| Shortly after dawn - Ba Sing Se - Southern Gate.
Two children chased each other around off to the side of the road. One was a cute little brown haired girl, no older than seven. Than a rambunctious boy, freckled and energetic, maybe a year or two older. They must of been playing tag. She used to play that game with the few children in her village when she was young, before they began to hate her. Mieko pulled her legs in closer to her chin, the memories of her hated past lapping like the ocean against the coast.
Nothing had been the same the last few weeks. Since she slipped in to the Spirit World. There was a lot of confusion clouding her mind. But what answers were needed to clear its fog?
Nowhere to be found was her traveling companions. Had that demon in the swamp taken them back to its realm? We're they even alive? All she found was that beetle she and Kross had been riding on along with her pack and her Fire Nation clothing she now wore since her other clothes had been ruined. That good beast took her out of the swamp at least, and a ways further before it had collapsed and died. Was she fated to lose everything that meant the slightest of value to her on this trip? None of her new friends had emerged from the swamp on the other end when she waited three days in worry. She couldn't loose much else now.
The loud cracking of rocks broke through the crowds rabble and tatter. The south gate had been opened. Mieko looked up to see people were already on the move towards it. She hefted her light figure and pack up from the earth and moved with the crowds for the gate. The faster she got in the less time would be wasted waiting for the tram to get in to the cities heart. Mieko was distracted by her inner turmoil to be impressed as she was when first she stepped foot in to this very city. Once clear and to the station she rested her back against a wooden pillar to await the next tram. A new path to take was taking shape as the old one had collapsed quite well. Tsu, Kako, Hirako, Kross, dead or alive? A question she wished answered deep in her heart.

| It was always a long long way to Ba Sing Se, or so went the old songs. Zulera had been here on numerous occasions, especially with her running rivalry with the Earth Queen, where they would go to the Great Divide and have epic battles and smash things.
The Avatar was a strange creature indeed, as many people could testify who had met her. Wild and unpredictable, she feasted upon the element of surprise, allowing her chaotic nature to govern her life. There was no telling where she'd be, what she'd do, or even really, what she'd wear half the time.
at the moment, Zulera was jsut taking what could be called a joyride on the monorail. Unless people recognized her, the Avatar was just seen as another Water Tribe woman, although she was dressed lightly in an unusual style of clothing. her short sleeves and her pants were baggy, and while she had armored gloves that many warriors wore, she was barefoot like many earthbenders.
she was deep in thought as she usually was, mostly as she started to envision her next work project. A statue, tall and grand, metal plating, hinged joints. She wanted this baby to move. It made ehr wonder how to power it... perhaps bending? But, that might limit her customer base if she did that.
Either way, her mind was in thought, and few people mpaid the Avatar much attention, either figuring her to just be some short, unimposing waterbender, or simply out of indifference. Zulera was similarly indifferent, even when the tram stopped at a station. She didn't get up or get off--her joyride wasn't done.

| Two Earthbenders halted the tram as it neared the end of the line. The hulk of stone came to a halt when they stopped. Mieko broke away from the wooden pillar she had rested against. She was almost reluctant to move anymore, but forced herself to keep moving forward. As soon as the other passengers departed, she boarded with the intent of getting a seat. Which she did.
Mieko sat near to a Waterbending girl who she had noticed didn't hop off the tram. Seemed odd someone would just ride it all the way out here and not get off. What a perplexing person but now was not the time to ponder such things. Heavier burdens weighed on her mind at the moment and not much else. Her pack slipped from the tentative precipice that it had clung to on her shoulder to the seat between her and the Waterbender. Mieko slunk back in her seat as others boarded, though not as many had climbed aboard as she thought. Maybe most were held up with customs, she hadn't been paying them much attention either. The tram suddenly lurched forward and scurried towards Ba Sing Se proper. Mieko sighed and rested her arm on her pack.

