Though she had never been there before, the free clinic in Fire Fountain City was fairly easy to find, thanks to directions that Jurishe had procured from an elderly woman in the town square. Hopefully the healer here would be willing to take the young waterbender on as an apprentice - at least temporarily anyway - and teach her about firebenders... since that was the whole reason that she wanted to further her medical skills.
Jurishe had dressed up a bit nicer than usual, to make a good impression (she hoped); her hair was brushed out and tied with traditional Water Tribe braids, and her clothes were freshly washed as well.
Peeking in the front door, Jurishe ventured a small, "Hello..?" When there was no immediate answer, she stepped inside... and promptly set off a series of chiming bells, startling herself. "I'm sorry!" She yelped before she could stop herself, moving quickly out of the doorway, further into the clinic's waiting room area (or so she assumed it was). Realizing a few seconds later that the bells were just to alert the medics inside to her presence, Jurishe blushed, embarrassed by her reaction. Thankfully, there were no patients there to laugh.

| It was another fine day at the clinic, even if nothing was out of the ordinary or anything like that. Ordinary days could still be good ones, after all. Perhaps it was better than something horrible happening or something. Well... and it paid good money for his level of expertise, anyways. Akhet had plenty more to learn, but he was still a very competent healer and those who he worked with knew it.
He was the one to greet the patient that rang the door by walking through it, except that this woman did not look like a patient. She just had that look to her that said she wanted a job or something here, based on how neat she looked and the fact that she didn't seem to have any physical conditions. She was also kind of cute, but Akhet saw many a cute individual in his day. however, none could compare to his sweetheart Minali. And he wasn't just saying that--he had genuinely developed the mindset that his wife was the most beautiful and adorable woman alive.
"nah, don't worry about it," he smiled politely, extending his hand to shake. "Akhet Tallarico, at your service, Miss. What can I do for you?"

Jurishe had certainly not expected to see someone else from the Water Tribes here, but she tried to hide the surprise on her face as she offered her own hand to shake. This man seemed rather young himself, for a healer, though she was embarrassed that she'd noticed he was rather handsome too. 'You're here to learn, Juri,' she scolded herself, 'that's it - besides, he's probably already taken'. "Nice to meet you," She said aloud, without too long a pause, making sure to smile as well. She hoped that she hadn't stared, at least.
Clearing her throat slightly, unobtrusively, she continued, "My name is Jurishe Chuyin, from the Southern Tribe, and... well, I was hoping that one of the medics here would consider taking me as an apprentice, of sorts, so that I can further my training of the healing arts?" All she could hope, now, was that she had presented herself well enough to be considered... if Akhet was even the one who did the considering.

| It was true that Akhet's wedding ring was not on his finger at the moment given that he used his hands a lot and pressed his palms and fingers into people's skin, and so to have a piece of metal, even one that small (and beautiful), might be a bit intrusive. He kept it on him though, and it was always the first thing that went back on once his work for the day was done.
After the greeting and formalities like that were squared away, Akhet heard the young woman out, pondering her words for a moment. "well... I suppose it's a matter of what you want to learn. a few of us, myself included, have our specialties, but if you want to learn more, perhaps I can be of assistance. I guess first it would be a matter of me figuring out what you know first, so I can adjust accordingly." He was not the head healer here, but he was definitely one of the higher-ups, despite his age. Akhet was a hard worker and he did his job well. He was dedicated to the things in life that he enjoyed--healing, building... his sweetheart Minali... and so in those cases, he had some considerable expertise.

"Well, um," Jurishe paused, trying to figure out how to explain her previous experience, fiddling with the end of her braid as she did so, "I already know my anatomy, and those basics... I can do a bit with my waterbending, but I'm trained in first aide and herbal medicine, as well." It was the standard training for a medic in the Water Tribes, which Akhet would probably know.
Then, as a bit of a sheepish side note, she admitted, "I haven't had many actual patients yet, though..." Hopefully that wouldn't be a mark against her, but if it was, Jurishe would have to try somewhere else.

| Akhet nodded. "ah... so you know the chi flows and pressure points and such too?" there was really no shame in the medical field either, and so Akhet did not really make any sexual connotations with anything, other than mentally note that Jurishe was pretty easy on the eyes. "alrighty..." that did seem like fairly basic stuff, but he had met people who did not even have these credentials... it was... 'difficult' to accommodate them, needless to say. "so what do you seek to learn?" he asked. Surely she knew of some motions or disciplines that she wanted to develop. hopefully it would be something he knew and thus something he could teach. For one, Jurishe seemed to be a kind woman, and Akhet also enjoyed teaching people things he knew. There was no point in hoarding knowledge without sharing it.
"well... ihave you had any patients that you were particularly interested in?" he asked, referring to any that might have had a unique style of healing or something to them. Improvising and generating good results had caused the advent of many techniques, believe it or not.

