The feet of their mounts stormed down the pathway. Shade and sunlight flickered like a candle flame blown by a slight breeze. A ball of flame landed like a trebuchet shot in front of them. They bound around the flames and pressed their mounts to ride harder. The Avatar was evidently not satisfied with just a tactical victory. She wanted them all dead. Kazma wasn't going to stand for that though. She was now down near his own turf with access to an infinite amount of material.
"You two go on ahead and get back home now. I'll draw her off". His men though loyal enough, were not dumb. They weren't going to argue when they could save their own hides. They fled down the path as they were. Kazma veered off to the right. His beast sprang over a low fence and they entered an empty field. Well, a potato field, but the situation wasn't worth the investigation of the topsoil to determine if there was anything growing here. His dismounted while still moving. The dirt parted under his weight and the ruts stumbled him but he kept upright. The Ostrich Horse kept on for a short while. Coming to a stop a good ways away.
The final stand was to be here. One would achieve some sort of victory. For the other it was undetermined. Kazma drew his blade. Time to properly duel.

| Zulera was persistent, and when she had a goal in mind, she did not stop until it was either accomplished or became impractical (or alternatively, if she found a better solution). She felt no remorse for this, as this foolish man had brought it upon himself; hypocritically accusing her of wrongdoing when he was going about doing the same thing. It was that strain of people that Zulera held in the highest contempt.
even this close to the ground and the earth, Zulera did not worry. She was confident enough in her own earthbending skill that she viewed herself as at least this man's equal. With that knowledge in mind, she wasn't worried. When they split off though, Zulera took what was perhaps the road less travelled. Instead of taking Kazma's bait, she instead took off against the other two men. Their delusion in following a misguided man would cost them dearly. Moreover, it would serve as a reminder that their deaths would be on his hands. He had brought them out here on this suicide mission, and Zulera was going to rewrite that to him bringing them out here to die. With Kazma out of the way for the moment, having most likely assumed the Avatar would follow him, Zulera kept the heat on the other two with the intent of bringing them down.

The Avatar didn't take to the challenge of Kazma as most warriors would. It was honor-less to slaughter a commanders retreating men when he was willing to fight on for them to escape. But there was the fact that she was, maybe not as professional as him. His men were a cut above the regular mercenary stock though. They already knew what they were going to do. Under cover of a thicker section of the tree laden path they ditched off their rides and purposely entered the lightless reaches of the earth. Out of sight, out of mind. By the time Zulera realized this they'd be long gone.
Kazma paced about a small track of the potato field. He danced with the grace of a master through a pattern of sword strikes. Zulera was still in his sights above the trees to the east. Wether his men were still under pursuit was undeterminable. Kazma was still fit to fight though if the Avatar came for him. She'd be getting tired using all that powerful bending for as long as she did. The Avatar State does inflict a toll.

| As soon as she realized that they weren't attacking, and instead were simply fleeing, she relinquished her Avatar State, but continued in hot pursuit anyways. She was a little winded, but had plenty of fight left in her, and didn't want to drain her strength right away.
Zulera wasn't stupid, and so was not about to fly over a large thick of trees to try and pursue opponents who had a cover. once she reached this point, she lowered her altitude and zigzagged through them, continuing her pursuit. As they disappeared into the thick of the woods, Zulera landed gently on her feet, resting against a tree. the practicality of her goal had just been eliminated in her mind, and so she called it off just as easily as she had formulated the idea. A woman of chaos; a creature of mystery; a master of doing things in the heat of the moment or on the fly. Such was Zulera's nature, and the secret to her success.
She rested against the tree quietly and casually, taking a bit of time to ponder what had happened. the stuff about spirits that that firebender girl whose name Zulera had already forgotten, had piqued her interest. Her arms were a little tired from the motions of shooting fireballs, but her legs were almost perfectly energized. So... she simply did a 180 and began to walk briskly back in the direction she had come; back towards where the tram fight had taken place. Immediately she was back in her 'routine' of not having a routine. She was simply wandering.

