History:
Hayato was born in the Fire Nation town of Shu Jing. Hayato never knew his father, but his mother was a powerful Fire Bender and respected teacher OF Firebending in Shu Jing. As such, she was his first teacher beginning at the ripe age of 5. Surprisingly, Hayato was actual a poor Firebender when he began. He seemed to lack an inborn talent or potential. He had to work twice as hard to accomplish what the rest of his class accomplished with ease. What he lacked in skill, he made up for in drive. He may have had to work twice as hard, but he was perfectly willing to. That hard work eventually put him past his peers in his mother's class in skill by leaps and bounds.
His skill imbedded in him a belief that he was a very powerful fighter; that in turn led him to make the childish promise that he would protect his mother from harm. This promise, made by a foolish child would invariably have a HUGE effect on the future Fire Nation General became. At some time between the ages of 11 and 12, Shu Jing was raided by a violent and dangerous group of Firebending bandits. Hayato's overconfidence led him to challenge these bandits. Distinctly outclassed, his mother stepped into save his life at the cost of her own. This event taught him two things. His overconfidence being the direct cause of his mother's death taught him humility. The pain he felt at his mother's death, and his promise broken by connection, has caused him to COMPLETELY refuse to break promises of any kind.
With his mother gone, he decided now was the time for him to get out and see the world. Even if he was only 13 by the time he decided to leave, he still set out on his own. He wished to increase, both his knowledge of the world, and more prominently his skills in combat. He trained daily, every morning before setting out for the day. Over the course of the next 3 years, he had traveled to several parts of the Earth Kingdom, he had visited the Southern Water Tribe and Southern Air Temple, and almost all of the Fire Nation. His most notable stop was at the Fire Nation Capital. It was here he met the man who would become his greatest friend and ally. A man named Tuzai Kuo.
Of course they did not start out as friends, basically the first thing they did was get into a huge, elaborate argument ending with an Agni Kai. The two of them being powerful Firebenders, their Agni Kai was said to have lasted from the setting of the sun, all the way to the morning. This great battle of these two, eventually famous, warriors would later be known as "The Battle of the Rising Sun." Historians can't quite seem to agree who actually WON this battle, and Hayato doesn't seem all that intent on clarifying it. Whoever actually won, the battle solidified the pair's friendship.
Though Hayato continued both his strict training regime, as well as most of his world traveling tendencies, he remained steadfast friends with Tuzai. Hayato was present at his wedding. He was there at the birth of Tuzai's son. He was also present at Tuzai's death. It was here that Hayato made a singular promise. He made a promise that he would look out for his son, Novai, under any and all circumstances. Hayato's opinion on promises assured that he would keep it. He has spent the remainder of his life doing just that, though continuing his regimen of daily training at all times. When Novai was made the Fire Lord, Hayato's skills and knowledge granted him a position as a General.
Personality:
Hayato is a man of conviction and a man of his word. If he gives his word that he will do something, there is absolutely NOTHING that can stop him from doing whatever it is he has said. He is very careful not to make conflicting promises, but in the event that he does, he will try and work out a method that satisfies both promises. If that is impossible, he will relegate to keeping whatever promise he made first. The ridiculous lengths to which he will go to keep these promises border on outright stupid at times. Honor before reason is practically his MO.
Overall, Hayato is actually quite the kind-heartened fellow. At least to his friends and allies, and to most strangers. To his enemies, and those he deems as dangerous or bad people, he is merciless. That said, who he deems an "enemy" varies as someone he's fighting does not really equate to an enemy to him. In spite of this, in times of all-out battle, he will not actively judge enemies good, bad, or otherwise. Times of war do not allow for such decisions to be made if you want to live, and living is required to keep the promises he's made.
