Akira Shirogane II	Yes, that was the shouting that permeated the streets of the Fire Nation Capitol, that lazy, sunny afternoon. "I CHALLENGE ALL OF YOU!" Akira cupped his hands around his mouth, to make his voice even louder, "COME AND FACE THE MASTER SWORDSMAN! ALSO MASTER FIREBENDER!" His poodle-monkey danced nearby on the end of her pink leash, adding her screeches to the commotion. Looking at him, Akira seemed more like a master poser than a master anything-else. His sword was a useless hunk of metal and his clothes were too constricting for battle... Still, with his shouting, it might piss someone off; even enough to fight such a greenhorn.

Varsha Zere Zakau	Varsha always enjoyed the Fire Nation Capital. There was lost of nobility here, and so she felt more at home here than anywhere else except perhaps Shu Jing, which was believed to be where she was originally from. She was not entirely sure, but even then, she had been raised there. she was dressed in her finery, which with her heels, made her quite the wall one, given how plenty tall she was even without them. She definitely pulled of the nobility thing quite well, regally striding along from her starting point to her destination. However, being taught a lot about humility in her past had taken its toll on Varsha and she did not like arrogance a whole lot. She was fine if it was a tease (for boy oh boy, was this woman a tease), but the sound of this guy... whoever the audacious little bastard was... he seemed dead serious. Varsha had to investigate. Sure enough, the young man in question seemed to be dead serious about his claims. Raising an eyebrow, Varsha approached him, carrying nothing on her person except her purse. There wasn't even any knives or anything around her thighs. She was unarmed. "Master swordsman... master firebender?" she quipped. "...really?" She wanted an explanation more than anything at this point, because she felt like she could point out numerous flaws about such claims just by looking at him.

Akira Shirogane II	Giving what he assumed was a charming smile, Akira gave his katana a small, attention-drawing pat. "Would we lie to you?" He offered a pretentious wink, "No need to worry; I wouldn't hurt anyone too badly in your presence, m'lady." While it was attempted chivalry, it was pretty asinine of him to say such a thing, being so obviously incapable. Li-Li the poodle-monkey pulled at the end of her leash, hissing at Varsha. The animal looked almost rabid, the way she tried to drive the noblewoman off, tossing a pebble rather viciously at the ground and pounding her fists. "I think Li-Li likes you," Akira offered, completely seriously.

Varsha Zere Zakau	"The only time you should ever lie is in politics." Varsha retorted with a playful coo, "and even then, it'd have to be believable." She was also about this close to giving Lu-Lu the poodle-monkey the taste of a high heel to the face, but she had more discipline and self-control than that. "Not to rain on your parade or anything... but your stance shows little indication of either attack or defense, and your poor katana looks so badly kept that I doubt it could cut through butter. Are you sure you're as good as you say?" Again, Varsha was mostly just purely skeptical. Was this boy doing this on purpose, or did he really think he was all that and a bag of chips? when he had drawn attention to the katana she had noticed just how poorly it had been maintained, which brought her to question the way she did. Her staff, as simple as it was, was very well-cared for, because Varsha used it as a trusty weapon and it had served her well, so she felt she owed it the same favor. It wasn't on her at the moment though, so she couldn't really use it as a demonstration.

Akira Shirogane II	Akira's confidence wavered, but only for a moment before he recovered. "Well, I hardly expect to be attacked by such a lovely young lady," He smirked, "As I also hardly expect to be attacking such a lovely young lady... so, of course my stance is relaxed." To be quite honest, the young man didn't even realize that he was being condescending; he thought that he was being charming - somehow. "As for my weapon," He began, crossing his arms over his chest in a jaunty manner, "While it pains me to disagree with one so beautiful, you are quite mistaken. The blade is well cared for; it is simply my non-lethal katana... for practice, instead of killing. You see?" It was total bullshit, of course, and he had already resolved to find and purchase a new weapon, as soon as possible.

Varsha Zere Zakau	Varsha listened, mentally slapping his forehead a few dozen times in the process. She could still not tell if he was being serious or not. Surely this had to just be a good and crazy joke. after hearing him out, she chuckled. "I don't attack unless provoked... although the perfectionist in my discipline is cringing right now. Besides... didn't you just offer to challenge anyone to come against your sword and your firebending?" Pausing, she smirked. "because if you did, I'll accept your challenge." Time to see how this made him react. Varsha was being completely serious about it too--right here, right now, even in a dress and heels.

Akira Shirogane II	It took a moment, for the penny to drop, but then Akira was laughing at the very concept of his manly man-challenge being accepted by a woman of finery. "I couldn't possibly turn my sword upon you, m'lady," He grinned, seeing it as a fantastical joke, "Though, if you like, you could watch me in the shady spot over there, and keep Li-Li company, while I fight." It was quite sincere, of course, and pulled off with what Akira considered to be chivalry. With a flourish, he offered her his arm, as if to escort her over to the spot in the shade, a whole ten feet away.