| Generally if people were guessing as to what Zulera's intentions or behavior were, she considered it a success. However, she appeared to be deep in thought to the point of not really noticing the girl who sat near her, other than casting a casual glance before putting her forehead in her hands, which was one of the ways she would ponder and think about things. She was envisioning things at the moment, and so was somewhat aloof.
She didn't own or run a business proper, but she certainly did business. some of the things she built were mechanical; others were simply cool-looking. Along with contemplating it, she was also relaxing the rest of her mind, despite not even really overworking herself in that regard. Surely she came off as anything from eccentric to downright crazy, depending on who asked, and some even believed she had some sort of mental disorder. Perhaps she did.All that was really clear was to wish good luck to anyone wishing to figure out the many things that make her tick.

| Mieko shifted her eyes to the right. She didn't notice it at first when she stepped on to the tram. But right next to her was the one and only living Avatar. Of the millions of people she'd run into, it had to be her. "Lost my friends, plagued by nightmares and now you. Life seems to just want to kick me into the dirt 'till I'm buried and lost forever". Mieko sunk her face further in to her hand. Why did life seem to hate her so, only the unluckiest gambler has ever been dealt so many raw hands as she's been given lately. And she was a really good gambler.
"You here to knock the walls over or something. Or is it really life hates me"? Mieko wasn't even looking at the women, she had lost all cause to care anymore.

| Zulera was struck out of her trance by the woman next to her, who seemed to be speaking--or rather, complaining--to her. Now, Zulera, ironically, did not mind being falsely accused of things. No one had any hold upon the wild woman, so if her reputation started to exceed her actual deeds, all it would do would make her go out there and start doing more things. She couldn't be all show and no go... no that would not do at all.
"Life does tend to hate people who do little more than complain." Zulera pointed out as she idly leaned back in her seat, letting her bangs cover her closed eyes. "for they see nothing but the negative aspects of life, which in turn fuels their beliefs."
she waited for a moment--a beat or two at most, before continuing. "So are you going to tell me what you are accusing me of doing, or am I going to have to use my imagination?" Zulera was not very good at being the kind of "savior of the world" Avatar. It was not that she lacked the skill either--just the interest. She saw no reason to make everyone's problems become her own, especially on this type of level. For Zulera... she simply never cared to begin with. should she lose everything, she could rebuild. should she lose her friends, she could make new ones. should she lose her family, she could still contact them in spirit. Should she lose her own life... she would just reincarnate. Her few risks and vast returns made her a dangerous character. However, right now all she was was a 30-year-old woman on a tram.

| "Chaos always follows you. I didn't accuse you, I asked what you're going to do"? Mieko removed her hand and finally took a good hard look at the woman. Dark skin, blue eyes, the clothing. The exterior wasn't what people cared about though. It was the power inside this women that they... feared, revered. Whatever they thought of her. Mieko just knew from stories this Avatar usually brought bad omens. She laid a small smile on and stuck her hand back to prop her chin on. "To damn early for this. I need breakfast". | |

| "such a question becomes an accusation when uttered from the mouth of one who fears chaos so." Zulera replied, her eyes still covered by some of her wild hair. Even from the exterior point of view, it was still rather clear that Zulera was someone wild; exotic, perhaps. Those who had seen her bare back would attest to this.
Most of the bad stories surrounding Zulera were either told by her enemies, or by people who in truth knew nothing about her apart from irrational fear of the woman, be it for her power, her intelligence, the big scary mechanical creations she was rumored to be working on, or mostly just because no one really knew what made the Avatar tick. Even Zurok, that crafty old witch from the south who had given birth to and raised her, didn't know everything about her daughter--despite her having been the same way to an extent during her own childhood.
"so tell me... what do you believe?" she asked, not caring about the other girl's hunger or sleep issues at all. "Am I a monster? is this truly a beautiful world or does the sky blanket our perception about what is transpiring? Do you believe those old fool's tales that say I come at night to snatch your children away, or am I simply a woman who needs to be knocked off my high-ostrich horse? Surely there is a reason for approaching me, no?" There was always a reason, even if the reason was just chance or randomness. Zulera used that reason a lot, but she had seen others use it as well. Now it was just a matter of waiting for an answer or a reaction.