Kazma halted his sword play. The sounds of her wrath had ceased. They must of gotten away. Kazma sheathed his blade. Today they may have failed in their objective, but he'd not come away with nothing. They would strike again, but they would make sure to be more prepared unlike today. For now though he'd no reason to stay. Kazma turned about and walked to his Ostrich Horse. He grasped the reins and took one look back. "Tough girl". Kazma sprung to the saddle and strode off down field. He'd be back soon for his comrades body.

| Mieko's head rested back on the exposed stone wall of the tram car. Her bindings still held firm. Someone would come for her eventually, but it would be many hours until than. The Avatar had given chase to those who attacked the tram and she'd been powerless to stop any of them. The man she had battled today didn't even break a sweat taking her down. The fact she even lasted as long as she had was probably just luck, and the man holding back. No tears had been shed for some time. The makeup it had coursed down her cheeks to the base of her chin was still wet. It was irritating and she could do nothing but let it dry. This feeling of frailty washed over her consciousness. She never again wanted to be so hopeless. Her journey these past years was to find herself, and finally she'd found a path to travel.
'See the world and be enlightened'. That is what Qim said a few weeks before he passed. Now she knew what she finally wanted, but was this what the old man meant? A few more tears slipped downwards to stain her clothing.

| Zulera continued this walk, considering it a success. She had lost nothing in the deal, and had reminded some sort of misguided renegade vigilante of his place. As she walked, she contemplated what might have happened if she had confronted Kazma. Chances were, she would have retained an aerial vantage point to keep the earthbender at a disadvantage, and rained her fury down upon him.
But at the same time... what was life without a bit of fun. It was amusing to toy with her prey; to send them running. Zul had done it once... she'd do it again if they were foolish enough to persist.
For now though, she'd return to the tram--or what was left of it. She had left a bag there anyways. There was nothing of any real importance in there--just some odd trinkets, a few coins, and a sketchbook and pencils. maybe the money would be gone, but it wasn't very much and there was nothing really telltale about Zulera's possessions unless someone knew her intimately or closely.
she remembered what car she had been in, and so when she found it and her bag, she was also surprised to find that little firebender girl bound down by stone bindings. half of her was surprised that her pants were still on.
"well... seems my princess isn't in another castle after all." she leaned over before snapping her wrists, causing the bindings to easily shatter. "what are you still doing here?"

| Mieko finally freed of her shackles and allowed to move her slightly stiff joints firstly grabbed the edge of her kimono to wipe away some of the tears and ruined makeup. "I tried to stop one of the guys who attacked you when he slipped down here. I wasn't a match for that guy. And he bent those bindings". Mieko sniffed. She drew her legs upwards and rested her arms on the paralleled knees. "Maybe I should of just kept out of the way but how could I". Mieko looked up and into the eyes of Zulera. "Is your offer to listen still open"? She shifted her posture a slight bit, stone was not comfortable to sit on for any extended period of time, and her butt rather ached. | |

| Zulera kept her distance to let Mieko sort her own pains away. She had healing skills of her own, but wasn't sure where, if anywhere, Mieko was injured and so didn't bother asking or bringing it up.
"well, I sent them running with their tails between their legs." she reassured her. "must've been pretty easy for them to put 'em there without any balls." they had been cowards trying to catch an unarmed Zulera in a moment of surprise, and fled the moment they realized they were hopelessly outgunned, even without Zulera's Avatar State. That'd be an interesting tale to tell.
"sure." she replied directly to the question, "although let's find a better place than this wreckage. it isn't very comfortable... or very sightly if you ask me." she began walking towards the exit of the car, although did not have "a better place" in mind. she just assumed Mieko would decide on somewhere, if the issue was important enough.

