Full Name: Karnok Werrtak
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Element: Water
Birthplace: Northern Water Tribe
Position: Part of the Northern Water Tribe Navy and has done a few assignments with the Special Tasks Unit.

Personality: Karnok is very creative and intelligent, but often lacks common sense. Being raised in the Northern Water Tribe, he believes most of the responsibilities in life fall to men (although this belief has been changing ever since the stories of Katara's accomplishments have reached the Northern Tribe) and he takes a lot of pride in his nation. He does, however, have bitter feelings towards subjects of love and romance due to the poor ending to his relationship with the girl he wished to marry. When these two topics are avoided, his comrades also in the Water Tribe's military find Karnok to be a fun and overall pleasant person to be around.

Abilities: He is a skilled hunter - having gone on trips into the frozen tundra surrounding the capitol city with his father many times - and was also the current champion of his age group in the Tribe's Waterbending Tournament, a title he lost when his military training interfered with the following year's competition. His mother also taught him rudimentary healing abilities through his waterbending after the traditional waterbending roles between the sexes was eliminated. Although he is able to use machetes and spears effectively, as do all of the members of the Northern Water Tribe's Military, Karnok prefers to use a bow and arrow as his primary non-bending weapon - which results from his extensive hunting experience with it.

Appearance:
Karnok Werrtak [Completed] WaterBENDERclr2

Height: 6'
Weight: 180 lbs.
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Brown

With moderately short and always messy hair, Karnok has a fairly muscular build as a result of his extensive warrior training. While at home, he wears the traditional navy-blue fur coat and brown boots over his everyday apparel, which consists of loose pants and a sleeve-less tunic (although a long sleeved shirt is worn underneath the tunic depending on the outside temperature). He has a scar on his left arm that extends from his shoulder to about the midpoint of his bicep which he received during a spar with another member during the swordsmanship portion of warrior training. In order to both grip his tools and perform better Waterbending, Karnok usually only wears thin gloves, but he possesses a pair of thick, three-fingered gloves to wear when in the colder climates of his hometown.

Weaponry and Gear:
Moleskin Pouch - Standard equipment carried by waterbenders to be used whenever needed.
Bow - Handcrafted out of wood by his father, Karnok has had his bow since childhood and has therefore grown perfectly in sync with it, which - as a result makes - makes him clumsy with other bows at first and requires a few shots before he can adjust.
Arrow Holster - A lightweight leather tube that typically will contain 20 wooden arrows.
Whale-tooth Sword - Standard Northern Water Tribe Military weapon literally carved from a tooth of an adult leopard-whale.

History:
Born into a middle class family, Karnok enjoyed the challenging yet rewarding life of being a male in the Northern Water Tribe. Although many of their sexist traditions were under reform, Karnok still attended a boys only school. Once he attained the age of seven, he spent many of his free days accompanying his father (Haruk) on hunting trips with several other hunters in the city. It was on these trips over the next three years that he learned how to properly and skillfully shoot using a bow and arrow. It was no surprise either that he manifested the skills of waterbending on his tenth birthday as his mother (Takya) was one of the best healers in the city - which is how his parents met.

When he finished his primary education at age thirteen, and with his mother's assistance, Karnok began searching for a Waterbending Master to train him in the art. He learned from Master Kotan, an elderly man who was once considered the second most powerful Waterbender in the North Pole and held a position on the Tribal Council, until an accident caused his wife to drown in the city canal and simply ceased to care about anything. He lived alone for many years until Karnok's mother began to visit the poor man, knowing that company was the best way to heal his broken heart. Master Kotan gradually re-integrated into society with Takya's help, and he felt a proper way to repay her kindness was to train her son in Waterbending.