Jurishe nodded in response to Akhet's first question, thankful that she was able to give an affirmative. "I know those as well, yes," She was becoming a bit more confident, now that she hadn't been escorted out immediately, "But... my training for chi flows was mostly geared toward waterbenders, rather than the other disciplines." It made sense, as there weren't usually a lot of visitors in the Southern Water Tribe, but it was a hole in her knowledge.
She was also thankful that the other question had been asked, so that she could bring up Katara's problems this soon. "I do want to continue my general training... but there is someone else that I'm trying to help right now, actually," Jurishe began, gratefully, "She's a young firebender, and her body just... gives off a ton of heat, for apparently no reason. I've never been taught how to really examine a firebender, though, so I'm a bit lost on what to do."
Then, so that Akhet wouldn't just request that she bring Katara in to the clinic, she added, "I'm - well, I'm almost like her caretaker right now, so to speak. She isn't very good with other people; there are a lot of trust issues."

| Akhet nodded understandingly. He got a lot of firebenders himself, given his location, although also a lot of Earth Kingdom individuals since the two were fairly close in terms of travel nowadays. The Water Tribes were a bit more isolated (although plenty of waterbenders travelled), and the Air Nomads were still just too few and in between. "I've got a bit of experience in most of them sans airbenders... but they're fairly easy to figure it out once you can learn the universal patterns. Even nonbenders have chi flows, after all." that was why they could be 'disabled' by chi-blocking as well.
He was definitely intrigued at the mention of this firebender though... overheating.. that sounded like an intense issue and definitely one he wanted to look at. If nothing else, it would be a learning experience for him as well. He had in fact been about to just suggest that Jurishe bring the girl in, but her next point had Akhet stop and think to try and find a better solution. "well... theoretically, I could just try and tell you, but I also do not know the magnitude of the problem. If she is afraid of people or trusting them... perhaps we could try and convince her to come to my home? I'm married, and I'll be sure to make that clear when she sees me." he did reach out and brandish his wedding ring at this remark. "I wear this all the time except while I'm healing... can't have my metal band digging into people's skin while I'm healing them, y'know?" he chuckled.
"but aye... it's just my wife and I at my house... so perhaps we could do it there... I can check her up and see if I've seen that problem before, and Perhaps then I could show you what to do so you could learn it?" It was a suggestion that seemed to make sense in Akhet's head, but of course, it was up to Jurishe. Akhet was not about to force her to bring in this girl if she didn't think that the firebender would be okay with it. Little did he know that this very same girl was actually running into his wife across town right now...

Yup; taken. Jurishe was thankfully able to keep herself from being disappointed, since she'd assumed as much from the moment she'd met the handsome medic. It wasn't like her to be attracted to someone so quickly, anyway. In fact... she couldn't think of a time where it had ever happened. Maybe she was tired of being alone and hadn't even noticed it, herself, until now..?
Pulling herself back to the situation at hand, she considered what her friend's reaction might be, to such a suggestion. "I could bring it up to her," Jurishe suggested, "If you think you could help fix whatever the problem is... I think she might be willing to come, so long as I was there as well." Then, as another little side bit of information, given with a slightly sad smile (simply because of Akhet's unintentional wording), "You'll need to tell her, though, about being married... She's blind, so having a wedding band on your finger won't tell her much."
A young, blind, overheating firebender who was otherwise alone; that was quite a bit for one person to be dealing with, and hopefully it would tell the older healer just why Jurishe wanted to help the poor girl.

| Akhet had little to no interest in anyone else's romantic life given that he was taken and that, well, it wasn't his business. Well, as long as it didn't involve Minali, but honestly, she was probably one of the last people he could ever imagine doing something like that. not that he'd ever do that to her either of course.
"I can tell her whatever she needs to hear," he promised, "and of course you'd be there... if it's at my house, my wife might be there as well... since she runs a toyshop in front of the place. but I'll let her know either way." he promised. He wasn't going to even be suggestive with this mysterious girl anyways. He was a healer and so seeing people undressed (or naked) was something he did regularly. it didn't bother him at all.
"and she's blind, huh..." he paused. This definitely did not sound like anything he had ever seen, and so he was intrigued, perhaps a bit excited, even... to see a case like this. "well... I look forward to seeing her then." he smiled. "hopefully I can help her, and perhaps teach you a few things in the meantime, aye?" He'd let her decide when top bring this girl in though. That was not his choice to make.