| Meiko grinned ever so slightly. The Avatar was certainly trying to paint an image of herself here. She may not be a monster or a child napper but she wasn't free of any crimes. "You have your issues and you know your past. I didn't seek you out to patronize you". The Fire nation woman sighed. She had no personal quarrel with the Avatar, though many did. It was becoming obvious that this was the persona she needed. Ever since that monster had attacked her and her companions in the swamp. And her trip in to the Spirit World, the creatures she saw in there. Ran from. The nightmares she's attacked with every night. Surely the Avatar might be able to help. All the connections lead her to believe so now. "I guess fate took me to you. Look I'm sorry if anything I said may of offended you. Maybe theres something I should tell you. Not now though, I ask if we could talk in private. And maybe after a bite to eat". Mieko still had her grin on, maybe looking a bit hapless. The fear hidden behind her eyes was there though. | |

| "and even with that in mind, there is still so much to doubt or believe. Do you doubt me? do you believe me? for you are required to do neither, least of all believe. Close one's eyes or open one's arms... either way, one's a fool."
Zulera was a woman of many secrets, but her behavior was not one of them--quite the opposite, it was very straightforward how she acted. It did not always make sense, but Zulera was simply being herself instead of putting on masks or deceptive personas. She was hard enough to predict as it was.
"you can tell me anything." she shrugged, her face still concealed, "what I do or where I go is still a mystery, after all." this was actually completely true. Zulera had no plans as to where or when she'd end her joyride, but she could tell that a random stranger wishing to speak with her meant some sort of request for help. Zulera would listen, and then decide from there how willing or not she'd be to provide her services. That was how she went.

Kazma and tow rode on with great haste towards the tram rail. He had with him three other Black Fang members to destroy the tramway and ambush the Avatar. There was no preplanning for this assault. Their spy tailing the Avatar had sent word she had boarded the tram and with no reported supplies, didn't seem likely to be leaving Ba Sing Se. It was rushed and undermanned but there would be no way for any help to arrive before they finished. Spirits forgive what they were about to do.
The tram was not in sight. A good sign as they still had some ground to cover. Their Ostrich Horses thundered across the small roads that crisscrossed the farm fields and rice patties. Kazma's armor clinked violently. "Once we reach the arches, you two will wait for me an Lao to block the tram. When we do, get up and block their retreat. Subdue the coachmen and we clear the civilians if we can. Than we take her down! Do you all understand the plan".
"Sir" his three subordinates shouted at once.
The Ostrich Horses leapt across an irrigation ditch. The last obstacle in their way. The final field was crossed shortly and they were below the arches of old stone. They de-mounted and gathered up. All four placed their fists together and spoke in unison. "Black Fang guide us. Let us lay down your judgement on those that we seek. May the eternal dusk take them forever to sleep". They broke their bond and hurried to lay the ambush. Kazma and Lao shifted a piece of stone for them to ride up the arch. Both hopped on and bent their way to the top. Kazma's two other men did the same but held from cresting the edge.
The tram was in view as they stepped on to the track. They just needed to hold for a bit longer. Holding fast. "Now"! Large jutting pieces of stone were wrought upwards to block the track. The coachmen on the tram slammed on the bending brakes to keep from crashing. His two other subordinates blocked off the escape rout. All according to plan. Now to the next step.

| "Well I guess I can tell you now". Mieko fidgeted with her hands, running the silk cloth of her kimono through her thumbs and forefingers. "I was in that big swamp far to the south. The one next to the ocean. Monngy Swamp? Me and my friends were attacked by". Mieko was cut short by the braking tram. Her and anything else went shifting towards the front of the tram. This included unsecured luggage. Her bag wedged up between her and the Avatar. Other peoples things and their owners all headed the same way. Mieko yelped in surprise.
The tram had come to a complete halt. Everyone was beginning to peel themselves from the floor or toss luggage off themselves. There was someone shouting for them to get out. What was going on? Mieko righted herself. "We can't be in the station yet, or crashed"? The yelling continued, rather clear now. Everyone was to get off the tram and they would be escorted to safety. Whatever it was something went wrong and someone was trying to help.