| "Yeh". Mieko was just as direct in her own response. She did not want to be spending much more time here then necessary, they had a long walk ahead of them to get to Ba Sing Se proper. She raised herself up, a bit wobbly on her feet but the feeling was finally coming back in them. She'd be right as rain in no time other than the bruise that was forming on her chest. That kick was pretty devastating but it hadn't broken any ribs and she was thankful for that. Mieko prodded the area. Wincing a bit from the pain when she pressed to hard. "Least I'll live". She dug her hand straight in her shirt and ripped out the torn bindings. They were tossed aside, not worth making them into bandages or anything. "Best we get walking". She quickly fetched her pack from the bench it still rested on, slinging it over her shoulders and met Zulera at the doorway. "Ohh, I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Mieko. Thanks for rescuing me and all". She blushed a bit, feeling a bit dumb about the way she was acting earlier with all the rudeness and such. | |

| with the way Mieko was massaging her injuries, it almost came off to Zulera as suggestive or as some sort of subtle hint of some kind. Either way, it didn't bother her, so she simply ignored it.
"'welcome," she replied, not bothering to give her name since Mieko apparently already knew it. "lead on." she didn't have a destination in mind when she had boarded the tram; she had been joyriding. Surely Mieko had not been the same way, and so she'd let the younger (but taller) girl lead. She was still ultimately just in this for the ride, sticking around primarily so that she could sate her ravenous curiosity.

| "Welcome? Ya, ok. Thats just about the oddest response I've ever gotten from a person. Or did she mean your welcome or not. And I need to stop talking to myself she's looking at me". Mieko adjusted the position of her pack before she hoped down from the car. There wasn't much space between the edge and the car so she didn't want any forward momentum taking her over. Slowly she brushed forward to the safer location ahead of the tram. She was stopped dead cold, by the dead. Three dead bodies to be exact. The ones Zulera's redirected attack had struck. Mieko flung around with a frozen facial expression of fear, shock and that that one you get when plunging into icy water. "Dead bodies. You didn't warn me there were dead people". Well it wasn't exactly common social courtesy that this situation came up to much to think about it. But that still wasn't going through her mind at the moment. | |

| Zulera had indeed been simply saying 'you're welcome', and it shouldn't have been too difficult to figure out or at least assume. Having fought in wars and been responsible for plenty of death herself, it did not faze Zulera at all.
"you didn't ask." she retorted. had Zulera been Mieko, she would have assumed that it'd be common sense to expect to see some dead or injured, oor at the very least, a little blood. Maybe the girl was hard on hearing and hadn't heard the ruckus that had gone down from outside? Zulera didn't know and didn't concern herself with it.
she shrugged and continued walking. the dead were not about to come reanimate themselves or anything.

| Mieko truly hadn't seen her share of dead. Sure seen been to funerals before, where the dead were dignified. These were just people cut down, fresh. Mieko skirted the corpses and ran after Zulera. She kept silent as they walked miles and miles down the tramway. An army patrol sent out to investigate passed by on either side of them. The two kept low so they wouldn't have to deal with all the questions and arresting that would be going on with them. Neither would be up for any of it. They just kept moving on.
Time Skip
They'd made it through the station with no issues to speak of. Currently they were at a little hole in the wall restaurant. It had its charm, lots of steam and smoke, little bits of decor to liven the thing up. It was nearing noon already and Mieko's stomach had been clawing at her innards since forever ago. And the smells were only worsening it. The cook was this big McFuckhuge guy who was built like a battleship. If they determined the king of the Earth Kingdom by size this man would win hands down. It was good the building was made of stone so they could just make it higher to accommodate this guys height. Mieko had already ordered her food. The pangs of hunger blocked out any interference to obtaining her own. So wether Zulera had ordered or not was unknown, but she hadn't eaten anything since real early. The cook hashed out her plate and she instantly dug into the rice dish. The cook gave off a smile, happy to see another... well, happy customer.

| Zulera kept a low profile most of the time--all the time, unless she saw a good reason to change that. the walk towards the great impenetrable city was not one of these. So, she remained quiet, and was just another barefooted water tribe girl. She frankly wouldn't mind answering questions, but she wasn't about to go seek out authorities to report it to. If they came to her, yes. otherwise, no.
* * * * *
Zulera seemed appreciative of her surroundings and the smells of the restaurant. it was homely and the service was good. she had ordered something that sounded like it would be bursting with flavor, and so when it came and Zulera tried it, she was pleased to find that it was in fact, bursting with flavor like it had been advertized. She ate in silence, simply out of a lack of having anything else to say.

