Feren swore he saw a faint blush in he cheeks, but her dark skin was hiding it. Maybe it was his imagination? Then she took his hand in hers, and kissed his cheek. Yup. His imagination. Then she called him cute. Nope, not imagination, but a dream. And if this is all a dream, He might as well go along with it. He wasn't going to get this in the real world.
He felt as a kiss on the lips was not appropriate at this time, so he copied her and kissed her on the cheek, and copied her again. "You're cute too." His blush was still very present, but had faded a little as he gained confidense and gave her a smile.

| when Sagittaria was kissed, she couldn't help but give a rather cute giggle. it was a little higher than her regular voice, but it wasn't loud or anything. "well then..." she was blushing a bit more obvious this time, and she let go of his hand, "maybe we *should* get a room then... or at least somewhere private while we confess our feelings for each other or what have you." sure her statements were bold and forward, but really, that was the only way things got done sometimes.
she kept a bright and playful smile on her face to show that she wasn't trying to pressure him one way or another. she did glance back at Zulera and then chuckled. "I reckon we can catch her again later--maybe when she's less busy?" she suggested. she wasn't trying to divert him from the reason they were here either, and so that wouldn't be a problem, she didn't think.

Saj gave out probably the cutest giggle he had ever heard. He smiled the biggest smile he had ever gave, then stopped when she mentioned getting a room. "A-A room? W-well... I guess we could catch her later.... O-ok." He ended with a nod, grabbing her hand again.

| "n pressure. it's not like we're about to do anything weird." she laughed offhandedly. She approached the manager, asking for a key to a room, slapping a few coins on the table in return. Sagittaria and her family were considerably rich, after all.
to cut a long story short, she led them up to a single-bed room, although there was also a washroom and a table that could easily seat two or three people. "wanna have a seat?" she offered, stepping towards the table after closing the door behind them. Just to make sure that he knew her intentions and all. she just wanted somewhere private where they could talk or befriend each other, rather than in the crowded halls of the tavern below.

Along with never having someone before, he had also never had this experience. The young engineer didn't know if he was ready when they got the room key. He was a bit nervous on the way up to the room, and it was made even worse when there was a single bed in the room. But calmed down a bit when she motioned for him to sit down at a table. He took his seat. "So, we talking business or, something along the lines of that?" Feren inquired. He half-hoped it was something a little more than just talk. He had rather liked the kisses on the cheek. His other half was the innocence of him telling him to leave back to his safety bubble.

| Sagittaria chuckled as they sat down across from each other this time. "aye, I suppose we can talk business... or if we both decide to blush our faces off, at least no one will be watching." she laughed. "so what my proposal is, provided Zulera accepts it, is that I will contract builders to construct a port on Zulera Island that can hopefully reach the city. perhaps I could contract you to help me build a better boat, so to speak. I suppose we can discuss more details once we get Zulera City squared away though, yeah?"
she smiled again. "sorry if I made you awkward earlier, by the way." she apologized, "but yeah. I'm fine with the idea of friends... or frankly... well, you're a pretty nice guy too, y'know. so maybe more than that? I dunno. it's just a thought." she didn't want to sound like she was pressuring him one way or another, since her words were often times very swaying. so she left it at that.

Feren was fine talking business, especially now with Saj. He nodded and agreed with the boat and dock idea. He could make modifications to a boat. He always had new ideas brimming around his head. "Yeah, boat work is alright for me." To the whole awkward deal, he replied "Oh, um, yeah. Friends are nice. I-if you want, we can be a little more than that. I just, need a little time. So much has happened today, biggest of all is that I've never had a good friend. Especially a gir-.. w-woman, like yourself." Even when he was alone in a one bedroom hotel room with a girl, he was still trying to say the right things.

"Oooo, more inventions? I wouldn't suppose that you'd be interested in letting me in on what they are? There is no point in keeping it top secret forever." In all honesty, Kei really liked the development of new technology, it was like waiting until Christmas as young kid, excited to see what new gifts you'd get that year. Well, truthfully, Kei did like Christmas just as much as any other kid would, but he couldn't just tell that to people. Pretending to have the mindset of a kid at his age wasn't considered 'cute' anymore and it's not like he would be able to pay the kids admission fee for himself when entering an amusement park by using his 'mental age' as an excuse. That was besides the point however, All that should be noted was Kei was excited to see what Zulera had come up with. The last invention he saw from her was her giant mech.
Kei had to think over what exactly he wanted from this city. Peace would be nice, but did truly expect it? No, not really. It would take more than a city to end violence which has always remained parallel to the human race. Money was the real allure here. "The thing you have to understand about me," Kei told the Avatar, "Is that I feel that there is just too much in life to worry over a single, long term goal. Me? I set a bunch of short ones, like, 'What am I going to eat tomorrow?' or 'I'm going to hit the jackpot at the local gambling bar'. So my answer? Definitely tonight's dinner."