| One of the reasons Zulera was so tricky and so dangerous was because she was so good at making things up in the heat of the moment. She was swift to act and even swifter to react. She did not have any carefully constructed plans that she worked off of most of the time; she usually just took a quick glance at things around her and worked with what she had. sometimes it went awry, but most of the time, it saved her 30-year-old hide.
She listened to Mieko's story up until she was jolted out of her near-stupor, and that set off enough alarms in her head that she no longer cared about the story, or anything that was said otherwise. Using her bending to open the roof, Zulera sprung up and on top of the tram, quickly getting a look around at what happened. She knew that this was not a normal stop given the suddenness and the panicking, and so whoever these goofy bastards that were trying to escort people off the train, clearly had something much more malevolent on their minds.
Sticking to the roofs of each car, she began sprinting towards the front of the train to see what had blocked them. If it was a natural disaster, such as a caved in stretch of track or something else similar (she thought this unlikely, as the weather had been fine), then she'd dismiss these premonitions. Otherwise, she was pretty sure that this was something man-made, and that someone was looking for something--or someone.
approaching the front of the train, she called out. "what the hell's the big idea here?" Whoever they were, they had made two huge mistakes. The first mistake was messing with Zulera's recreation. the 2nd mistake was thinking that she would follow orders of any kind.

The Avatar had already made her presence known, quite loudly too. Kazma glanced over at her for a half second but went back to the task he was already preforming. Which was helping a very well aged woman over the rubble and into the clear portion of track ahead. "The idea right now is to get these people to safety! Please watch your step mam". Kazma held a woman's hand for her to have some support. "This is my current priority. I shall be with you as soon as I can". That was just Kazma though, nothing said about his men.
The two who had assaulted the rear coachmen were quite unoccupied. They'd clamored to the top of the rear car. Together they broke a chunk of the upheaved rock and hurled the boulder at the Avatar. The rock was thrown with such force it was not even going to get the chance to dip down.

| Mieko had watched as she still thought of what to do punch her way up through the roof and accend outside. Whatever was going on the Avatar probably had a good sense for such things. Mieko jumped up and gripped the holes edge. She swung her leg over to one of the baggage racks to help herself up. She wasn't strong enough to get all her weight up the way things were. Mieko popped her head out to see two men readying a huge boulder. A look backwards gave her the position of Zulera. They were under attack. "Zul look out"! The rock was flung and the fier girl dropped from her ledge back down into the car. Her ass made a big thunk when it hit the floor. No time to waste on the soreness. She needed to fight!
Mieko got herself to the back of the car and forced the door open. It took some effort to budge as no one else had made but a passing attempt to open it and opted for the other end of the car. Mieko flung herself into the daylight, holding by but a hand from meeting an easy fall. The kinetic energy and her hold pulled her back round. She was out on the open ledge. One of those boulder hurling goons in sight advancing.

