Zehir

It was an overcast day. The snakes would be in their dens during this chilly weather. Zehir wandered on one of the hills around Gaoling, searching for any suspicious knoll or tunnel. They'd be small, surely, snakes didn't get much wider than her arm. But today, Zehir wouldn't be dealing with her usual snakes. Oddly enough, she actually saw a little green one slithering through the field. "It's a bit too cold for that," Zehir mumbled. She followed it, wondering where a snake would be heading on a day like today. The grass reached the top of her shins, but Zehir could still listen for the snake when she couldn't see its shimmering scales.

It seemed like Zehir followed that little snake for hours, and she was about to see if she'd been going in circles when they'd reached a cave. It was a huge gaping mouth, and it didn't look natural. It looked like it had been burrowed through by some perfectly round object. A man-made drill perhaps? She walked into it and hung back in a shadow as she observed. Zehir noticed that the cave had many holes in the ceiling which aerated and lit the place. It was also full of snakes. Snakes were just hanging out in piles of scales and tails, and she wondered how much venom she could get from each one. She also saw a tree towards the end of the cave.

"A tree? Why would there be a tree in the middle of a...wait." It was not a tree. Zehir followed a scaly trunk all the way to the roof of the cave, and saw a serpent's face staring right back at her. It's eyes glowed with malevolence, and it had obviously spotted her. Zehir had no time to think, she twisted around and ran as fast as she could. She heard the sound of a million hisses as she thundered back to Gaoling. They didn't seem to follow her out of the cave, but Zehir ran until her adrenaline died down.

How much venom could she get from all of those snakes? This thought crossed her mind a million times as she walked the rest of the way to town. There was no way she could do it on her own, but...there was no way Zehir could ask for help. What if they berated her for asking in front of the entire town population, and they all laughed at her and ran her out of town? It was a ludicrous situation, but Zehir imagined it vividly. What if they did help her, and then killed her after she got the rare snake venom? But even worse, what if she went the rest of her life knowing that she'd missed the biggest snake hunt of her life? She swallowed hard as she walked into town, she was as ready as she'd ever be.

She started very small, she just started saying "excuse me" in a light, barely audible voice as people passed. This didn't work for some strange reason. So she had to step it up. She walked into an inn and quietly told the bartender her story, whispering to him that she needed some help. The bartender was happy to oblige and explained the situation in a booming voice, embarrassing Zehir by pointing her out and calling her a "sweet young girl". Her face would never be redder.

Mako had travelled to Gaoling, he wasn't really sure why. It was kinda of a spur of the moment decision. Once there, he regretted it. The people here were poor, and life appeared to be difficult. He remembered times when he had fallen that low, in fact, he was there at the moment, though his newly bought travelling clothes weren't a real giveaway.

He hardly recalled a time he hadn't struggled, but he brushed that aside as a pair of men approached him, each walking on one side. He had no money, and knew he was about to be pickpocketed by one of them. Each brushed by their respective side, he felt a brief contact as their hands searched his pockets. He felt no lighter once they passed.

He chuckled lightly, slipping into a bar that was to his right. He really had no money at all, so he scanned around, hoping to find a girl who might be convinced to buy him a drink. No one visible was there, and he frowned, all in pairs, or in groups. He sighed, and took a seat at the bar, though he simply laid his head down, and didn't order anything. He found himself listening quietly to the announcement, slightly unconvinced by the story. A giant den of snakes? Mako had seen a lot of things, but never a community of snakes.

He chuckled lightly, raising his hand, he didn't look like much compared to some of the other men there, but he obviously felt confident in his abilities. "I'd like to see the den at least, no harm in that.", he said, his voice was calm, and broke the still air with neat precision.

(OOC: Don't worry, I won't assault Mako, just needed an excuse to be in the pub.)

Kako Anthropos

Gaoling, it was possibly one of the dullest places in the Fire Nation. At least, that was the view of Kako Anthropos, spymaster of the Fire Nation and all around badass. Still, Gaoling was certainly preferable to sitting around in his office all day, twiddling his thumbs and shouting at whoever was unfortunate enough to knock on his door. Although, the later did provide some good entertainment from time to time.