Though Jurishe wasn't exactly sure how she'd get Katara to be seen by Akhet - or, really, if he was trustworthy enough to bring her to, now that she thought about it. She would try her best, however, to break the subject slowly and get to know the medic at the same time. Strictly for the purpose of the healing; Jurishe had zero interest in trying to break up a relationship, thank you. In the meantime, however, she wanted to learn.
"I would like that," Jurishe offered another smile, "I really would like to continue my training in general, if you would accept me here?" Sure, Katara was the driving factor, but the young healer truly wanted to be able to do more than simply slap a bandage on someone and call it a day; she had seen such amazing things done by master healers...

| Akhet remained calm and professional (or at least hoped he did), because he wasn't looking for a relationship. He already had one and it was literally the best one he could ask for.Luckily for Jurishe, he wanted to teach her as well, (and it had nothing to do with the fact that she was easy on the eyes).
"oh, of course." he offered, "even if I am unable to help your friend, you are still welcome to train under me or anyone else here if you so desire. we generally get to decide who we are willing to mentor and such, and so if you are okay with me, I can arrange it. If you would rather have someone else, I can probably see what else I can do in that regard." He was keeping it professional, although also staying friendly

Shaking her head at his last offer to find her a different mentor, Jurishe politely declined and then began to explain why. "If I can convince her to come see you for a healing, I think that my friend would feel more at ease if I knew how you worked... if that makes sense? Taking her to the medic teaching me would probably be better than taking her to just anyone working here; in her opinion." While it wasn't a sure thing, the young healer-in-training was fairly certain.
The way he offered, however, made her sincerely hope that he hadn't picked up on her initial inner thoughts about him being attractive. That was a bit mortifying, especially since he was married, and therefore off limits. Jurishe wasn't sure that, in that case, she'd be able to get through the training without messing up - except she had to, for Katara's sake.

| Akhet nodded understandingly. "I can see where you're coming from." he acknowledged, "so would you rather she meet me here, or at my own home? The way you described her makes it seem like she doesn't like being around too many people, and so if that's the case, my home might be a better alternative." he suggested this in an entirely neutral/polite/professional tone, utterly devoid of any undertones as he could be. Besides, the main floor behind the toy shop was just the living room and dining room (and kitchen), and so it wasn't like they'd have to even see Akhet's bedroom.
If Akhet had picked up anything about Jurishe thinking he was attractive, he probably would have just taken it as a slight boost to his ego, but it wasn't like he was going to proclaim it on the mountaintops (heck. he probably wouldn't even tell Minali. there was no point in him bragging "hey sweetie! the girls at the clinic today thought I was attractive!" because for one that was a shitty conversation starter and for two, he didn't really worry much about how others saw him. the only approval he needed or wanted was Minali's). Luckily, he didn't want to do anything of the sort; he was simply offering to share his (healing) skills with Jurishe so that hers could improve.

"That's... a pretty good way to describe it," Jurishe confessed, "She's not great with other people at first - it takes a while to build trust with her. That's why I think she'd have an easier time if I could tell her about you myself, because she trusts me." Not that it was likely for Katara to think that Jurishe would take her to someone untrustworthy for a healing, but it would be best to make the young firebender as comfortable as possible.
Then, a little awkwardly, she ventured, "Do you think that maybe you and your wife could join us out for dinner, in a few days? Just so that she could meet you both before the examination?" Jurishe was almost too embarrassed to ask, since it almost felt like she was asking her (probably) boss and his wife out on some weird-ass double date.

| Akhet smiled understandingly, thinking briefly of how Minali was at one point. She wasn't afraid of people, but she was definitely not the most socially talented one out there when they had first met. (heck, even his and her first meeting had been... interesting). "that's reasonable enough," he agreed, "I wouldn't want her getting uncomfortable especially if she's wary like that..." tense and nervous patients were much harder to deal with, after all.
Akhet smiled at the suggestion. "aye... I'm sure we could work something out..." With the air of slight awkwardness floating around them though, he also ventured to pop a question. "although, if I may ask... what is your relationship with this woman? Out of nothing shy of curiosity, mind you. I just don't want to address either of you inappropriately or something." He was just trying to be polite, and didn't want to assume that they were lovers when they were actually sisters or something (or vice-versa), and thus he had asked.

Jurishe's face reddened instantly at the implications of that question. Holding her hands up defensively, she shook her head several times, embarrassed as all hell. "No, no, no; nothing like that! She and I are really just friends," She tried to explain, "We've just been traveling together is all. I couldn't - not - we're close, but it's more like sisters than... that..."
Not that the young waterbender was against that kind of thing. No, her embarrassment stemmed from what her and Katara were actually like. Thinking of her friend like that was the same to Jurishe as thinking about a younger sister like that; which was just... freaky, and just... no. She wasn't even going to go there.