One of the largest aspects that effect his life decisions is the promise he made with Tuzai. He promised to look out for Novai, but what exactly this means is a complicated matter. The most common misconception is that this means doing what Novai says. For the most part he does follow Novai's orders, notably he follows Novai's orders NOT the "Fire Lord's." It is a mere matter of coincidence that those are one and the same. He also does not truly consider himself a Fire Nation soldier or General, he is merely Novai's ally as far as he's concerned. Regardless of that, while he follows Novai's orders, he only continues to do so as long as his orders so long as doing so is in Novai's best interest...Even if Novai may or may not think it is.
Abilities:
Hayato has paid the price for his level of skill. He has paid it in blood, sweat, tears, the lives of those he cared for and the lives of those he cared nothing for. The scars he wears across his body are the signs that he has earned his power. And a formidable power it is. He is a Master Firebender by all meanings of the word, but his skills are more numerous than that. He is also quite skilled in the art of swordsmanship paired with a shield, he is a clever tactician, as well as being quite a knowledgeable historian, knowledge which he uses to his advantage in any number of situations.
Hayato's most potent skill is his Firebending. Training and use for 37 of his 42 years has shaped it as such. Hayato is aware of both the uses of Firebending, via willpower or by anger. He is far more inclined to use the former, but is perfectly willing to use the latter. His foremost and most powerful use of Firebending, as well as the one that earned him his second name, is his incredibly potent and efficient use of Lightning generation techniques. He is able to use Lightning in a far less draining and far more versatile form than most Firebenders. He is also able to redirect lightning. There are some who say he can bend lightning more easily than he can bend fire. His fire is colored the normal red, but most unusually, his lightning is ALSO colored a deep red instead of blue.
While his other skills are less potent than his Firebending, he is by no means weak in those areas. He has studied his swordsmanship for as long as he has been studying his Firebending, so has them firmly integrated into one another. The only thing holding back his tactical prowess is the fact that he has been unable to use it in full scale war. His historical and cultural knowledge, however, is just about on par with his Firebending skills. He has spent 29 of his 42 years travelling all around the world, learning these things all along the way. The only difference between him and a professional historian is the official papers saying so.
Appearance:
Despite being in his 40s, Hayato looks more like he's in his late 20s or early 30s. He does, however, have pure white hair, but he has had that since he was a child, oddly enough. He wears this white hair at medium length and does not tie it up or do any of the styling most people of his rank would, instead leaving it quite messy. His eyes are colored a deep blue.
In spite of his position, Hayato does NOT wear the usual Fire Nation uniform, neither in nor out of battle. Stemming from his earlier stated belief that he is not the Fire Nation's soldier, but Novai's soldier. Out of battle, even in meetings of Generals and nobles, Hayato wears very simple clothing. He wears baggy, reddish brown pants over brown leather boots with a black leather belt. He wears an equally loose, matching color shirt. Finally he wears a long scarlet scarf that once belonged to his mother.
In combat he opts for armor, but his armor isn't standard Fire Nation armor either. His armor is instead, silver colored plate mail. It is of a very light variety, and Hayato doesn't even wear a full set, simply because a full regular set would impede his movement too much. He wears only the chest plate, the shoulder guards, the gauntlets, the helmet, and the greaves. He does not wear the joint armor and the armor between the elbows and shoulders as well as the knees and the waist. On his back, he wears a special holster to hold both his blade and shield. His helmet has a special design befitting his names; that of a falcon. He continues to wear his scarlet scarf into battle.

Material:
Both the sword and the shield parts of Raikou Kame are expertly crafted with a wide variety and strange combonation of a large number of varying elements. The way they are combined is almost random, but they still hold together remarkably well. The completely unnatural mixture makes it exceedingly difficult, if not completely impossible, for either parts to be either Earthbent OR Metalbent.
Description:
Due to the unusual combination of elements, both the sword and shield have strange hints of color throughout. For the most part, they matche the silver color of Hayato's armor. The shield is a kite shield. The sword is of an unusal type for the ones commonly seen. Instead of the usual eastern style weapons seen, the blade is instead a western longsword.
Abilities:
Raikou Kame's only ability is that it is either exceedingly difficult or, in most cases, impossible to be Metal or Earthbent.
