Needs Particular Approval

Full Name: Sister Aamatsu
Gender: Female
Age: 54 years
Element: Air
Birthplace: Western Air Temple
Position: Western Air Council

Personality:

With age, Aamatsu has grown to be quite introspective. She values wisdom and patience over all else, and this is reflected in her intelligent, calm demeanor. She is nearly always level-headed and at peace with herself.

However, as many young nomads of the Western Air Temple may know, she can strike a bit of a temper when disrespected by the more youthful air nomads. Even in her more tempered moments, though, she can remain to have a cool outward demeanor when necessary.

Abilities:

Being an Elder of the Air Nomads, Aamatsu is a master of the 36-tiers of Airbending. Proudly earning her arrows as a result. However, she uses a number of less traditional airbending techniques, in light of the Nomad's adaption to war.

In their many experiences of war since returning from isolation after the Hundred Years War, Nomads have developed a newer style of bending which would allow militant Air Nomads to kill from necessity. This has lead to Aamatsu using deadly master-level bending techniques such as air-pressure explosions and the more common airblade. Her special technique, however, lays with her ability to create small areas of air devoid of oxygen. She developed this technique in the Brief and Bloody war, to weaken firebending and essentially choke firebenders to death. She considers this quite brutal, however, and her religious beliefs refrain her from using it to much lethality. More often this technique is seen as a counter to firebending attacks.

Aside from her bending, Aamatsu has been seen as quite an odd Air Nomad, donning heavier plate-armor and using weapons to augment her style instead of relying on dodging and hit-and-run tactics. This has earned her the nickname of Still-Storm Aamatsu, tending to only dodge when necessary, but often merely countering opposition.

As for her weapons, Elder Aamatsu prefers her three bending-augmented weapons for fighting. The first is a simple longsword, designed merely as a more basic weapon. It's not often used for bending, but can emit quite a dense airblade when it is. This weapon, like most of Aamatsu's, is made of pure-refined metals so as to be unbendable.

A second, and most common short-ranged weapon is a sword hilt. The hilt has been designed with special air-channels that allow the user to project a super-dense, short airblade that acts like a dense, dynamic sword. This can also be used to shoot 'air-bolts'(Sharp stabs of air that travel quickly for mid-ranged attacks).

Aamatsu's final and most prideful weapon is the result of her occasional studies with the inventors of the Norther Air Temple. From her encounters and studies with them, she's constructed a pure-metal device designed to fire high-velocity blades, darts, and bolts via utilizing airbending with a compression chamber to compress air, then release it to fire the projectile at great speeds. This makes the weapon quite formidable for mid-range or long-range combat. However, compressing air is a slow process and makes rapid firing nigh impossible, even for a master airbender.

Appearance:

Aamatsu's age shows less than most would expect, though her hair has already greyed, and her irises have aged from a blue-grey to just a light grey color. Aside from those qualities, her age has only lightly wrinkled her stern face, and hasn't begun to yet decay her form. She is in the prime of her elder years.

One could predict the airbending traditions in her looks. Her grey hair is ended short on a shaved forehead, and the ever renown airbender arrows that marks her mastering the 36-teirs of airbending.

Her form is lean and muscular, athletic to don her armor and maintain airbending all the same. Her armor covers her form, though. It's construction of mixed plates of pure tugsten and titanium make it lustrous like silver. And even though she dorns such armor, it is smooth and has many cloth augmentations to allow her to airbend herself just fine. These cloths tend to be a lighter brown or faded airbender orange in color and line her limbs as well as make a light cape over the back.

Weaponry and Other Gear:
Name: Wind's Mettle

Type: Longsword

Material: Pure titanium blade with pure tungsten hilt

Description: This silvery, shining longsword is about 46" in length, with 9" dedicated to the intricate hilt. It is a traditional cross-style blade made with detailed, Air Nomad markings throughout the weapon. Upon the pommel and guard are Nomad-Orange cloths and banners with the Air Nomad symbol proudly upon them.