| Mieko was spooning back her meal pretty quickly. The fact it was all freshly cooked; thus piping hot. Didn't bother her in the slightest. After all, she was a Firebender. Since they left the scene of their first meeting they had barely said a word to each other. Favoring the silence as they had walked. Maybe talk would have distracted the girl from her hunger. Mieko did get kind of one tracked when she was starving. A rather obvious statement. Half the considerable portion size was gone in under three minutes. She set the spoon to rest on top of the food. "So Zul. I guess its time we started talking. How much do you know about the Spirit World"? Mieko had cocked her head while she was asking towards Zulera. Their cook was in easy ear range but was not going to make a fuss about anything. Talk of Spirits was kind of taboo. He just kept on cooking and waited for the Water Tribe clothed woman to continue the sure to be interesting conversation. | |

| It was hard to figure out what went through Zulera's odd mind sometimes. she kept so quiet and tended to stay really cryptic. she ate in silence, which helped her eat faster since her mouth could be occupied on just one thing.
upon hearing the question, she was silent for several minutes, eating her food as if she had not heard the question. However, after a moment, she answered. "I know a decent amount, be it good bad or ugly." she answered. "Why do you ask?"
her mother knew far more about it than her, perhaps ironically. But, Zulera didn't even toot her own horn, and so mention of her mother would only come up if somehow Zurok's name came up. Zulera was not a liar; she simply did not tell people what they did not explicitly ask about. It made her difficult sometimes.

| Zulera seemed to be one to take her time. With no quick answer forthcoming Mieko returned to her meal to wait out for an answer. Mieko was scraping out the last of the rice when she finally decided to speak again. It was an awful long time for such a short answer, but it was enough. "Do you remember earlier today when I was telling you about that big swamp in the south. I was traveling here with a few other people I'd met in a town to the east of the swamp. Well, deep inside we were attacked by what I can only now think to be a spirit. It had powers like nothing I'd seen or heard of before". Mieko paused. She ate the last of the rice and set the spoon down. "I was knocked out by an explosion. Than I...". Mieko paused for a bit, pulling back memories from the well of her mind. "I woke up inside the Spirit World". | |

| Suspense was one of those things that Zulera also appreciated. she felt no remorse about taking her time, although it had only been about 60 seconds. maybe 90.
"there are stories of people other than the Avatar visiting the spirit world. it is fully possible. I've heard stories of a little blind girl from the Fire Nation being able to traverse the two worlds at will. It was strange, and certainly had no correlation with her bending." she shrugged, finishing the last of her dish and downing it with a glass of water. "Spirits have also taken people into their world before, and do so for various reasons. I cannot think of a correlation in those they take, unless it was in their wrath."
she paused for a moment, taking another sip of water. "So what are you getting at, exactly?"

| "Well. While I was there. I saw other spirits like the one I had, they were a blackish purple like it was. They destroyed everything that came in their path, and they were fighting other spirits that didn't seem, corrupted". Mieko flashed backed to her time spend there. She'd been looking down at them from a hill for a short while before they took notice of her. And like everything else they attacked. She didn't stand their to fight or be frozen in fear. She ran as fast as she could to get away. The hill and giant tree roots bought her some time but they moved faster and faster it seemed. Nothing stopped them, and hot on her tail they nearly got her. Something brought her back to the material world, none of her friends were in sight anymore.
Their cook was leaning in on their conversation. When Mieko snapped back to reality she looked up at him as he was mouthing a wow. The big cook quickly recovered and did something to seem nonintrusive. Mieko trailed back in like she'd never stopped the conversation. "Than I was back, alone. I waited for my friends on the far side of the swamp but they never came. And ever since I've been plagued by a nightmare. Just something that sounds like a person mumbling. Than I wake up in a cold sweat". She truly hoped the Avatar had answers. Whatever could explain what she saw, and maybe the nightmare. The two had to be connected in some way.

