Questions about Air Nomads and aftermath of the war

Soo what happened to Aang after Zuko was assassinated? In canon he spearheaded the restoration of the air temples, and he was actually the last airbender. According to the main storyline, its been a little over 80 years. That's only enough time for a few generations and the genocide must still be pretty apparent at the temples, so what's the status on the restoration of the airbender population after the war? What happened to the other canon characters? It says everything went back to normal - the war went on for a century. No one remembers what "normal" is. If the Harmony Restoration Movement never happened, then what are the Earth Kingdom's attitudes toward the fire colonies and mixed families?

To answer the base question, Aang actually lived to the exact same age on New Chapters that he did canonically. [Perhaps it is coincidence, but Korra is 17 in 170 ASC, meaning she was born in 153 ASC. Zulera is 30 in 183 ASC (NC's current year), which in turn would make her born in 153 ASC as well. so... nifty, eh?]
New Chapters Canon has it that since the Air Nomads were... well, nomads, that the Fire Nation did not manage to exterminate them at all, and so similar to the pockets of sky bison that were found after the 100-year war, there were pockets of airbenders that were found the same way. Aang still did go about restoring the 4 temples, and so most of them are back to (most of) their former glory.

If it says the war went on for a century (unless you're calking about the canonical 100-year war), then that is incorrect and point out where I said that so I can strike that atrocity from the world. there was about 79ish years of peace or so for the most part. There is some enmity between the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation, but even though the harmony restoration movement failed, most of the world managed to get along.

when Firelord Novai tried to conquer the world again, he was stopped at the Air Temples by the Tekina-Kaze (since the Earth Kingdom allied itself with the Air Temples to defend them), and on the mainland by the forces of Queen Meili. He was essentially annihilated, although the Fire Nation still has plenty of strength (the technological advantage, however, is much smaller now due to progress in the Water Tribes and Earth Kingdom). the current firelord isn't some warmongerer, and so all is well in the world.

Meili does have something of an underground empire and is rumored to have one hell of an army across her continent at her disposal, but since it is peace time, no one is really interested to see if that is true or not. For the most part, the 4 nations are back to getting along (to the point where travel is not restricted at all), and any issues between them are more of a personal level between individuals.

Awesome. And yes I was referribg to the hundred year war. Soo...are the Fire nation colonies still there in the earth kingdom? Because in The Promise, even though there were mixed families, the colonists were clearly oppressing and giving the bad jobs to the earth kingdom, so I would imagine that the failure of the harmony movement must have sparked even more tension.

yeah, the Fire Nation Colonies have been removed and/or re-integrated back into Earth Kingdom culture. This caused something of an exodus of Fire Nationers back to their homeland, but at the same time, multiculturalism began to blossom worldwide (except perhaps the Air Temples for basic reasons), and so there were more benders from each nation appearing in the Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and even the Water Tribes.

But yeah since the colonies are gone, there is no longer that Fire Nation prejudice against Earth Kingdomers in those regions, as they are back properly in Queen Meili's hands.

So the cultures of the different nations have opened up after the war? So mixed families are more tolerated?

much more so, as the histories of many characters on the site also indicate.
However, bending is still just one element (or 4 if you're Zuzu), and that's not about to change.