Varsha Zere Zakau	"Then don't use the sword." she suggested, also figuring that it would probably just hinder him more than anything. "just you, me, and our fists. Do not patronize me anymore than you've already tried." Yes, Varsha was actually legitimately insulted at this point. "See..." she continued, "where I'm from, girls fight--and anyone who is not willing to prove themselves against these girls... isn't even enough to be called a real man." She wanted to fight him, and was trying to make it clear without outright punching him, because she wasn't even sure that would work. That, and she was better at picking fights anyways, "so..." she added as she cracked her knuckles, "are you man enough to block my fists, or what?" she wasn't even sure that blunt force trauma to the head would help this lad.

Akira Shirogane II	With a sigh, Akira decided to humor her; or, at least, that's what he thought that he was doing. "Alright, m'lady," He offered, with an unintentionally condescending smile, "I will consent, though you should remove your heels; wouldn't want you to fall and hurt yourself." Moving back over toward Li-Li, who seemed to have settled down, now that there was no shouting, Akira removed his sword and scabbard, laying it down for the monkey to fiddle with. Then, approaching Varsha once again, he offered a bow, and another supposedly dazzling smile. "Should you want any pointers, m'lady, you need only to ask," came his final remark, before taking a strange sort of defensive stance, full of openings for an assault. In his mind, he was taking it easy on her.

Varsha Zere Zakau	"how do you know I'm wearing heels?" she quipped, "I can take care of myself either way. Don't you worry a bit about me." It was said in an almost deadpan tone. Sure there were probably giveaways that she was wearing them. For one thing, a 6'4" woman was a rare sight indeed. Then again, so was a 6'0" woman, which is what she'd be without them. Either that, or he could recognize the noise of her steps... or he had looked up her dress, but that didn't seem likely, because she hadn't kicked or decked him yet. She didn't remove them, partially because she felt that it would make defeating him that much more glorious, and it gave her a small handicap--something she felt Akira would need against her. Besides... heels helped Varsha stay lighter on her feet during martial arts training or any other time when she was barefoot, as she was thus on her tippytoes more often. "At your ready," she actually returned the bow, as it was customary in her culture for sparring partners to do so. however, after that, she came in full-on offensive, her hands swinging towards his face and his shoulder. He'd learn soon enough that going easy on her was a mistake, and that he was condescending the wrong girl. That, or maybe it was just karma that he'd end up getting challenged by a martial artist who had her own dojo in this very city.

Akira Shirogane II	Akira's eyes went wide as saucers, when her attacks came flying. He barely managed to avoid the strike to his face, but the blow to the shoulder hit him dead-on, shoving him backward with a rather unattractive, low grunt. Stumbling back a few steps, he tried to get back into the groove, perhaps now realizing that this was a bad idea. Holding his hands in a defensive manner - sort of - he tried to ready himself for blocking the next attack. Things would not go his way, however, as his footing was rather unsteady, and a seasoned martial artist would definitely see that. Soon, he'd likely be on his ass, over backward.

Varsha Zere Zakau	When Varsha's attacks connected almost effortlessly, she realized that he was just bragging about skills he didn't even have. That was more or less the antithesis of her philosophy, which, incidentally, was a humble one. If she wasn't intending to give him a royal beatdown, she might have commented on how, again, his defensive stance was flawed. Instead, she decided to teach him the other way. Akira would soon see that Varsha was in fact wearing heels, and would also see a bit of her calf and ankle if he looked down quick enough, because immediately, Varsha darted forward with a low sweeping kick that would totally dislodge his footing unless he saw it coming or changed his stance real quick.

Akira Shirogane II	Meeting the ground so abruptly was a new experience for Akira, and one that he never cared to repeat. With a grunt, he eased up onto his elbows, looking up at the noblewoman who had just helped him get far more intimate with the road than he'd expected. Trying to savor his dignity, he gave a slight grin, "Uh - Good job..." Then, quickly, "I let you win." Trying to stand, it took him a few minutes, now that he was a bit sore from actually being attacked back. Dusting his pants off took him a few minutes, as he tried to regain his composure.

Varsha Zere Zakau	Varsha followed up her sweep by twirling around and placing both feet safely back on the ground, where she also crossed her arms. "I'm sure you did." she retorted, her tone and expression clearly indicating sarcasm. Nope... she wasn't buying it. However, she had another idea. "first round's just a warm-up though. if you want to go again we can. I'll even go easy on you to save your rep." Evil woman. She was such a tease. she brushed a bit of dust off of her dress, putting her hands together in front of her, waiting to see what he would try next. She didn't know why that arrogance annoyed her so much... but it did.

Akira Shirogane II	"Uh - " That had thrown him for another loop, "No need, m'lady! I'm sure you're tired, after that, ah, little workout." Akira threw in a grin, which almost looked pleading. Though, always misguided, he was hoping that what he said was true, rather than for mercy from the young lady who had thoroughly kicked his butt with so little effort. His pet poodle-monkey, Li-Li, was rather silent, in her little shady corner, grooming. There was certainly no indication that the animal cared for her master being thrown around.

