Izanagi Yutaka

No one really knows much about Izanagi’s real personality. He has a face for every occasion and can successfully fool almost anyone. He is very good at reading people and often changes his personality to suit his needs, this along with the fact that he is very charming and eloquent, is what makes him such a successful con artist. He has a great love for money, which is what drives him to pull off his various scams. He has no sense of responsibility to any person or any cause and just wants to live out his life out to the full, reveling in his wealth. He lives a pleasure-seeking lifestyle using his wealth on wine, women and song. He also seems to have a knack for gambling as well. He does however, have a conscience that keeps his morals in check. For example he usually wouldn’t exploit the old or anyone who can’t look after themselves, and has never resorted to violence in any of his scams. He is also known to occasionally show great kindness.

Apart from being a skilled and charismatic speaker, as well as a good reader of people. Izanagi is also adept at other skills such as pickpocketing and sleight-of-hand. He also has an extraordinary memory and spends a lot of his time immersed in books studying whatever he can; this enables him to seem as if he is an expert at almost any subject, which also helps him with his scams. He also seems to have unnatural luck at times. His waterbending skills are impressive, and he can manipulate large volumes of water very well. His combat skills however, leave something to be desired. He has never really been in a fight, as he could always talk his way out of his messes, no matter how big. He usually uses his bending to aid him in scams or to impress pretty young ladies.
Waterbending: Izanagi learnt waterbending from a young age. He was always an average waterbender and didn’t give much attention or effort to learning any more than he needed to get by.

Combat Skills: Izanagi has never really had to fight before and so he has never had to learn. Even though he is physically very strong and fit, he is a novice fighter at best and would probably take a beating better than he would be able to give one.
Thieving: Since he was a boy, Izanagi’s real gifts lay in the subtle arts. Growing up on the streets he and quickly became adept at skills like remaining hidden, lock-picking and pickpocketing. He enjoys stealing things from right under people’s noses.
Alchemy: The whole reason Izanagi decided to learn Alchemy was to help him with his schemes. He uses it to make a variety of salves, potions and other useful things that may be of use to him like smoke pellets.



(158) Izanagi is tall, dark and handsome, and he always keeps himself neat and clean. This is mostly to look more approachable. He is fit and his body is very well-toned, though it is more for aesthetic purposes rather than for fighting and combat. He is very good at manipulating his body posture and facial expressions. To some he may seem gentle and caring, to others he may confident and professional, and to others still he may seem to be a poor, depressed soul, all depending on how he wishes to be seen. He also uses many disguises and such to help him fool people better.

He normally wears traditional Water Tribe clothes, but has many different sets of clothing, which he is also known to wear. For example, he owns traditional clothes from all the other Nations which he uses when he wants people to think that he comes from somewhere other than one of the Water Tribes.
Izanagi almost never carries weapons or any real equipment other than what he uses for his scams. He does always carry a box of dice, a pai sho tile set and a deck of cards. He is usually clothed in the clothes of the nation he is currently in.


Izanagi was born in the Northern Water Tribe, his parents were very poor and he had to resort to stealing to survive. By the time he was six, he had become a skilled thief more so than any of the other kids his age, but his real strength was his mind. He soon found himself hatching elaborate schemes and plots to trick people out of their money. As he got older, his schemes became more and more complicated, and his pay-outs started to increase substantially. He spent his time studying people, learning their ways and mannerisms, eventually he learned to mimic the people of his village whether they were rich or poor, happy or sad.

He soon gained access to the upper-class parts of the city (where he really pulled off some big scams) by acting wealthy. He found that he could easily read people and then exploit them once he was armed with the knowledge. The rich were especially easy to deceive and manipulate and he tended to target them instead of the lower class citizens. He didn’t view stealing as wrong, instead he felt that he was entitled to steal from the wealthy and soon he was living a prosperous easy life.

As he started associating with the rich and wealthy, he discovered his skill in gambling, especially bluffing games like poker. He always seemed to be lucky, always winning much more than he lost. He began living a pleasure seeking life, obtaining anything he wanted through whatever means necessary, as long as he could keep his hands clean. Izanagi limited his criminal dealings to white collar crime only.

It wasn’t long before Izanagi had amassed a small fortune. He has since left the Northern Water Tribe to travel the world, although he does return to his home regularly. For now he is content to travel the world in luxury, scamming and stealing from whoever he can along the way.

Izanagi let out a lopsided grin as he entered the great city of Gaoling. It was a thief’s paradise, filled to the brim with the rich, the wealthy and even the famous, all with pockets ripe for the picking. To blend in better, Izanagi was wearing traditional green Earth Kingdom civilian clothes. They were plain and ordinary in every way, this made him quite unnoticeable in a crowd. After all, the last thing he wanted right now was to draw attention to himself. He started his rounds, scoping out various stores and locations, looking for “opportunities.” As he walked through the streets, Izanagi managed to pickpocket a couple of rich merchants and even a noblewoman as she browsed through a silk merchant’s goods. It was a good source of income, but Izanagi’s main goal in any city he visited, was to pull off one big scam or heist. After which he would usually leave the town for a while. Of course, such scams took quite a bit of planning and he first needed to get a lay of the land. Izanagi made a mental map of the streets as he walked through them, paying special attention to any locations that were suitable for scams or heists and also possible escape routes. It started getting late and the local merchants and shopkeepers started closing up. Izanagi smiled as he patted his pockets, he had made more than enough gold for one days ‘work’ and he felt he had gotten a good look around the part of town he planned to ‘operate’ in. He turned towards the nearby inn, quaintly named ‘The Hospice’. He walked into the building and stood at the desk in what he was sure was the reception area. He looked around before ringing a little bell for service. He didn’t pay much attention to the inn or anything in it, as his mind was already busy hatching new schemes as his hands lightly tapped the gold in his pockets.
