Kima Banerji

Kima, as usual, was walking the streets of Ba Sing Se's Lower Ring with a smirk on her face. A few people waved; others held out their hands for a few coins. Sometimes they stared at her; she didn't mind this. In fact, when people stared, she would put up her fists and quirk an eyebrow, as if daring them to say something.

She was supposed to be in school; there was always some place she was meant to be. Glaring up at the hot sun, she wondered for a moment where Roti wandered off to. A moment later, she shrugged the thought off; they always managed to find each other in the end.

"Shouldn't you be in school?" a cross woman asked from the porch of her dingy shop; inside were novelty toys and secondhand clothes. Kima glared at her too, and kept going. She was glad she looked nothing like an Upper Ring kid, people around here would've jumped her already for the fine silks they wore.

Instead, her white tank top and black cargo pants fit in perfectly with both the location and the heat. She could faintly hear some kids shouting and yelling, and headed towards the sound to see if she could either join in or cause trouble. As she rounded the corner, she could see a bunch of filthy kids playing earth soccer; she didn't stay hidden, and merely stood watching in the opening of the alley with her hands on her hips.

The kids didn't notice her, and that was quite alright; she waited for a few minutes, and when the ball went off course and bounced towards her, she kicked it back towards them. One of the boys picked it up and looked at her; she looked back, raising an eyebrow.

"Thanks for the ball, but you can't play. Our teams are full," he explained. She smirked. He thought she wanted to play? How cute.

"Why would I want to play a game like that?" She returned, a bit of acid on her tongue. For some reason, this nice and reasonable kid seemed like the sort that should get pummeled.

"Well, why not? There's nothing wrong with it." Another kid spoke up. Kima threw back her curl-covered head and laughed.

"Rolling around in the mud and kicking a few stones up to guide a ball is your idea of fun? I see I'm not needed here; have fun," she said, her tone indicating that she had something much better to do. She waved a hand airily at them, turning to go, when the first kid spoke again.

"What, you got something better in mind?" came the indignant tone. Kima's head whipped around, and her hard brown eyes meeting his for a moment before she looked him up and down.

"You babies couldn't take it," she sniffed, dismissing them.

"Take what?" A curious older girl demanded, standing behind the first boy. Her arms were folded and she was glaring at Kima. Kima flashed her a big, sweet little smile but there was something about her eyes that made the motion sardonic.

"No, that's alright. Unless.... well, no, you couldn't take that either," Kima lead on. She had them now; a fight was guaranteed and she tightened her brass knuckled gloves with anticipation. Oh, how she loved a good fight.

"Unless?" commanded the second kid. Kima rolled her eyes; the kids who had been playing all came to gather around in a loose circle, some watching with interest while others picked at their nails, waiting for the game to resume.

"Someone was willing to fight me; if you win, I'll tell you how to have fun and get a new ball," she grinned. The leather ball the first kid held was beat up, tattered, and torn in two places. At least half of the kids looked up now, some stepping forward with interest.

"Fight you? Too easy. You're like, what, four? Get outta here pipsqueak, before you get hurt," the girl said, showing the rough side of the Lower Ring kids. The first kid held up his hand though, sizing Kima up.

"You're on." He said, and some of his friends let out a few whoops and clapped him on the back. He grinned like he was a hero and stepped forward.

Oh, puh-lease, Kima rolled her eyes, putting her fists up and widening her stance, ducking her head slightly and blowing her bangs out of her face.

Roti

Roti, as usual, stepped out of school earlier than he should have. He wandered the lower ring, looking for some trouble he could stop. He'd surely be the hero today, he'd stop a gang or two, get the key to the city, and watch as a parade was thrown in his honor. It would be a wonderful day.

He did, eventually, walk into trouble, but it was not the kind he wanted to see. He watched as his little sister expertly picked a fight, and he had to wonder if she realized how short she was compared to her opponent. She ducked her head in a professional sort of way, and Roti looked to see if she was packing her brass knuckles. She was indeed, he already felt sorry for that other kid. He still had to help though, he was Kima's older brother. It was probably his fault that she was such a trouble maker.

He quietly bent some dirt into the opponent's eyes and watched as he visibly winced. That would put his concentration off a bit. Roti would watch from afar unless Kima was in too deep. Well, that was his plan anyway, but his nature took over and he simply had to shout, "Punch 'im in the teeth, Kima!"

Bolin Ishigawa

'Twas another regular day in Ba Sing Se. Work drew him here, as it often did, but he was not terribly used to being this far north. Still... he did what paid the bills, and he did not mind a long journey. It was not the first time he had gone to Ba Sing Se, and would not be the last. there were far too many contractors up here.

He had a little cottage on the fringes of town, but he much preferred his southerly home outside of Gaoling, and he did enjoy travelling. Thus, he lingered around.
He left home and arrived in Ba Sing Se during the late afternoon. He slept for most of the evening, waking up early and starting to work.
The work was time-consuming, but otherwise fairly easy, and Bolin did what he was assigned to, collected his pay, and decided to spend an evening or two here in the Impenetrable City.

Or rather, an afternoon, as it were. Sure getting up early was not much fun, although when one worked one of those early jobs, it also allowed them to finish sooner, and therefore have more of the day to themselves.
He went home and changed into some clean clothes, shedding his boots in the process as well. After this, he went about his usual ritual of wandering the town and meeting various people. It was just in his nature to be social like that. He was an easy-going fellow who could get along with nearly anyone.

He whistled a pleasant little tune as he walked, quite familiar with his surroundings. It seemed that he was wandering right around the time school was letting out... or perhaps he was just running into the sounds of boisterous class-skippers who had jumped ship a little bit early. He heard children's voices, and decided to follow them.

He was generally a mediator in adult issues, but he knew (or believed he knew) that one of the best ways to solve a child's dispute was for them to work it out (or fight it out, as the case may be). He had no intention of getting involved.
"this isn't my fight. I don't know who they are, what they're doing, or anything else other than that they're a bit boisterous and noisy. Nothing wrong with a bit of dirty fun."

he chuckled to himself, filing in behind the ranks. his height over most of the young crowds gave him a decent view of what was going on, and so he decided to do as his old friend Zhin had once told him--simply smile, and observe. the information he sought (if any at all) would come to him sooner or later.

putting his hands in his pockets and tapping his toes against the stone of the streets, Bolin Ishigawa stepped back and watched the upcoming little fight.

Kima Banerji

As the remaining kids spread out into a loose circle, Kima's opponent edged closer before taking up a stance that was a little too narrow for his height. He winced and she smirked slightly; she didn't bother looking around for Roti, she knew he was here.

Suddenly, she heard an encouraging cry. "Punch 'im in the teeth, Kima!" Kima smiled slightly as cheering and jeering ensued from the other kids, as if trying to boost the morale of the kid she was fighting--apparently his name was Zunain.

The taller, older kid moved first, attempting to bend the rock under her to make her fall over. She merely lunged forward as he did so and did just as her brother had instructed--she punched him as hard as she could in the mouth, the brass knuckles busting his lip open. Immediately it began to ooze blood and Kima moved away from him while she smirked.

He tried to wipe the blood off, but more followed and he merely narrowed his eyes at her. She gave him a sweet smile, knowing that he had underestimated her. Ducking her head under a full-on haymaker, she moved to sweep his legs out from under him. The inexperienced kid fell onto his back, breathless, and Kima put her foot on his neck, yawning.

"Too easy," she sniffed, wiping a smudge of dirt and blood off of her glove before helping him to his feet. While she was a rough-and-tough, deck you in the face kind of gal, she had the courtesy and fight etiquette to help a defeated spar partner up.