Varsha Zere Zakau	"Nah, that woke me up more than anything else." she replied honestly. it had just been enough to get her adrenaline flowing, but not to an intense level. It had ended much too quickly for that. "so I guess I'll let you take your little breather, if that's fine with you." she almost taunted, folding her own arms and watching him with an otherwise calm and contented smirk. She was not one to lord her victories over others... but sometimes, resisting doing so was very very hard.

Akira Shirogane II	Though internally cursing, Akira maintained his smile, the picture of smug confidence. Moving away from the fighting ground with a bow, he made his way over to Li-Li, surreptitiously rubbing at his sore backside. He was in trouble, and he knew it, but he saw no way out of it. Not that many people were watching, but a single person could easily ruin his reputation. A defeat like this wouldn't do wonders for it, however. Akira was torn on what to do, save for kick it up a notch, despite her being a woman... Like that would work. He grabbed his canteen, downing the water within, trying to think very hard, but failing utterly. He'd never run into a problem like this, before.

She was waiting, but did not say anything, other than let her smirk grow a bit in size. If she was as boastful as he was, this would be right around the time where she mocked him for losing to a girl in a dress and heels. But nope. Varsha had more discipline than that, which was part of what made her not as difficult to like. "everything alright?" she asked, her tone unable to betray any of her current emotions.

Akira Shirogane II	"Quite alright, m'lady," Akira held his grin firm on his face, "Grant me another few minutes, so that I may tend to my poodle-monkey." With that, he actually does freshen the animal's water dish and food, offering her some affection afterward. It was clear that he was thinking the whole time, but he was, at least, caring for the creature, who seemed to allow it with exasperated patience. Once that was done, he offered a sigh before straightening up, turning toward Varsha with his grin in place. "Are you sure you want to continue, lovely?" He asked, not condescending intentionally, "The sun is high in the sky; I would not wish for you to wilt under its heat, m'lady."

Varsha Zere Zakau	Varsha nodded with an "okay." as she watched him tend to that animal. why it stayed with him or put up with him, based on its face, Varsha would never know. She was able to quell her curiosity on that subject, however. at least he took care of it. "I'm positive." she replied to his question. "I teach this sort of thing for several hours most of the week. this was barely a warmup." as much as it might have seemed like bragging, this was completely honest. Varsha was not just a martial artist; she was a martial arts instructor. high stamina, speed, and strength were important. "so don't you worry your pretty little head over me." she chuckled. "I'm A-OK."

Akira Shirogane II	"So you do think I'm pretty!" Akira grinned, clearly focusing on the wrong thing, as a method of denial. Yes, he would be a douche the entire way down. "Are you certain that you wouldn't like to adjourn to a tea house and get a drink?" He hadn't moved from that spot in the shade, however; apparently it was him who didn't want to do this anymore.

Varsha Zere Zakau	"it seems you got the idea from looking at me." she teased. Incidentally, and perhaps horrifically ironically, Varsha paused a moment to contemplate his offer. Tea didn't sound too bad, and if he was paying... sure. She gave plenty of men that same chance, although she did not realize that she might have accidentally burned some bridges that could have been good. She was very adept at the dating scene, but not at intimate relationships. Perhaps that was karma kicking her (sexy brown) ass for all the teasing she would do. "Your treat?" she asked, to clarify. "I'm down, if so."

This young woman was surprising him more and more; that wasn't usually a thing. "I would not dream of inviting you, only to assume you would also attend to the bill. How uncouth that would be!" With a slight bow, he offered his arm to her, because he was a self-proclaimed gentleman among gentleman, "Shall we?" There was a tea house nearby, of course, since there was one on almost every block. Li-Li would be coming, of course, as Akira had already untied her leash, holding it in his other hand.

Varsha Zere Zakau	Varsha was a strange woman. most people that knew her would agree to that. she was a bit unpredictable, but not always, and certainly not in the same vicious way that Zulera the Avatar was. she took his hand, gripping purposely tightly at first, but loosening her grip a moment later, mostly just wanting him to cringe. No, she'd go along with this for the time being, and other than the brief tight grip, she wouldn't try to make him look bad--not obviously or on purpose though.

Akira Shirogane II	Akira did cringe, at first, because of her tight grip, but he tried to keep his grin, for appearances sake. As Varsha's hand loosened, he was okay to continue, leading her across the way to the tea house. Once they were given a table, he sat across from his sudden, unexpected "date"; there was no need to pull a chair out for her, as they had cushions on the floor. "Forgive me for asking, m'lady," He ventured, after their tea had been poured and they were left to relative privacy, "But might I know your name?" Akira smiled as he said it, purely curious. Calling her "pretty lady" was all well and good, but names were usually better. If she had given it before... he had forgotten, in the heat of the moment.