| Zulera Joanna Tallarico
| Zulera was familiar with the Keynesian-style of heroism that a few foolish people tried to perform. They would create a scene, and then try to act the hero as they cleaned up their own mess. strangely, a memory from some past life hit Zulera's mind. this particular incarnation called it "Syndrome Syndrome", but that didn't make any sense to Zulera at all. Still... an unusual man appearing right at an unusual stop trying to unusually get everyone to safety instead of trying to fix the damage in front of them? it was just a few rocks. it might take some precise earthbending to get the track straightened out again, but this was no reason to cause an evacutaion unless someone had planted a bomb or something.
No, no... this was not adding up. Momma had taught Zulera better than that. "Maybe if you hadn't fucked things up, this wouldn't have happened." she retorted. it was a bold accusation to make, but what Zulera saw was a mess and then a stranger suddenly trying to be a hero. Zulera hated heroes. However, her attention was swiftly diverted as the sound of broken rock was hear behind her; barely hearing someone shout 'look out'. it had sounded like that girl she had just met, but Zulera did not know where she was or what she was doing. Hopefully she was safe and well for her sake; for Zulera was not about to make it her problem.
doing a full 180, she took the rock head on. Perhaps if it had been a massive fireball or a blast of wind, it would have caught her off-guard, but Zulera was definitely at an Avatar level with earth--her 2nd element. spirits know what she could do then, with water. in the moments before the rock would have blasted her right in the face and left her a bloody splattered mess against some flat surface, Zulera calculated where to hit, and she lunged forward, striking with a certain precision to her motion. Those plated gloves of hers came in handy for this.
After essentially diving through the attack, shards of rock flying everywhere, she put 2 and 2 together enough that she didn't care if she was a few points off. She was pretty sure that this wannabe hero pretending to help people, was in direct coalition with the goons behind her. Well... it was time to chalk up the ol' scoreboard. it wouldn't be the first time someone had attacked her... and the first time they had actually succeeded would not be today either.
However, being surrounded by rock shards, especially around earthbenders, meant that it was time to keep her earthbending in high gear. moments after reducing the boulder to shards, she pivoted on her foot, one of her arms facing the two thugs, and her other one pointed towards the hero-pretender. naturally, these are the two directions the rocks went in, and they were accelerated a bit by some added airbending. At the same time, she was also anticipating to see how much of a coward this man was. if he was shunting people this way and that, they'd be easy shields for him, since he would be anticipating a counterattack if he knew of her awareness. If he didn't... then Zulera might have just killed an innocent and unsuspecting man in cold blood. Oh well. it would serve him right for trying to play a hero.
as the shards were launched, she followed up immediately with large jets of frozen water (so ice) that made similar shards. they might be able to throw the rocks back at her if they were earthbenders, but they'd either have to aim each and every rock alarmingly well, or come up with a damn good avoidance strategy to avoid the spikes. As chaotic as Zulera might have been, she was very good at what she did, being a master of the cool and calm level of control that a lot of bending disciplines required. A woman who proclaimed herself to be the epitome of chaos... and yet she appreciated and understood discipline. What an ironic combination.

Kazma and his ally were swift to react with a wall of stone to protect themselves. Some of the projectiles went over their barrier and laid down three people. They hadn't even the chance to see it coming. Commanding the stone with a punch he broke its base and swept it over the edge. "Everyone run, we'll deal with the Avatar"! The crowd of passengers broke and ran. They would likely spread word of the dead by the time they reached the station. Far to long for anyone to come to the scene of the battle before it ended. The propaganda value though would be immense. The Avatar murdering the innocent as she attacked some would be good doers, as tragic as it was. Would lay a royal flush for the Black Fang no matter the upcoming outcome.
The two who hurled the stone had the attack backfire of them pretty well, and returned double fold. The one skinnier fellow slipped downwards and into the hole Zulera had made earlier. The larger fellow was not so lucky. He was filled with jagged objects and either they killed him or his fall to the ground brought him peace.
Kazma drew his Katana and shifted back his right leg. "Avatar! I am Kazma Ikezawa. I will avenge those you cut down this day. Your reign of sorrow over this land shall end and the Fang shall see to it"! The Demon as he was known, kicked up a stone and threw a fist to shatter it to dozens of smaller pieces. All hurtling towards Zulera at a breakneck pace.