So he had admittedly thought of it, but even if they were lovers or something of the sort, it wasn't like he would care much about. He just wanted to know so he could word his sentences better. "I just wished to clarify was all. It's not my place to judge anyways." he chuckled. "In truth... I simply couldn't find a better word to use, since 'relationship' covers anything from spouses to siblings. I apologize if I offended you."
The funny thing was, was that Katara might not have minded it, but that was because of her different mindset, but was neither here nor there at this point anyways. "So was there anything else you wished to ask of me?" Akhet offered,

Both gathering her thoughts and trying to get rid of her blush, Jurishe considered his question. She couldn't think of anything... Katara was her main priority, and she was glad to have been able to tell Akhet about the issues so soon, rather than waiting until much later (only to hear that nothing could be done).
Straightening slightly, she offered a smile. "Only to ask what you wanted me to do, for my training, and when you'd like me to start... Oh, and what you would like me to call you, professionally?" Jurishe wasn't sure if he preferred to be called Doctor Tallarico, or if he'd just want to be called Akhet - she figured it was best to ask.

| "mmm..." he mused about it. "perhaps for starters we could have you demonstrate your abilities and your know-how, so I know where to start you..." and of course when he had said "we" he was really just meaning him. he just kind of referred to himself as a collective when referring to his job.
"You can just call me Akhet, if you would like," he also offered, "unless you have a personal preference." he had met some who felt that he deserved more respect than that, but he was not about to demand respect form someone who did not know him or his skills. besides... calling him by name would not be an insult. He liked his name. As for how Jurishe would train, they had healing dummies designed for this sort of thing (originating from the Northern Water Tribe, it was a concept that grew in popularity for obvious reasons), since they didn't exactly want to main people just to practice healing them.

"I can call you Akhet," Jurishe agreed, "I just didn't want to offend you, if you preferred to be known by your last name at work, or if you wanted to be called a doctor or medic - something like that. You're going to be my mentor, after all..." While she wasn't brown-nosing, she definitely didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with someone teaching her for an extended period of time (that might make things unpleasant for them both).
The demonstration made the young trainee a little nervous, but she was confident in the skills that she had learned so far. Nodding, she agreed to show Akhet all that she had previously been taught by the Tribe Healer.

| Akhet smiled. "alright. I do appreciate the concern... thank you." He was definitely not the egotistic type to want people grovelling at his feet, but he did like a decent bit of respect, which of course, he would return because he was a man who practiced what he preached. "And I take it you go by Jurishe, yes?" Unless she had a nickname or shortened version that she preferred. He just wanted to know which one she liked best.
Akhet led Jurishe into a small room with one of the training dummies, allowing her to go ahead and demonstrate what she knew. It was not like the entire clinic needed to know what the young woman could (or could not) do, and so as long as the mentor was able to know these things, that was all that would matter. SHe did seem to have a good grip on many of the basics, after all...

"Jurishe is perfect," She agreed, brushing a stubborn lock of hair back behind her ear once again, "I feel strange when someone calls me 'Miss Chuyin'... It doesn't happen often outside of when I stay at an inn, but it sounds odd, to me." Jurishe honestly hated the way that sounded, though she didn't dislike her last name persay; it was a weird little thing.
Her initial demonstration on the dummy was naming each bone and muscle - which admittedly took a while, but she got each one perfect - and then pointing out different pressure points. Jurishe also showed Akhet how chi flowed through the body of a non-bender and a waterbender, though she admitted then that she didn't know how chi moved through airbenders, earthbenders or firebenders.
Next she described where different types of injuries were most fatal and what to do if treating such a wound. She offered to demonstrate her first aide skills, as well, since there are some things that need to be shown rather than told.

| Akhet Sumatra Tallarico
| Akhet on the other hand, was actually very proud of his surname. Well, and "Tallarico" rolled off the tongue so well. He did think that Chuyin was a rather cute surname, but that was irrelevant, and he was certainly not about to become attracted to a girl with a cute name. He was a professional man after all.
Akhet was there as Jurishe performed the basics, knowing her anatomy and chi flows fairly well. She knew that of waterbenders and that of nonbenders, although the other three were not in her realm of knowledge. There was, in truth, not a huge inherent difference in them other than the uniqueness of the person, but he'd get back to that after the demonstration.
Akhet accepted her offer to demonstrate how she would heal some things because she was right--showing in some cases, was better than telling--sometimes the only effective solution. Afterwards though, he'd go back to teaching her the chi flows of other benders, since she had mentioned that her friend was a firebender, and that she wanted to help her.

| Jurishe Chuyin

The demonstration continued, with Jurishe showing her practical first aide skills; this worked best when Akhet described a wound for her to wrap or bind, almost like a test of sorts. The last thing she showed him was her waterbending, though mostly just to prove that she could do it. After that, to her knowledge, she had given a full explanation of her healing knowledge - it had taken quite a while.
Sitting back on her heels, Jurishe looked up at her new mentor, offering a small smile, "That's... about it, I think." She wasn't sure if it was good or bad, but she was confident that she hadn't messed up, at least.
