Meeting an Acquaintance Empty

Shi-Hao Ni Kaihua

It had been a while since Isi had been 'working' for Shi-Hao, while they waited for the city planning to really take shape out in the desert. While the heiress didn't have any physical labor for her friend to do, she was teaching her some of the ins and outs of business as they went along, laying some foundations for future plans. Shi-Hao was very, very good at planning, after all.

Still, there was something that bothered her... Isi hadn't taken a single day off since they'd started. True, the work wasn't very demanding, but Shi-Hao wondered if the other girl ever wanted a little time to herself. She had been taking most mornings and evenings with her family - which was wonderful - but the young heiress still wanted to let her have some time to relax.

With those thoughts in mind, when the other young woman returned to the office from some task or other, to see what else needed doing, Shi-Hao asked her to sit down for a moment. "I had a quick question for you..." She began with a smile, clearly not upset or about to give Isi grief for anything, "Did you want to have the rest of the day off, today, just to relax? Maybe talk a walk or go into the city?"

Isikiro Sherazi Anazalrok

The work that Isikiro did for Shi was not exactly physically demanding, so she'd sometimes spend the late afternoons or early mornings working out to keep up her strength. Well, and because she was something of a busybody (read: workaholic), mostly out of habit. While that was not inherently bad, she didn't ever really give herself much free time other than a bit of allocated family time in the mornings and evenings.

She also enjoyed this line of work. Isi had long since stated that she wished to run or own a business someday, and Shi-Hao was making what had once just been a whimsical fantasy, closer and closer to becoming a reality now. Sure she was working 7 days a week, but at the same time, she had never really questioned it. Every morning, she was up and ready to help in whatever way she could.

Thus, when the question of a day off came up, she tilted her head a bit curiously.
"day... off?" raising a slightly confused eyebrow, she asked the question. " "Ah... sure, Ah guess... what d'ya do on a day off though?" That question alone should be enough to speak volumes about how much (or rather, how little) she knew about what a day off was. This lesson would not last nearly as long as the girly day they had had when Isi had first gotten the job, but a quick crash course would be helpful.

Shi-Hao Ni Kaihua

"Oh honey..." Shi-Hao began in concerned tones, before she could stop herself, her brows knitting together. Then, gathering her thoughts a little (as well as toning back on the sympathy), she began to explain; "Well, most people don't work seven days a week, unless they're struggling - like you had been - or running their own start-up business. Even I don't work every single day of the week, usually."

True, that week had technically been an exception, but only because she had visitors come in from the Fire Nation Captiol and had to play hostess - which was no fun for Shi-Hao at all. Thankfully that ordeal was over, though...

Continuing, she spread her hands in a general gesture, "You can do whatever you want on a day off... It's just a day where you don't have to work. Like I said, you could take a walk down into the city to do some shopping, or to walk in the park, or... whatever else. It's a day to relax." She didn't even go into the fact that most people got two of these days off every week, or that rich people generally had five or six of them per week.

Isikiro listened, and was honestly still rather surprised at the notion. But, perhaps it made sense a bit. "well... Ah kin work 7 days a week if y'need me to." she offered. Gone were the days of her gushing and such, but she was still grateful for Shi-Hao getting her back onto her feet. Well, and now she had accumulated a decent amount of wealth (at least to her standards, which, admittedly, were not very high. having two silver pieces (or of course, two gold pieces) to rub together was rich in her books), given that she only really spent money on food, the occasional clothes, and other simple necessities. She was certainly still not used to the idea of going above and beyond the necessities unless Shi-Hao was at her side.

"Ah... are y'sure then?" she asked, "Ah kin help y'more if y'need..."
but at the same time, seeing the look on Shi-Hao's face did rather silence Isikiro right quick--not out of fear, but out of what could only really be described as a profound understanding.
"Ah... Ah guess Ah'll go do that then." she smiled. clearly the idea of something as simple as a walk in the park did appeal to her, after all. Well, and maybe some shopping, depending on how much money she had (she had much more than she realized).

Standing, she offered Isi her hand, but when she took it, Isi instead pulled her into a firm but gentle hug. "thank-ee, Shi. y'really are th'best..." she didn't meant o try and flatter her like that, but she couldn't help it. She had done so much for the decrepitly poor and destitute young lady, and had truly managed to fix her life.

