bit. "I'm not really hungry anymore." He said, before pushing his hair out of his eyes. "...So you're not SURE yet?"

His eyes did light up a bit. He wasn't really ready for another sibling... his sister was enough. And the fact that so much would change wasn't a good thing to him.

But he couldn't just be ignorant, that would be horrible to them.

"HOLIDAY?! Where, where where where?!" He asked, jumping up immediately. He wanted to travel so badly, to see outside of the tribe for once. It was something he'd always wanted to do! All negative thoughts were gone now, replaced with excitement. Still shocked, but more excited.

Sayrui to wanted to know where their family would be going. She did however notice the look her brother had for a moment, and frowned slightly. Yes, he still needed the attention, but her parents would still treat them all equally, if they did have another sibling. She looked at her mother and waited for her to speak. She did so, smiling at her children "Yes, we are unsure yet, but it is very possible. And we were thinking Ember Island. It is nice up there, and your father and I love it"

Sayuri noticed the smile her mother gave their father, and this made Sayuri smile. Like her brother, Sayuri had never been outside of the tribe, it would be interesting. Smiling still, Sayuri began to eat the rare meal, which was cooked to perfection.

With a glance to his sister, Kiyoto followed her example and gave thanks for the meat, and had a quick bit of the meat; wanting to feel hungry again.

Success.

He began to pick up the pace a bit, on the verge of crossing the line between acceptable and animal like.

He had all but one comment. "This tastes great!" Before nom nom nom. He was by far the quickest eater in the family, he was almost done!

Sayuri

Their mother slid of their fathers knee onto her own chair, and began to eat the meal as well. They all ate in comfortable silence. Kiyoto of course was shoveling it down, Sayuri merely sighed as she watched the carnivore eat, honestly, he had no etiquette. Sayuri ate like a proper lady, and her parents ate with manners as well. Light chit-chat was thrown around, nothing to serious, and most of it boring things like baby names and things like that, nothing to serious, something you would easily forget.

Sayuri thought, while eating. She would be eighteen soon... Old enough to marry, ugh. Being practically the most beautiful person in the village, she would be bombarded with requests. Her parents had warned her about this, but it was still a saddening thought. She smiled though, and continued to eat, enjoying the comfort that family can provide.

Kiyoto

Kiyoto's mind was quite difficult to actually follow as it drifted from place to place like a long lost balloon filled with helium. One minute he could be in the greatest mood ever, the next? Not so great. But he was valmly thinking to himself (Despite tearing the food apart) and imagining the holiday... Aah, lovely image. After a few minutes he was finished and he respectfully waited for the others to either finish or say he could go.

Taking a small glance to the room around him and listening to the sounds, a blizzard. He scratched his head a bit trying not to look all too worried. The storm did sound loud but for a brief second everyone was silent and the sounds were dully audible, before conversation carried on.

Casually , Kiyoto drummed his fingers along the surface of the table... Boredom was slowly kicking in over the shock and excitement. Though, he kept thinking before asking the inevitable: "So what now?"

Sayuri

Sayuri noted the time, after a moment. It was getting later, and closer to her brothers bedtime. She giggled slightly, before looking up. Her parents and her had all finished their meals in the polite time. She looked up and smiled at her brother who was finished, and getting bored. She looked at her parents who excused the both of them. Sayuri picked up her book from the place she had left it and headed upstairs. She walked down the hallway towards the small library their family kept. She opened the door and slipped inside.

The room was not lavishly decorated, but nice nonetheless. Some comfortable chairs doted the room, and a desk as well. There were many books and scrolls around the room, on their respective shelves. She sat down at a chair, and continued to read. There was a small fireplace in the corner, she smiled and continued to read.
