Nuwe Tokann [Expert]

This is another nonbender character I've created. This one's pretty interesting I think. I'll admit this character is largely a facet of my dream to become a doctor.

Personality: Nuwe has become noticeably cold and detached throughout her training and work in medicine. She is intimidating in her bluntness, a result of her work in a field with little knowledge that she didn't pioneer herself. As a result of her success she has become aloof and sometimes hostile. She is incredibly passionate about her work, and believes there still that there is so much to be learned about te human body, even though others are not often supportive of her beliefs.

Nuwe is relatively kind to her younger brother, Abra, who has become a work partner of hers in many cases. Nuwe acts very professionally, her speech and manner rarely changes, leading her to appear very driven yet uninteresting to others. That said, she is taken seriously when she speaks, and her speech is anything but boring.

Nuwe does not like to travel, she prefers the simplicity and organization of her home and work. She generally tries to bring items of study to her instead of going to them.

Abilities: Nuwe is an incredibly capable doctor. She has written many articles and even books on various hosts of diseases and disorders, as well as categorizing perhaps the most comprehensive analysis on the anatomy of the human body. (In modern terms, she has particularly detailed all of the organs, muscles, and bones of the bodies. She has outlined all the basic systems of the human body, and she is a leader in understanding the science of the brain. She has not made any discoveries on microscopic levels.)

Nuwe is also an accomplished chemist, pioneering an interpretation of modern day pharmacy. She has created several medicines and remedies.

Nuwe is not well-versed in biomechanics, machines invented to enhance her job. Her brother works closely with her to develop new medical technology.

When it comes to actual medical practice, Nuwe is well-versed in combat medicine. She is a capable ally to have on the battlefield, and is also capable of organizing aid efforts in addition to medical work. She is also an experienced surgeon, although this doesn't compare to modern day surgery at all.

One of the things often noted about Nuwe, after her intelligence, of course, is her beauty. This adds to her ability to intimidate in her career, but occasionally also makes it more difficult for her to be taken seriously. Fortunately she has found ways to combat this, causing her to be a loud, blunt speaker and moving with sharp, quick motions. Naturally, Nuwe is much smoother, but she has had to fabricate these motions to get people to forget her beauty.

Nuwe has a long, somewhat solemn face. She wears black pointed glasses and has hair that falls down her back. She wears a white coat with dark blue trim, a light blue shirt underneath, and dark blue pants. She wears white shoes. She is of an average height and weight, and so can slip into a crowd fairly easily. She is physically fit, a product of perpetual readiness that she believes she must retain in order to be at the top of her abilities.

History:

Nuwe was born to a good mother and father, and later she gained a brother named Abra. Her early life was relaxed, she played and learned with the other children of the tribe, but when she was eight it became obvious she was abnormally skilled in scientific goals. Her mother and father decided to pull her out of the school and bring a new education upon her. Her mother, an idealist, claimed that a woman could only free herself with education, a belief that Nuwe herself took to heart. Nuwe's new education was rigorous, and her intelligence caught the attention of several doctors in the tribe who decided to finance Nuwe's learning. With these new funds, her parents brought incredible tutors from around the world to give Nuwe lessons. Nuwe excelled, motivated by her own interest in the subjects, and she decided she wanted to be a doctor too. At the age of seventeen she went to apprentice with some other doctors in the Northern Water Tribe.

In a brief four years, Nuwe learned all the doctors seemed to know, and worked tirelessly. Unfortunately for Nuwe, she had unwittingly forced herself into a breaking point. She worked one day, when a rude comment from a patient caught her off guard. Normally she was capable of taking these in stride, but on this day she snapped back at the patient and left her work. She didn't return the next day, or the next. She sank into a deep, unexpected depression, and even though the doctors she worked with continuously offered their help, she would not take it. She stopped her research, her education, and her work, and she became a bit of a recluse. For a month she ate only enough to live without being hungry, and she slept more than she woke. She wallowed in this despair for that full month until she was snapped out of it by the fact that she missed her work. She realized her true love was medicine and attempted to return to her work, but the doctor she was working with would not have her back. Frustrated, Nuwe decided to break off and become an independent professional. She moved to the Fire Nation to pursue her career. Her brother came with her. In the Fire Nation, Nuwe wrote the bulk of her work to date, and she spent ten years in the city. She developed countless medical skills and fully categorized the human anatomy, something that had been only partially done and never before standardized. She managed to get her anatomical system standardized throughout the Fire Nation and Northern Water Tribe, but the other nations did not follow suit.

Eventually, at the age of 28, Nuwe decided it was time for her to open a new chapter in her career, so she moved to Zulera City.