Other than that though, she was ready to say goodbye for the day with a promise to see her tomorrow, and was ready to face the town.

At the offer, Shi-Hao had shaken her head firmly, declining - though nicely as well. "You deserve a day off," She asserted to her friend, "You've been helping me a lot, whether you realize it or not, and I really appreciate that. So I want you to get your little butt out of my office and go enjoy yourself." She softened her words with a wink, hopefully showing that they were playful.

The hug, on the other had, practically made the young heiress melt. She returned it, wrapping her arms around the other girl and squeezing gently. "You're very welcome," She told Isi, patting her back in a gentle, caring way, "I'm really glad that we're friends, Isi..." Pulling back from the hug, then, she waved the other girl out of the office fondly.

"Tell me all about it, tomorrow!" She called playfully out the door, however, with a small laugh. Perhaps tomorrow, speaking of which, would be a good day to hit the fighting pits... Perhaps. It had been ages...

Isikiro Sherazi Anazalrok

Isi let out a sheepish chuckle. "a'raht, a'raht... fahn. "thank'ee again though..."
she paused during the hug, and gave a sweet smile (even if her head was kind of on Shi-Hao's shoulder). "N Ah'm glad we're friends too..." she truly was. Not just because she had saved her and her family, but because Shi-Hao had helped change her perspective on the upper class just a little. They were not all horrible snobby assholes like she had originally thought. Well... and she had never really had an actual friend before.

But, with a pleasant wave, Isi bade her friend goodbye with a promise to tell her everything ("will do!"). For now though, she went home, took another shower (they actually did feel pretty nice), and got dressed again. She brushed her hair to keep her curls from knotting or getting matted, and even went as far to apply a bit of coal-colored eyeshadow to her eyelids. Nothing too fancy, but she liked the effect it had.

But otherwise, she just dressed in a nice casual pair of black pants and shirtsleeves, (black and silver were her favorite colors) some sturdy walking shoes on her feet, and a sturdy purse over her shoulder. She wasn't sure if she'd be doing any actual shopping, but she wanted to have it to carry trinkets around with.

And so, thus began Isikiro Sherazi Anazalrok's first adventure out into the city. She had no idea where she was going, but was pretty sure she could find her way back. for the time being, she was passing through lovely parks and gardens, passing large and beautifully crafted statues and exotic plants everywhere she looked. It was quite a lot for such a (formerly) poor woman to see all at once, but even though she had only been out for a few minutes, she was already enjoying herself.

Drey

It was one of Drey's rare days off, that month, and rather than staying up at his mountain dig spot all day, he decided to venture back to the city around midday. If asked, he wouldn't be able to explain just why, but the large man really felt like... doing a little relaxing, for a change. He'd gotten several gems that morning, though, so perhaps he just felt that enough had been accomplished for now? It wouldn't do to burn out, after all - not when he was actually about halfway to his goal of financial independence for his mother.

Grabbing a bite to eat from one of the small wandering food carts in the Lower Ring, he decided to be a bit daring, as well. Drey casually meandered around the edges of the city until he knew he was alone; then he vaulted over a wall separating the Lower Ring from the Middle Ring. Not to cause any mischief, however... all he wanted to do was to sit near one of the beautiful gardens that were available to the public.

Rather than entering the garden proper, however, he finished his modest lunch near a low wall that lead away from the beautiful green expanse. There was a nice little breeze, which refreshed him somewhat, and he didn't feel quite so conspicuous, either. Little did Drey know, he was actually very close to the Upper Ring of the city... in fact, that very same park technically acted as a connecter between Middle and Upper. That was how a certain young lady had meandered across it, herself.

Isikiro's walk through the upper ring was quite delightful, although even with how beautiful it was, it was almost too much for her... almost like immersing one's self in a foreign country without first getting her feet wet, so to speak. So... she began to venture towards humbler locales in hopes of finding something... well, humbler. Not that she didn't like the current set of beauty though. she'd be back to see it on the way home, whenever that was (given that she didn't exactly have a schedule to keep today. a day off... what an interesting and rather lovely concept.)

