History:Arata was born to two waterbender of the Northern Tribe, Katashi (his father) and Riko (his mother). Despite his parents abilities, it wasn't untill Arata was well into his teens before his bending manifested it self. Though his parents were kind and loving people, their responsibities as waterbenders meant that Arata was frequently in the care of relatives and family friends. During this time he picked up a wide varienty of skills from his various caregivers, but it was his uncle Makota that he learned the most from. Makota was a Tiger Seal hunter, and often told tales of adventures out on the ice. When Arata was 10, his uncle began taking him on hunting trips close to the city for less dangerous game, such as Koala Otters. Arata learned the use of the hunting spear as well as how to track animals across the ice and snow.
His trips with his uncle stopped shortly after his 16th birthday, however, when he began waterbending. Katashi and Riko, proud that their son would be able to continue the bending tradition, began teaching him waterbending forms. Unforunately, Arata's training turned out to be excruciatingly slow. Two years into his training, he was still only capable of the simpliest of forms. After his success in learning the skills of hunting from his uncle, Arata grew frustrated with slowness of bending devlopment.
Worried about his parent's disaproval, Arata went to Makota for advice. His uncle suggested that he make the journey to the Southern Tribe to learn from the masters there, saying that "Water is the element of change, it does not fare well in stagnation. You must let it flow".
Acting on his uncle's advice, Arata gathered his belongs and set forth into the world.

Arata awoke in a panic. Where was this place? Why was the floor rocking? What was going on? After a moment of struggling with the furs he was using for a blanket, it all came back to him. He was on Earth Kingdom ship. He'd done it, he'd really left. His whole life he'd never been more than a day from the north pole , and now he was going to the south pole. He could already feel the first pangs of homesickness. He knew it was the right thing to do, he could feel it. What had Uncle Makota said? "Water is the element of change, it does not fare well in stagnation. You must let it flow." Now that he thought about it though, he wasn't sure where his uncle had come up with that little gem, seeing as he wasn't a bender. "Oh well," though Akara, "I'm flowing now, so that's just going to have to wait until I come back."