| [OOC--I do not apologize for the reference. not even a little.] Zulera Joanna Tallarico
| Sometimes, Zulera got away with things using a well-placed bribe. Other times... she needed a well-placed bolt. The coward in front of him unsurprisingly deflected her attacks, but not surprisingly, had made no effort to "protect the innocent" as he claimed to be doing. No, there was no honor among cowards, and especially no honor among hypocrites.
Those who were familiar of the Avatar's reputation knew that she had a shady past--especially in the Northern Water Tribe. However, she had connections that would sometimes save her; other times, she basically had to sell her soul to them. the Earth Queen was one of a handful of people that, should she call upon a favor, Zulera would have no choice but to oblige. she knew that the old queen was not above bribery or blackmail, and any attempts to expose that corruption, while it may be able to knock Meili down a peg, would hurt Zuelra much more.
One thing that made her different though, was that when she committed a crime, she would own up to it. Often times, she took blame for things she didn't do. The real trick to framing Zulera, would be to find proof of her treachery. Perhaps this was why she had not been executed in the North by now. Time would tell to see if the Avatar would atone for her crimes.
For now though, it was time to deal with the coward in front of her. The Fang... she was pretty sure that was a band of assassins or mercenaries or something. That right there would be Zulera's trump card in ensuring that anyone wishing to accuse her would know that this was a setup. She had dealt with mercenary companies before; faring differently depending on the group... but she was still alive now and not disabled, which meant that she had had at least marginal success. She'd have to find out more about them first though, and that would be later.
Instead of being angry though, Zulera's mind was simply racing--quickly and efficiently; cutting no corners, and yet zipping around with the efficiency of Flo dashing about a diner. "Come now," she retorted, as she used a powerful gust of airbending to slow the shards just enough for her to send them right back in a wilder array, "even someone as base and honor-less as you would surely know better than to try the exact same thing I just did, no?"
ironically though, she did not launch any other attack, instead merely backflipping to add a few extra feet of distance between the two of them. her stance looked defensive, but she was on her toes, almost waiting to counterattack most likely. that was what waterbending was about. earthbending was mostly about rock solid defense and determination, and since these were Zulera's two best elements (although she was still quite skilled in the other two), defense, as well as using the enemy's power against them, was her primary game. However, also being a master of surprise meant that she had plenty of other tricks up her sleeve--making things up as she went.

Kazma deflected off the redirected attack off either edge of him. He nearly broke a smile for her. "Base and honor-less you say. You know naught how I operate nor my past to be making bold accusations. But I know some of yours. And today your history speaks ill of you". The last referring to the three bodies behind him. Kazma was in need to bring this battle to and end. The Avatar was one of the greatest benders and being the only one able to wield all four elements gave her all the more advantage. Though at her age their paralleled skills may still edge out in his favor, she had others. You also couldn't forget the Avatar state. Should she decide to enter it her power would immensely multiply.
The leader licked his lips. "Well we best continue". Kazma glanced over to Lao, one of his comrades. He swung his sword downwards than back up. Twirling it all three hundred and sixty degrees back around. All the signs his battle buddy needed. They were ready. Kazma propelled himself into the air via bending and landed on the front edge of the first car. Lao went low (while Kazma was the big show) along the side of them below. Kazma broke up some of the stone tram after landing and hurled two pieces towards Zul. All while he charged right behind them quick as he could to fight close range with his sword. His friend was readying his portion of the plan. The 3rd and final of the former assassin quartet was fighting Mieko two cars back.

| "it only takes one time." she retorted without skipping a beat. "any honor you may have had was sold here and now in a vain attempt to stop a woman you know nothing about."
she decided to turn up the heat--quite literally. She did not have enough water to trigger one of her more dazzling displays, She was an opportunist, willing to take advantage of even the sklightest opening. she assumed the sword-twirling was either some form of gang sign or some form of showing off, but it was an opening nonetheless.
The main reason Zulera didn't consider herself a master firebender was because she had a bad tendency just to unleash power instead of taking deep breaths and controlling with with precision. Still, a reckless and dangerously fast barraage of explosive fireballs was a threat to be considered by all but the most foolish, who would be consumed in the flurry.
One thing Zulera did admire about airbenders was their ability to be evasive as well as obnoxious. Zulera might not have mastered the art, but she could at least suspend herself in the air with a sphere of wind. instead of trying to counterattack this, she simply jumped off the tram, kicking up a gust of wind to keep her from faceplanting on the ground below.
since she was using her feet to keep herself "afloat", her hands were free, and there was a good few meters between her and any solid ground. She decided to use this vantage point to not only avoid direct physical contact (although she was quite confident in her hand-to-hand skills, if maybe a little *over*confident) but also to launch ranged attacks (namely, fireballs) at her two opponents. No... there was no caging in the Avatar. Thus, instead of having to worry now about one in front and one in back, now she just had to aim one hand at the leader and one at his sidekick. Bonus points if one accidentally hit the other. Zulera's fireballs were swift and forceful, just like a lot of her firebending movements. when they hit, they had a slight popping effect to them. it was enough to chip some of the more solid stone, but any rocks that were not quite so solid would likely shatter or at least be slowed. She kept her calm "I own you" style of smirk on her face as her barrage continued. her eyes scanned everything to ensure that she didn't somehow get backstabbed or outmaneuvered.