Isikiro's loose curls bounced in the breeze, and she enjoyed it. she was now in one of the parks that divided the middle ring from the upper ring, approaching the former from the latter. there were still a couple of statues here, it seemed, but Isi didn't mind them. She passed by one of them without even noticing how realistic it looked, hardly suspecting a thing.

Drey

When someone began heading his way, Drey almost considered getting up and moving, so as not to disturb them and bring the City Defense Forces around to see what was going on... until he realized that he recognized her from somewhere. Despite the fact that she wasn't sporting the work clothes as he'd first seen her in, or the dress that he'd seen her wearing the other day when she was with a red-haired woman - it had to be the same woman from the Mines; Isikiro the brawler.

Though he hadn't known her well before, or anything - really, they were the vaguest of vague acquaintances - Drey thought that she definitely looked, well, a lot nicer, now. As though she'd gotten her life turned around. Still, she had been downright gorgeous in her dress, the other day, when he'd caught sight of her.

Making his mind up in a flash, still nearly too late, the large man couldn't stop himself from reaching out as Isikiro walked past, tugging gently on the bottom hem of her shirt. Now, he'd let go as soon as she stopped and turned around, holding his hand up apologetically, simply to say that he wanted to catch her attention and didn't have a better way. The scars on his throat should clue her in to his inability to speak, if she didn't recognize him, as well.

Now, despite Isikirio's thick country accent, when she squeaked, it was just as girly of a squeak as any woman's. Thus, she squeaked when she felt a tug on her shirt, and spun around, her fists at the ready. Just because she wasn't picking fights with everyone whose eyes met hers didn't mean that she didn't still have that fighting spirit in her. Well, and she had actually thought that someone was trying to pull her shirt off for a split second.
And thus, as she whirled around, pivoting with surprising grace on one of her feet, she was face to face with a rather large man that made her eyes widen. And he wasn't even standing up.

Wait. Had... had he recognized her?
She recognized him... he had a collection of nicknames, and Isi might have to dig to remember his name, so... well, so she'd know what to call him. She kind of just knew him as "The Gentle Giant", which was also why she hadn't swung her fist. She had gotten into fights with people much bigger than her before--and even won a few times.
But no... there'd be no fighting this time. instead, there'd be an... awkward greeting.
"uh... hello?" she waved sheepishly, wondering what he might want with her here. She wasn't afraid at all; just... curious. She wouldn't have ever expected to meet him here.

Thankful that he hadn't done more than startle her - and she'd made such a cute little squeak too - Drey offered an apologetic smile and a slight wave of his own, returning the greeting as best he could. Figuring that it was rude to remain sitting while he was talking to a lady, the large man slowly stood, straightening up to his full height before her. Drey... didn't know how intimidating that could appear.

Looking at her, and at how well she appeared to be nowdays, he couldn't help but smile softly down at Isi. Gesturing at her, waving a single hand down her body and then up, he nodded to show that he approved - though she would probably notice that his eyes were drawn to her beautiful curls. Then, however, he tilted his head to the side, looking a little confused. With both hands, he made a gesture that began at her chest, followed her sides down to her hips and then flared out, in imitation of a dress.

Simply; he wanted to know why she wasn't wearing a dress today.

Isi was not normally one to be intimidated... and she wasn't this time--but was admitteldy a bit in awe. This man was HUGE! she leaned her head back to look up at his face. She was a good foot shorter than him after all. For a moment, she was silent, and watched his motions. Now, while it may not have looked it, Isikiro was actually fairly good at reading body language. You kind of had to be in the mines because they were loud.

And thus, since she knew he couldn't speak, she watched his face and hands.
A dress? she tilted her head too, her curls bouncing slightly. They were definitely freer now that they were clean and untangled.
To answer his question, she shrugged. "Ah guess Ah jus' 'cided t'wear sumthin' more casual..." she shrugged, but a blush appeared on her brown-skinned face... she had been seen in a dress, and he had likedwhat he had seen? Isi had mixed feelings about it, only because it was foreign to her. but still... wow. someone had liked her dress? now she wanted to wear it again!
well... maybe! hold on.
"did... dija lahk it 'r sumthin?" she asked, slightly meek.