Nevertheless, Kako was still quite bored, that is, until he saw a familiar face. Is that... It was. Mako Irion, also known as the little shit that left me to die. This trip might be slightly more enjoyable than I thought. Kako grinned, and licked his lips, it was time for some good old fashioned assault. The only problem was, he was unsure of where to do it exactly, what he had planned may cause collateral damage, and Kako had absolutely no desire to involve the common folk in anything.

Obviously, the only solution was to tail him, a task that wouldn't be particularly hard. So, he did, and Kako soon found himself following Mako into a comfy-looking inn, Kako cursed under his breath, there was no way that he was going to achieve his goal in there, but patience is a virtue, and he soon found himself moving towards a corner of the room, where a particularly rowdy bunch of lads stood. Kako moved in close to them, close enough that he wouldn't be noticed, yet far away enough that they wouldn't start anything.

The room fell quiet, however, when the bartender started to yell about a den full of snakes that the "sweet young girl" standing next to him had discovered. Kako wasn't particularly interested in snakes, he'd seen them before. He perked up, however, when young Mako decided that he wanted to go on the little trip. He'd hit the jackpot, of that much he could be certain. After Mako spoke, the pub was relatively quiet, the silence punctured only by cynical murmurs, regarding the bartender's tale. Until Kako emerged from his hiding place as he volunteered himself, his voice noticeably gruffer than Mako's.

Zehir

Zehir made a quick motion for the two that had spoke up to follow her after it became apparent that no one else would come along. She opened the inn door and walked outside. Zehir chewed her lip as she wondered if three people would be able to get the job done. Maybe if she knew the abilities of the others, she wouldn't be as worried, but she wasn't willing to ask them any questions because of her natural fear. She looked over the two of them, one seemed to be in typical fire nation garb, so maybe he was a firebender. That would help control the snakes, he would be an asset for crowd control. The other was big and tough looking, muscley and all, he could probably help with the big snake. And Zehir would throw as many knives as she could.

But what would she adorn those knives with? She thought about the contents of her bag and the kinds of poisons she had within. She could use a paralyzing poison, it wouldn't actually stop the behemoth because of its sheer size, but it would slow it down quite a bit. She also had some dissolving poisons that would eat away at the snake, but it was so big Zehir wondered if it would do much damage. She nodded her head as she decided to paralyze it. The whole time she was thinking, she'd been walking down the dirt road that led out of the city. She hadn't said a word to the two men who she assumed were following her. She'd yet to noticed the bitter relationship that seemed to pass between them.

And she wouldn't be saying anything unless she was asked. Even then, she would have trouble answering; stammering and stuttering were guaranteed. She looked back at them and happened to glance at the scar on the large man's face. She turned around immediately.

It had to be awkward behind her. Two men who had an apparently bitter past were now following a girl with a quest she wasn't willing to talk about, explain, or even point out. And they had no idea the walk was a few hours long. Nothing but grassy hills would be seen for a while, and Zehir's story would surely come into question eventually. But for now, they'd just reached the edge of the town.

Mako was silent, he knew that voice. His eyes became slightly feral as rage pulsed through him, and he glanced back with such a venomous stare that it was clear he thought so little of Kako that he would have crushed him instantly if he'd had the chance. His hands were clenched into tight fists, his knuckles white. Mako had never hated anyone until this one person ruined the life of a young dragon, and slaughtered it's mother. He was sure Kichiro wouldn't be too happy to see Kako either, luckily he wasn't with him.

He looked back to the girl, ignoring Kako's existance altogether. He followed after her, barely aware of each step, his hands were still clenched. What luck that of all the trash that happened to acompany him it was this murderer, this murderer who Shula had apparently not cut down to size yet. He made a mental note to be there. He wanted to see the look on his face when he is condemned for the murder of a dragon. He closed his eyes, lucky he wasn't falling into a mad fit of laughter at the image. He often wondered if he had gone a bit crazy. Sometimes he couldn't justify his anger, or depression, he supposed that's often how it goes.