Abilities: The only notable ability of this weapon is that it cannot be metalbended, being truly refined to purity. It's titanium design makes it tough as steel, but considerably lighter.

It can also be thrown or retrieved with airbending due to the cloth and banners that adorn it.

Creator: Aamatsu had it forged by a Norther Air Temple smith at a younger age.

Name: Thoughts of Sky

Type: Blade Hilt

Material: Tungsten

Description: An odd, hollow blade hilt with no guard, but instead has odd funnels at the end designed to spin and project dense currents of air. The entire device is embroidered with Air Nomad designs.

Abilities:
One is able to channel air through the hilt to create a dense airblade with metal-like solidity. An aibender is also able to manipulate this air blade mildly. In general the blade is only up to three feet in length.

An airbender can also throw a small, sharp arrow of air from the hilt.

The downside of this weapon is it can't block solid strike, only deflect them.

Creator: After much research and practice of Norther Air Temple techniques, Aamatsu forged this weapon herself.

Name:War Zephyr

Type:Projectile-shooter

Material: Titanium compression chamber and rails with aluminum frame.

Description: A strange device with a crossbow-like design. At the stock is a spherical compression chamber. The frame also accommodates a number of guiding rails. It is laced with intricate Air Nomad designs, like all of Aamatsu's weapons.

Abilities:

Can shoot small projectiles with compression-enhanced airbending. Often knives, bolts and darts at high velocities. If no ammo is present, fires a small, high-velocity sphere of condensed air, which decompresses violently on contact.

Unfortunately, even a master airbender takes a moment to pressurize the chamber. Making the weapon, while quite dangerous, slow and unwieldy to use. This makes it particularly unwieldy at close ranges.

Creator: After mastering her studies of the Inventions of the Northern Air Temple inventors, Aamatsu forged this unique weapon herself, and takes much pride in it.

History:

Aamatsu was born and raised in the Western Air Temple. Like all young nomads, she was born into airbending, propelling into the thirty-six techniques. However, Aamatsu found she better related and understood the spirituality of airbending, and thus was often seen among the elders as gifted with the natural styles. She swiftly came to be nearly a master of airbending by the age of 17, only beat in mastery at youth by Avatar Aang.

Since earning her tattoos at a young age, she spent many years in the Western Temple devoted to further studies of spirituality and teaching young benders about the spiritual devotions of bending-- a task usually reserved to the older masters. The elders, however, did not think it proper for such a young master to be teaching yet. Aamatsu accepted their wisdom without harsh judgement. They were, after all, her elders; she had always made it a point to respect their greater wisdom and experience in life.

Eventually, however, Aamatsu found that airbending was not an art purely limited to spiritual greatness, but could be augmented by physical guidance as well. This is when her studies became quite odd. She donned lighter plate armor, and began using weapons not originally purposed for airbending. She even began studies of the inventions of the Norther Air Temple in hope of one day becoming quite the inventor herself.

It wasn't 'till much later in her life that Aamatsu was taken more seriously. But at the age of fourty-two, she proved herself with wisdom and courage in the Brief and Bloody war, fighting vigilantly to prevent dominance over the Western air temple, with it being so close to the fire nation. Her odd styles and free-beliefs lead her to be among the greatest airbenders in the war, successfully fending off numerous attacks from the Fire Nation with her dedicated and swift command style, and a few of her ingenious machines of war.

It only took a matter of a year for her to be recognized by the Air Council, and was accepted as an honorary member five years early, despite suggestion on Aamatsu's part to wait until she was of proper age before joining the council.

Ever since, she has resided in the Western Air Temple, teaching the spirituality of airbending to the youth, and guiding the Western Air Temple in times of peace. Even now, she continues to teach, though remains vigilant, ready to defend her home in case of further Fire Nation aggression, and inventing devices of both war and convenience to protect and aid her people.