| Mieko ducked under a rock. She would of lost her head on that one. Dagger claws of fire sprouted again from hands. She charged at the Earthbender full force. Close range fighting was her preference. With abandon she clawed at her assailant on accusations of her working with the Avatar. Heck she'd only just met the Avatar maybe a half hour ago. Mieko swung up. The man dodged just barely. The flames heat would of felt intense next to his face. He came back with a roundhouse kick to her chest. She couldn't of stopped it or gotten out of the way if she wanted to. This guy was just to good.
The kick knocked her back with such force it tore the bandages and sent her rolling, tumbling really. Backwards where she came to a sitting rest against the back of the car. The assassin bent stone holds around her wrists, ankles, and waist. Her breath was totally gone from that kick. She couldn't bend in this state. Her head hung low. Bobbing with her short gasps crying for reprieve.
"I'll be back for you miss once we've dealt with the Avatar. The assassin smashed out through the wall to join the others. He started hurling head sized boulders fast and hard at Zulera.
Mieko chocked again. A hard lump keeping her from getting much air. Tears from the pain streamed down her cheeks; ruining her makeup. She was out of the fight for now. Maybe she shouldn't of tried to help. Zulera is the Avatar after all, how could she possibly need anyones help from just a few benders?

Kazma hopped out of the way of a fireball. This woman had a lot of tricks in her bag. "Sold my honor. Thats funny. I've given the last twenty years of my life to stopping those who rule or act like tyrants. Those who abuse their power". Kazma bobbed under a flurry of constant bombardment all while conversing. He plunged his arm into the arch and pulled off a cylinder of stone covering the whole forearm. "I'm just a messenger of death though. Here to carry out my orders".
Kazma grasped the stone and fractured it to tiny pieces. He held it together and aimed it up at Zulera. "Besides. Honor is almost all I have left". A furious volume of stony fire hailed outwards from his arm. Actually it was hail where he got the idea from for this attack. One day he was traveling in the northern mountains for another contract. When the light snow turned to a hellish rain of hail and nowhere to hide but under the bodies of the dead and dying he learned something along the lines of rate of fire. You can hurl a ten ton boulder every once in a while. But acting like hail you can launch hundreds or even thousands of tiny pebbles at great speeds. It was a novel bending move for the defensive Earthbender types. Now if only wasn't so hard to master.
Lao hurled larger rocks while trying his best to not catch on fire to much. His clothing was already singed, but at least he wasn't a human bonfire. Kazma's third man had incapacitated that Firebender girl. If it wasn't for the need to focus on fighting he would of wondered where he was. Now that the trio were all in on one target she'd be forced back on the defensive. It was time to see what Zulera the Avatar was made of.