Drey

He'd never really known Isi before, admittedly, but this was the first time that Drey had seen her blush regardless, and he decided then and there that it was adorable - that she was adorable. The dress was, of course, just a plus.

At the question of liking it or not, however, his smile would stretch a little. How could he not have liked it? Any man with a pulse and without a wedding ring on his finger would like it! So, before answering, Drey would chuckle lightly (which was silent, compared to the laugh of someone who could speak, but expressed in the same way).

It wasn't long until he'd stopped, however, and then Drey would nod a clear affirmative. Reaching out as if to touch Isi's curls with one hand, Drey suddenly caught himself, stopping and pulling back... he hadn't gotten permission, after all.

well... yup. that had made her blush. She was flattered, and she didn't really even understand that she was flattered, since she wasn't used to getting complimented. Not that she had been ugly before the makeover, but anyone, male or female, who was caked in dirt, soot, muck, grime, and blood, covered in grizzly scars... well, that wasn't exactly appealing to anyone.

But those days were gone, and so was that genuinely miserable and wretched life of practical slavery. Thus... in fine, she was quite flattered, and smiled.
When he reached to touch her hair though, she also smiled. This time, she didn't talk, but instead, smiled, nodding and reaching for his hand. She practically took it, moving it towards her hair. If he wanted to touch... she'd let him. Hair wasn't too private (but could be very intimate). Well... and truth be told... she really liked people touching her hair.

Drey

Well now, that was certainly permission, alright. Drey couldn't believe his luck, in fact. Grinning slightly, though out of surprise, happiness and slight embarrassment, he let her guide his hand to her hair... which was amazingly soft, now that he could feel it. The loose curls coiled through his fingers and bounced slightly as Drey brushed his hand through once or twice.

Then, playfully, he took Isi's hand with his own free one and knelt down, bringing her hand up to his head to feel at the cornrows he had. Once again, he gave a mute laugh, his eyes sparkling as if to invite the lovely girl before him to share in his mirth. Despite his appearance, the large man enjoyed being playful and having fun, when he was able... it was just a bit difficult down in the dank darkness of the mine shafts.

Truth of the matter was... was that now that she had a chance to be such, Isikiro enjoyed being playful a bit as well. She had a cute laugh, and her siblings sometimes brought it out of her. They always enjoyed watching their big sister move rocks around with such ease due to her natural abilities as an earthbender. She had always been rather special in the Anazalrok household for that unique ability, which none of the others had inherited (neither her father nor mother were benders).

She did give a soft giggle as he played with her curls, and when he offered to let her stroke his hair... she actually did, grinning at how fuzzy it was in comparison. it was an interesting style, but she liked it. She didn't know why, but meeting this man proper for the first time... it was doing something to her willpower and turning it into mush... and she liked that feeling. A lot.

Drey

Her giggle and grin were just as adorable as her blush and squeak had been... Drey had to be careful, because he could already see himself becoming very attached to his young woman - it was happening already. Still... who was he to resist? Grinning back at her, he continued to play with her curls for a few more minutes, not even caring about where they were, out in public.

However, before too long, Drey took careful hold of her hand once again (the one in his hair) and began to stand back up... Once he was at his full height, he nuzzled once into the palm of her hand, as if to thank her for the attention.

Then, he moved his fingers away from brushing through her curls as well, instead gently caressing her jawline, watching her eyes. The other hand released her own, so that he could gesture out another question. Pointing to Isi, and then to himself, he made a sort of scoop with his fingers and brought them to his mouth, to signify eating... He was asking her to have dinner with him.

Isikiro Sherazi Anazalrok

Isi was very honest about what she did and did not like, and generally, if she did not klike something that someone was doing, she'd slug them in the face. That was how "Isikiro the brawler" came to be. Now... she did try to be patient... it wasn't like she'd be smiling one moment and punching someone the next, so Drey could take some comfort in knowing that he had not overstepped his boundaries yet or anything.