For six years Karnok studied and trained with his master, learning his bending art and becoming quite skilled in it amongst his peers. During the final year of his training - when he was eighteen - Master Kotan passed away, and Karnok completed his training and with Master Mirnapku's (the Tribe's Grand Master and old friend of Master Kotan) class. On the Winter Solstice, the graduation ceremony was held and Karnok, along with his fellow graduates, demonstrated their skills for the whole tribe to see. After the ceremony, Karnok met and fell in love with the Chief's daughter, Princess Marika, and the two began to date. Even though her father secretly disproved of Karnok because of his family's social class, he still allowed the relationship to continue believing that it would not last forever. The two continued to see each other for two years, however, and on Marika's birthday, Karnok planned to present her with a betrothal necklace and asked for her hand in marriage. That night quickly became his worst night he'd ever endured. Marika arrived at Karnok's home for dinner as they had planned, but she remained very distant, going so far as to not even touch Karnok's hands, let alone kiss him during the night. As time passed throughout the evening, the two ate their meal in almost complete silence until Karnok finally demanded to know what was wrong. Marika broke down in tears saying that her father had promised her to another the night before, to a boy of a wealthy class that was due to finish warrior training for the Water Tribe Army the following year as top of his class. She admitted to hiding her father's disapproval for him for the past few months due to his lower class standings and position as a Waterbending assistant to Master Mirnapku teaching the beginning levels. Karnok desperately attempted to sway Marika by presenting his betrothal necklace to her anyway, only to find that she was already wearing one from the boy her father selected. Marika then ran from the house crying and never looked back, leaving Karnok stunned and scared.

Karnok never saw Marika again, except during formal business meetings he sat in for Master Mirnapku, and the Chief sent a letter to him asking that he never try to meet with her or speak openly about their previous relationship as it would hurt Marika too much. A few weeks later the town was bustling with excitement for the wedding of the decade, and month after that, the joyous news was spread that Marika was with child. In this tough time for Karnok, he spent his free time away from the city in the frozen tundra as he practiced his waterbending. The only people understood his pain were his parents and Master Mirnapku. Though they tried to help the twenty-year-old cope with his pain, their attempts were unsuccessful.

Karnok kept in this lifestyle until his twenty-first birthday when news of Marika's child being born spread across the city. The news reached Karnok and his family as they were about to settle down for a birthday dinner and shock flew through all of them as they realized that it had only been seven months since Marika and Karnok's relationship ended. Although his parents never knew the details of their son's relationship with the Princess, they assumed their suspicions were correct by the equally surprised look on Karnok's face. Enraged that Marika had kept his child secret from him and proceeded to marry another man, giving him the title of the baby's father instead, Karnok went straight to the Armory and registered for the Navy.

He completed his training at the top of his class almost a year later, and secretly glared at the Chief and Princess throughout the graduation ceremony. Marika figured Karnok chose this career because of her and guilty tears filled her eyes as she watched her true love become a sailor while she held their child in her arms.

Since then, Karnok has taken every opportunity to leave the North Pole on trips to escort trade ships and protect ambassador vessels. He has grown happier over the last two years, and has made some great friends in the Navy. Whenever he is at the North Pole, however, he spends most of his time out at sea on his personal skiff or out in the Tundra he used to hunt. He has never told his comrades his history with the Princess as the King requested, but they began to make a connection between him and the Royal Family after their unit had to once escort them on a voyage to the Earth Kingdom. They would frequently notice Karnok sadly gazing upon the Princess as she played with her son, whom she named Kotan after the great waterbender, but whenever the crew would ask Karnok if he liked her, he would become almost violent with rage and embarrassment. Soon enough, they learned to simply stop asking about his romantic life all together.

During his free time, Karnok can be found either practicing his waterbending to further perfect his skills or lying in his bed as he reminisces of a time in his life when he was truly happy.

Character Box:

Karnok Werrtak

Karnok lied lazily in bed as he thought about his life. His childhood was good, he found love at an appropriate age, and he excelled at what he loved to do. Then everything changed and now he has no relationship with his son as he would like to nor with his child's mother, even though he often wishes he could stop thinking about her for even one day. As he began to drift off to sleep, his bunk-mate Hikona came in the room to tell Karnok that it was time for him to start his watch on the ship. Karnok sighed as he once again would have to perform his duties after a sleepless night.

Mood: Downhearted
