Born with a strong will but easy-going nature - traits that follow him to this day - and raised in the heart of a proud Fire Nation, the man was deeply impacted by his culture, and does embrace it in many different aspects, from the way he dresses to behavioural patterns like the calm and composed almost military-like nature that firebenders often display in social settings. Tatsuya is also - for the most part - a warm, down-to-earth individual who, in spite of possessing the level of thick-headedness and self-confidence one would expect from an entrepreneur, does tend acknowledge his shortcomings and be fairly unpretentious, trait fire benders tend to lack.

In spite of having lived a life mostly devoid of life-threatening situations, the man has been shown his share of bravery during his military days.

A now upper-class individual, Tatsuya has been known to have bouts with alcohol and gambling, usually spawned from being pressured into it by his filterless Sandbender friend. Luckily however, his strict upbringing and somewhat cautious nature have kept these habits largely in check, and with puberty and the "bad influences" it brings behind him, any lingering remnants of an inner rebellion or vices have been - for the most part - quelled.

Having always loved a good story, the Firebender has been known to go out of his way to meet people and can, at times, choose to work as a bartender in his own places, in a way to remember his roots, in a sense.

In his undying love of his business, he has chosen to devote a fair portion of his spare time to understanding and helping to further the technological advancements that currently sweep the continents. And, although his knowledge of science is rusty, the man's wit remains as sharp as ever, as is his eagerness to learn.


Abilities (413)

Being the son of a Fire Nation Navy Officer, Tatsuya's abilities were worked on from a very young age. Though his excitable nature would, in his youth, often lead to small, fiery mishaps (although never anything serious), his father's guidance swiftly corrected the problem.

His many years in school greatly improved his control of the element. Usually pumped up from a good story heard in the inn, the young man would often find himself seeking out a variety of sports, most of which combat-oriented, though much less brutal than the Fire Nation's very own Agni Kai. These competitions had taught Tatsuya to use his element while light on his feet, and gave him a good deal of flexibility and control over his growing physical strength.

Although overly physical of fights were frowned upon, he became fairly decent in hand-to-hand combat, which he learnt from his father for self-defence purposes.

His stay in the Naval Forces was, however, the real turning point in his abilities. What until then was little more than a side project, would soon become actual strength.
Despite being little more than a means to an end, being the son of the acting Commander, the young man's abilities were expected to fit very high standards. There, he gained proficiency in hand-to-hand combat and Firebending, and discovered that he possessed an affinity to Lightningbending, a particularly destructive art which, being hugely uncommon, developed much less, due to lack of proper guidance.

Having since become his own man, Tatsuya chose to pick up new skills purely for his own entertainment.

The man owns a small sailboat, safely docked near his home in the Fire Nation. Having been taught the basics during his military days, the entrepreneur enjoyed the thought of being able to go into the sea at whim. Only interested in using it for purposes of leisure and having no intent to lead a maritime expedition on a sailboat, the man is content with his ability to manoeuvre his vessel.

Tatsuya was gifted a cane by his friends Sesi, a water bender from the Northern Water Tribe, and Manik, a Sandbender from the Si Wong Desert. A joke, no doubt, but one the firebender has grown fond of, choosing to wear it as a reminder to keep success from getting to his head.

Tatsuya is, physically speaking, not far from the stereotypical Fire Nation native. He stands just over six feet tall, sports a full head of dishevelled black hair and dense coal beard, and is not very imposing, despite his tallish stature. His lightly tanned skin is a perfect representative of his long exposure to the Fire Nation's volcanic climate.
His main identifying feature would have to be his emerald coloured eyes which are hugely uncommon in Firebenders, and do give him a certain je ne sais quoi.

His overall appearance is generally not complimented which will likely mean that he is, at best, slightly above average.
Choosing to view this as a quality, rather than a fault, the man's general appearance and calm demeanour allow him to, for the most part, not raise needless attention.

His newfound wealth led the man to the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom's upper-classes. Wanting to learn from their customs in order to better serve them as possible customers, Tatsuya eventually adopted some of their very traits he'd vowed to serve and, as time passed, became a man of strong, acquired tastes.

The firebender dislikes ornamented clothing and powerful colours and can, as such, usually be spotted wearing neutral colours, such as black, white, brown and grey. The sole exceptions to his otherwise neutral conduct are the cane he drags around - a gag gift which serves as a reminder to keep his success from rushing to his head - and the occasional red accent - a proud display of his Fire Country heritage.

In spite of being a mildly vain creature, Tatsuya's belief in practicality remains unshakeable. Although looking sharp is always a must, his getups are fitted and generally durable: designed to provide freedom and wide ranges of motion without risk of tearing.
Being able to produce Fire at whim, he usually refrains from wearing either bulky pieces or too many layers, outside of freezing cold instances.

The man is no stranger to the advantages that come with presentability and etiquette but it is important to note that, ever since he can care to remember, the firebender has never had any qualms with rolling up his sleeves and getting to work anytime and anywhere. Although appearing dirty and unclean is to be avoided, it's certainly not going to prevent him from doing what he wants, or has to do.

During a particularly scorching day of Summer, in the Upper Rings of Ba Sing Se, at the time located three quarters of a mile from the surface of the sun, Akatsuki Tatsuya finds himself moving up a flight of stairs. Having lived the majority of his life in volcanic climates and being able to manipulate flames at whim, the man believed himself to be very good at handling heat but this day had been particularly hard to handle. Something was broken, and it was either his inner thermostat, or the city’s. His travel bag dangled from his left shoulder, slowly swerving from side to side with each step. The way it moved seemed almost… hypnotic… Feeling himself drift away, the man stopped in his tracks to vigorously shake his head for a full second or two. After managing to snap himself awake, and the climb ensued. Sure enough, he had finally made his way to the very top of the stairs. It had been two years since his last visit to the city. Surprisingly enough, very little seemed to had changed. The streets were completely deserted, but that could’ve easily been linked to the fact that flinging a piece of meat onto the ground would make it spontaneously burst into flame. After mulling over the heat once or twice more, his destination was in sight at last. All he had to do now was this one last left turn, and… With an audible sigh, the firebender proceeded to remove his bag and toss it to the side, making his way to a large, imposing, closed wooden gate. He did it again, huh?… Typical - the man stated, between laughter and tears. Yeah… When will we learn? A feminine voice replied with a hint of desperation in her voice. Next to the very doors he approached, a petite woman, about his age, sat drenched in sweat in what could only be described as the fetal position. The woman was, of course, Sesi. She swiftly drew a small piece of paper from her pocket and proceeded to wave it in front of the man’s face. The paper contained a few barely legible hieroglyphical pieces of writing that seemed to read: Out for the day. Should be back by dinner. As Tatsuya plopped down next to his friend, who was much too tired to support the weight of her head on her shoulders, moved her soaked hair out of the way and proceeded to lean her head on his shoulder. Her face was as red as a plum. If this heat was hard to handle for him, a firebender, the man could not even fathom the amount of damage it was doing to the waterbender next to him, who had spent the past two years of her life in the North Pole and had returned to announce her engagement to her friends. On the other side of those doors stood, of course, Manik’s home. The Sandbender had invited them over for a small vacation and then completely forgot about it, yet again. Livid, but nostalgic, the corners of the Tatsuya’s mouth twitched, momentarily sketching a nearly imperceptible smile, as he leaned the back of his head on the scorching door behind him. Well... at least this time he left a note.