She couldn't help but smile warmly as he expressed appreciation for what she did, and she nodded with a soft, "you're welcome" sort of smile. Not that she didn't like talking to him... just that he communicated wordlessly, and she kind of liked that silence. If he wanted to hear her speak... surely he could make a fairly easy sign about it. She could tell why he himself was unable to... a right tragedy that.

But she certainly spoke at his latest proposal... well, proposition. Smiling excitedly, she beamed. "oooh! Ah'd love to!" she jumped up and down a couple times, barely able to contain her excitement. It was like a match made in heaven, love at first sight, or like they had been MADE for each other... pick your cheesy poison... and then die from how adorable it was.
she paused. "when didja wanna go? Lahk... where d'ye wanna meet me?" it was still near midday right now. "'n... didja wanna see mah dress?" oh yes. she could make a special exception for him; that was certain. The idea of being *asked out* to dinner by such a sweet man? oh yes! it was exciting. it made Isikiro feel like... well, feel like a normal woman, really. She wanted more... she had to have more.

Drey

At her first set of questions, Drey did his best to gesture signs legibly for Isi, who was not yet used to speaking with him this way. He wanted to meet her before the sun set below the lower mountain peak, so that they would have time to enjoy one another's company, rather than just to eat. Drey also wanted to meet right back here - which was easy enough to figure out, since he simply had to point to the spot where they now stood.

Whether or not he wanted to see Isi in her dress... well, that was the easiest sign of all. Grinning broadly, Drey simply had to nod a few times to show his enthusiasm. Yes, he very much wanted to see her in a dress - the same one or a different one, whichever she happened to show up wearing.

Until then, however, there were so many things that he'd like to tell her - romantic things - that he was just unable to say with his hands in such a short time. For the first time since he was a young teenager, Drey truly missed being able to use his voice. So, instead, he carefully took Isi's hand, lifting it to his lips as he leaned down to press a kiss to her knuckles.

Another fancy thing about Isikiro was that she was much more intelligent than she appeared (or sounded. Dang stereotypes about country accents and slow minds...). she caught his signs, and nodded to show that she would happily make that possible. She did want to go home and dress in something slightly nicer though. not that her clothes right now were that bad... but the dress... she was certain he'd love to see her beautiful (and modest) black one if he had enjoyed the more casual summer dress she had worn between stops.

Sure enough... suspicions confirmed. She nodded happily. "A'raht... Ah 'kin put ona dress..." normally, she might have just tilted her head and wondered what the hell someone was going on about if they wanted to see her in a dress, but now that her life was... well, in order... it seemed like a much more viable and thus doable option.

His next move though, was a bold one, and again, probably one that if anyone else had done it, she'd have connected said fist to their face. but no, the fact that he trusted her... *her* of all people--enough to take her hand and put her knuckles to his lips without fear of getting them torn open by a vicious strike from said knuckles... that touched Isi more ways than just physically. she smiled rather sweetly at him. He was enormous, yes... but also rather attractive. Maybe earthbenders were just naturally into huge guys like this or something... she was fine joining that stereotype.
"so... Ah guess Ah'll see ya later this aft'rnoon?" she asked him; not that she necessarily wanted to part ways so quickly; just that now shew as excited and had to get ready.

Meeting an Acquaintance Empty

Drey

Though he didn't really want to part company so quickly either, Drey had some planning to do for later that afternoon, and so he nodded, though with a half smile and a slight sigh. To say goodbye, he leaned down to Isi's level to lightly brush his lips across her forehead before waving her off, going to return to the Lower Ring, himself.

First, there was the question of food. Drey found himself hoping that his date would still be okay with common fare, since that was just about all that he had access to. Not that Drey was a good cook or anything (since he never had time to learn) - he was planning on stopping along the way to get them dinner from his favorite place, which made skewered kabobs of meat and what everyone hoped were vegetables.

Second, Drey needed to decide where to take her. While a wall next to a park was fine for himself... it wasn't the best place to bring a lady. Nor were the other places that he usually frequented anymore, so he really needed ideas. It was because of this that he wandered around and stumbled across a little wooded area close to the outer wall. It wasn't totally private, but it would be the nicest place that Drey could manage, and perhaps he and Isi could take a nice walk afterward.