Kako Anthropos

Kako noticed Mako's rage-filled stares, and shot back an indifferent one. Kako wasn't particularly mad, he was just bored, and out for something to do. Now, it seemed, he'd found it. Kako returned his gaze to the small girl leading the trek, she looked at him, and then immediately averted her eyes, as if she was frightened.

When he noticed this, Kako suddenly found himself a bit guilt-stricken, so he decided to go talk to the girl. He softened up his voice slightly, and tried to make himself appear less threatening, and with that, he increased his walking pace ever so slightly, in order to catch up with the girl, resting his hand on her shoulder as he reached her. "Hey, kid." he said with a smile. "Don't get worried, you're in good company." That being said, Kako could never resist a good insult. "My friend Mako here is very well educated when it comes to snakes." he turned back to Mako, and mouthed the words: 'Because he is one.'

Zehir

Zehir had been orienting herself to the trail, trying to remember when she'd gone off of it and for how long and far, when the larger man put his hand on her shoulder. She shivered and slid out of the shoulder touch. She turned around, her face obviously uncomfortable. He was smiling, but that scar...Zehir listened to what he had to say though. Apparently the other man, Mako, was educated in snakes. Her eyes lit up a little as they do when you mention someone's passion and she gave him a smile. The man had successfully made Mako less intimidating, but he'd have to do more than a shoulder grab and smile to make Zehir completely comfortable. Normally a person would be a obliged to say something in reply, but Zehir was perfectly content with nodding her head and continuing her former pace.

The walk would last another hour or so, Zehir crossed her fingers that there would be no more social interaction. She just needed some extra hands for killing, not extra friends for...well...what were friends for anyway? Zehir wouldn't say she'd never had a friend, but she didn't particularly know why she'd want one either. She got lonely sometimes, but she could easily remember how people mistreated her and feel perfectly fine in her solitude. But, she had these two now, and she'd have to try to interact with them a little.

Mako walked silently, practicing an old trick he picked up from an old waterbender. His breathing was long, and calm, eventually his anger faded. He closed his eyes as he walked. imagining himself as a leaf, allowing the water to flow off him, the water being Kako. He let out one last breath, and his anger was gone.

He needed a clear mind anyway, snakes were sensitive creatures, better not to arrive angry or they'd likely bit him first.

Kako Anthropos

Kako sighed, he couldn't help but feel that he was going to be the only one making any type of conversation for the entirety of the walk. His glorious leader was obviously quite shy, and Mako was just trying to hide the fact he was angry. Probably just using mumbo-jumbo. the spymaster inwardly scoffed. Kako looked back at the girl, noting how she perked up when he mentioned snakes, and he took this as a sign of keenness. Each to her own I guess, some like sports, others like...viciously murdering reptiles, I think that me and her are going to get along just fine. It suddenly struck him that he in fact did not know this girl's name, so he decided to ask, despite the inevitable mumbling he suspected would follow. "My name's Kako, by the way, so now you know mine, what's yours?" Once again, he attempted to look friendly.

Zehir

So the scary man's name was Kako. It actually made her smile a little, she found his name to be silly. She wasn't as nervous as she was before, and she only stuttered a little when she was asked for a name back.

"Zzehir," she said, the beginning of the word sounding reluctant and hidden away. She turned her red face away from the others, she was still nervous, but she was also excited. The huge trove of snakes was coming up, and she'd be in for the venom harvest of her life.

Zehir did not worry about whether the third person presented their name, but as they approached the cave, she realized she needed to talk strategy. So, instead of talking directly to them, she began telling her strategy to the wind.

"F-f-f-f-f--f-ighting a mob of snakes isssn't easy. I-I've done it but never— at this scale. We need fire to sc-scare away the bulk of the snakes. I'm h-hoping I have that with me. As for the big snake, I need— the strength to take it down. I r-r-r-recommend getting rid of it like a tree, but— remember it's a tree that can eat you. I'll be throwing daggers covered in poison which will— slow down the big snake. They'll add up, I-I think, and make him easy prey." She did not even look in the direction of the other two when she spoke. It was one of the longest groups of words she'd ever uttered. But it was still riddled with stutters and pauses, which embarrassed her greatly. They still had time to talk before the cave came up.