| Zulera was light on her feet and swift enough in the air to prevent herself from getting hit (well, most of the time.) She was also tough, Water Tribe stock, which helped her shake some of it off. Those waterbenders were a hardy folk; arguably as resilient as the Earth Kingdomers. while they may not have all been quiet as solidly built, they were used to extremes, and were the most adaptable of the four benders.
"a slave to lies then..." Zulera sighed. "it's a pity when people with such skill refuse to free themselves. Instead they have to compensate for their own lack of freedom to try and steal the freedoms of others. I am Avatar Zulera, slayer of the corrupt. If you truly understood that you would have long since discarded your foolish and misguided ideals." She closed her eyes.
Zulera actually did have a rather itneresting resume as far as slaying tyrants went. She was rumored to be behind the death of the warlord Earth King Lei; she was behind a string of three corrupted Northern Water Chiefs in a row, and she was the one, who, after the War of Tipped Scales, had executed Fire Lord Novai. It did not mean she was without sin, nor does a good deed necessarily make a bad deed okay. But it seemed clear from this man's speech, style, and approach, that he knew nothing of who she actually was and what she actually did.
as she finished her little spiel, her eyes opened again, glowing a prominent cyan shade. her air sphere grew in size until it encapsulated her, the fierce winds blasting the hail-sized stones away, and shattering some of the less dense ones into powder. her mouth opened, and she spewed a stream of flames to swirl around her air sphere. with this activated power, she emitted fireballs from the vortex in the directions in front of her. these were aimed less precisely than before, but Zulera knew that she wouldn't have to shoot them behind her or to her sides, which would prevent a lot of collateral damage.
she gazed through the flames, and was contemplating charging head-on, engulfed in the swirling fiery vortex that she was encapsulated in. For now though, she retained her aerial vantage point.
dance, motherfucker, dance...

"I'd rather be a slave to the common folk I work to help; than be the Avatar who has failed to realize she's neglected the very task that position entails". Kazma raised some shields to protect them from the Avatars wrath for a short while. "We fall back, we can't and won't win like this". The others nodded in acknowledgment. While she was in the Avatar State, they could not kill her. Not that they couldn't try. But if they did it would shatter the Avatar cycle and plunge the world into eternal chaos. And thats something the contract holder would, well everyone really, would like to skip on.
Out of sight thanks to the stone shields they the three remaining started to make good on their escape. Kazma and Lao bashed through the first car and the other fellow already had a nice hole to go through. They slipped off the far side of the giant tram archway. Using stone gloves like the Dai Li does to control their decent to something quick but manageable. It wasn't in the fate of the cards today. But they would meet again, that was certain.
The earth proper made them feel a slight bit safer at the moment. But Zulera could come screaming down on them at any moment. They needed to flee fast... laying before him was the crumpled and crushed form of one of his men. Kazma stalled. His mind said go but his feet stayed. Lao thankfully broke the spell over him when he handed the reigns to the Ostrich Horse over. "We will give him a warriors burial when we can sir. But the battle is not yet over for us to preform that duty" Lao's voice was unsays, but he was right. Kazma mounted up, taking a last look at his soldier and promising to return.

| Zulera's voice in the Avatar state was much more resounding than the gentle tone the woman normally had. This was to be expected though. "you have been blinded by your own corruption to not see the truth. You know nothing of what I do; nor what I have done. You are meddling in affairs that you have neither the skill nor knowledge to be interloping in. You have brought this misery upon yourself."
Zulera knew that they were moving once she noticed that the attacks had stopped coming her way. the lack of movement was her indicator. She jetted herself upwards so that she was directly above the train, able to see both sides of it. unless they camped out inside of it, she would see their way of escape.
sure enough, she spotted them, and he stalled just long enough for her to be hot on their tails. It did seem that her Avatar State was subsiding, however, but that did not make her that much less of a threat. Zulera's calm and cool control over her emotions had helped do wonders with her control over that ability, causing it to be rather easy to trigger. Even then though, she did not use it often. that had been the first time in a while, in fact.
She was not aware of much else regarding the dead man that had briefly halted them but knew enough that he had been affiliated with them. "if it weren't for you, he'd still be alive..."[/i] her voice almost seemed like a whisper. She stalled only for about a second (okay, maybe 2 seconds), before firing herself towards them again in hot pursuit. Hopefully they and their ostrich-horses knew how to dodge fireballs, because that was what Zulera was throwing at them now.