Isi didn't exactly want to part ways either, but she knew that they'd be meeting back up again in a couple of hours (tops) anyways, and so it was mostly just a matter of cleaning up (extra), and then getting dressed in that lovely fancy dress and heels of hers. She had practiced walking in them a bit... and while her steps were smaller, she could do it now without running the risk of destroying her ankles.

It wasn't like Isi had suddenly gone to eating "rich people food" now that she suddenly had money. Her humble roots were far from forgotten, and so while she didn't actually say it, she would definitely be okay with whatever he got her. Food at all was still considered a luxury to her. That habitual notion had not died out just yet (though hopefully it would soon).

Thus, as he gave her a kiss on the forehead goodbye, she smiled and waved (with a "goodbye" herself), and instead of racing home... she continued her walk, timing herself (sort of) so she'd know when she needed to scramble home.
Well.. she ended up *almost* being late, booking it home, changing in a fit of excitement that even her family didn't quite catch. But, she was an adult, and so they didn't question her franticisms. (her mother had an idea of what it might have been though).

To cut a long story short, she made it back to the wall (earthbending had helped so she didn't have to run in heels too much), and was either waiting as Drey arrived, or would find him there waiting for her. Either way, she was excited and ready to go. And... she was all dolled up tonight. the dress was gorgeous.

Drey

Drey would have done his best to clean up as well, though, for him, that pretty much meant a quick scrub down in a large metal tub of water and trying to find the least dirt-covered clothes he owned. Thankfully his mother wasn't home to see him look himself over as best he could in her little cracked hand mirror - but Drey decided that this was probably as good as it was going to get, as far as looks were concerned.

There was something else, though... he wasn't really sure about the etiquette of a first date, but Drey recalled his mother mentioning that his father would bring her flowers. Those might be a bit difficult to get on short notice, but Drey did have something else on hand that reminded him of Isi as soon as he set eyes on it. Snatching it up, he pocketed the little treasure, intending to give it to his date as a surprise.

Not wanting to be late, he left the tiny little house at a bit of a jog right after that, headed for the food stand. Picking up enough for two people was easy enough, and just as it was boxed and in his hand, it was time to meet Isi at the little garden wall. Drey beat her there by only a minute or two, so he was there waiting for her, but he certainly hadn't started to wonder where she was, or anything. He'd greet her with a bright, happy grin and a wave.

For Isi... well, the dress could be washed if it got dirty. Becoming "rich" had not changed her at all. She was just a humble girl in rich girl's clothing now. Hopefully Drey was aware of that fact and didn't think that she had been fundamentally transformed or anything so drastic like that. In fine, both of them were much more worried about the date than they needed to actually be, which, if there had been an involved 3rd party aware of it... they would have found it cute.

"heya!" she waved, a pretty smile on her face. she did have a little bit of makeup on, (mostly around her eyes, which was a particular line of cosmetics that she liked) but not too much as to distract from her natural beauty. Her hair was still down in its natural curls (she hoped he would play with it a few times during or after the date), and her skirts flowed to her ankles.
"you look great." she complimented. It was probably his best anyways, but Isi's standards were fairly low--which wasn't a bad thing. It just meant she knew and understood what humble circumstances were, and so didn't need to expect prim and proper perfection like some rich snobs might (Shi-Hao was definitely not one of those though).

She sniffed the air. she assumed it was coming from that box in his arms. "Somethin' smells goooood... she cooed.

Drey

As soon as he caught sight of Isi, dressed up in that little black number with the silver accents... Yeah, Drey felt pretty good about being the one she was rushing to meet. Gesturing to her outfit, he gave a smile and a happy nod, showing his approval - not that Isi needed a dress to get his approval, of course. Her compliment to him, however, actually made him blush and rub the back of his neck in slight embarrassment; he knew that he hadn't cleaned up as nicely as she did...

The box, of course, was full of those kabobs - along with another tiny box that he'd grabbed for desert - and so he opened the top to let her have a peek, as well as having smelled it. Drey gestured for her to follow him, however, before reaching to take her hand, leading her to that little wooded area outside the wall, where they could sit and enjoy their dinner in peace and (relative) solitude. There were other couples around, but each one was keeping to themselves - which Drey and Isi would be doing, as well, of course.