| "muhhhh..." she mumbled, as if to muse, "last time I got dragged into the spirit world I met a malevolent past life. he coulda given me a run for the money." she chuckled. "but ultimately, spirits are like us. they can be good, evil, or, like in my case, simply neutral and/or indifferent. Many of them war against each other the same way humanity does. They are not too different than us in ways like that."
Zulera frankly didn't mind if the cook listened in on them. This was not a private story of Zulera's, so she didn't care how many others heard it. She was the Avatar. she did what she damn well wanted to do. "and so..." she replied afterwards, "you think that there is a spirit... haunting you now? or that it stole your friends?" She half-assumed that this would culminate in a trip to wherever the spirit had been encountered, as well as a battle. But perhaps Zulera was thinking too far ahead. Mieko was telling stories as opposed to asking questions or making requests. But, that was Zulera--a very difficult woman to understand, be you a friend or an enemy.

| This little Firebender girl wrapped up in things she didn't entirely understand. But who would when it came to the actions of spirits. "I've no idea what it may have done to them. But I blame it for whatever it did to me. I don't want to live with these nightmares forever Zulera. I want to go back to the swamp and face it, force it to stop". Mieko looked downwards for a moment. "I can't even best some Earthbender though. That spirit, it might of even bested Kako; and he was an amazing Firebender. I won't be able to confront it alone, so". Mieko cupped Zulera's left hand between her own. Her eyes locked with those she pleaded to. "Please Avatar, I ask you for you to travel with me and lend your strength. I doubt theres anyone else alive brave enough to fight an evil spirit. I need someone strong like you; and you don't often have the best there is to ask. So please, help me"! Maybe others would help, but who really could stop a spirit of evil but the Avatar. Zulera was one of the few in the world who could help her, and she was near enough begging for her to do so. | |

| "Kako, you say..." Zulera knew Kako... mostly from what she had heard of him from Meili. the two seemed to be in pretty strong cahoots with each other, no less. what they did behind closed doors was none of Zulera's business though, and so all she knew was that the two were basically demigods of some sort.
"and so... what do I get from it?" she asked, "you do know that some spirits will attack you if you trespass on their lands, right?" She might have been overlooking some details (well, either of them, perhaps), but Zulera did not want to go on a wild ostrich-horse chase, especially if she was not going to get anything out of the deal. Sure it was selfish, but at the same time, Zulera did not see her existence as being for the sole purpose of running people's errands.

Three figures had been standing outside the little restaurant long enough to here this girls story. Tragic really that spirits do such things to such innocent of folk. The light obscured them to be simple shadows to those inside the restaurant. Kazma had not come to cross blades again though. He had lost the battle for today. In truth he'd come to inquire about his comrade who was slain today. When Kazma returned to give the body a fitting burial it was nowhere to be found. A mystery, but Avatar Zulera was the only person present who could have desecrated the corpse. With present facts. His spy had kept tracks on the Avatar since they arrived back in the station. Kazma was not going to outright accuse the woman of this foul deed; rather seek the truth. On the current note; he was rather infuriated.
The three of the Black Fang parted the hanging cloths in the doorway. Kazma's heavy footsteps herald his presence. "Avatar Zulera Tallarico". The samurai braced no weapon and took no stance to attack. "I witness myself why they have us hunt you. Your greed stays your duty maybe? Or is it you don't wish to hold the responsibility of being the Avatar and live free of what comes with the power". Kazma walked a few steps closer to the two. "You'll just let this girl rot won't you"! Kazma's right arm drove to his blade, but his left fought against it. He could kill or cripple her if he lashed out now, but his honor held his fury at bay.

| Zulera's head instantly turned, for her easily distracted mind could just as easily snap back to reality. "You." she retorted, keeping an infuriating calm to her tone and expression. "It was and remains your misguided delusions that brought about the deaths that occurred today. I left them there as a monument to your lies and cowardice, even. I am not sure what you want from me, but if you're going to make demands, at least ask politely."
she continued to glare at them, keeping her calm. the moment she saw them, she had anticipated an attack, and under the table, her toes were curling as if to prepare to spring her back. it'd be better to awkwardly launch herself backwards than for her to get eviscerated. "So tell me. what right do you think you have that you believe enables and entitles you to judge what someone else does with their life? Tell me, where is your omniscient authority that gives you this power, for I and my mother would likely take great interest in it."
People did not simply manipulate Zulera. Zulera simply manipulated people.