- Spoiler:
It was difficult to ascertain where the singed horizon of the desert met the meridian of the burning sky. The two connected someplace out in the dusty void, far beyond the realm of man, and turned forever more. Dogs and jackalopes shrieked their goodbyes to the dying day.
The spindly legs of a giant rhinoceros beetle skewered the sands between the dunes. Asafu navigated the beast between winding dunes that stretched to all ends of the Si Wong. Already, lanterns in the campsite were being lit and flickered into view.
A figure, painted in twilight, flagged the rider down with an outstretched hand.
"Asafu, all is well?"
"More buzzard wasp hives in Uleru's grounds," said Asafu. He removed his head wrappings and bent loose sand from his face with a hand wave. "We'll have to clear them out in the morning."
"It will have to wait. Your father has urgent news for you."
"Is all well," said Asafu, dismounting.
"I believe so." Xao led him to his father's tent, painted red and gleaming. Children ran between them playing with a ball, cheering in some indiscernible adolescent tongue. "Business, I assume."
Asafu entered the tent alone. Upon parting the curtain, the sweet scent of burning incense wafted heavy in the air. His father sat cross-legged on the cloth-covered ground.
"I heard talk of buzzard wasp nests," said his father with a gravelly voice, not unlike grinding stones.
The son down across from him. "Yes, father. Again bothering Uleru."
"Let Xao take care of this. I just received a very important notice from Ba Sing Se and as my representative in foreign matters, you'll need to follow up on it. Tell me, son. How would you like to meet the Avatar?"
Full Moon Bay, Earth Kingdom
City-life, even several excursions later, was still a trying experience on Asafu's desert-dwelling mind. All the sound, confusion. It was akin to drowning in zero-gravity.
The palanquin-driver new exactly where to take him. The Seasons' Palace might not have been anything landmark to an everyday citizen of the Earth Kingdom, but it may as well have been the Royal Palace compared to the huts and tents of Si Wong.
"Thanks," Asafu said dryly on his step down from the cart. "How much?"
"For this trip? A mere fifty yuans!"
Asafu's attire gave him away as a stranger to the city, but working for his father had made him shrewd and well acquainted with the real value of money.
"I think you're mistaken, friend. Twenty should do."
His driver searched for words but opted to snatch twenty coins and cut his losses. He left silently, stewing over his lost prospect.
The lobby was quiet and ornate. Early afternoon found few coming and going. A man, blanketed by a had-read newspaper, snoozed in his armchair. A help desk of sorts stood vacant at the far end.
He sat himself down at the bar next to a woman and her male companion. "Glass of water, please." When the barkeep returned with his order, Asafu presented him with the flyer advertising Zulera City.
"Know where I can find out about this?" he asked.

Fan-Lei had been sitting in the lobby for three hours now. He was used to being so stationary for so long, his wandering thus far had been largely aimless, and had become a cycle of finding places to eat, sleeping on their roofs, and travelling. Today, he was seated drinking tea and eating rice, when the desert man entered. He had been to the Si-Wong before, and he recognized a sandbender when he saw one.
Fan-Lei had seen a lot of illustrious individuals in the Full Moon Bay recently, and he had heard that the Avatar was holding a meeting for those that wished to partake in the formation of her city. Fan-Lei had no dreams so big, he had no idea what he was doing in the first place, but something about the sandbender had piqued his interest.
Fan-Lei knew himself to be unusually forthcoming at times, and he was no different today. He stood, abandoned his tea and walked over to the sandbender. He couldn't tell the age of him, but that made no matter. He tapped the sandbender on the shoulder and began to speak.
"Hello, I am Fan-Lei. It's been a while since I've seen a sandbender, especially so far from the Si-Wong. If I may ask, are you here to see the Avatar?"

The waiter left his company as wordlessly as he had arrived. It came as a surprise to be approached by a stranger so far from home. The gambit of scenarios ran their course. Old friend, business partner? Was he trying to swindle the foreigner out of some money? Best play it out, though Asafu.
"Fan-Lei." He gripped his glass, sweating with cold, and raised it a bit. "Asafu, at your service." It was still an alien concept to have such instant access to drinkable water. He relished every moment of the gulp.
"I am here to see the Avatar. Do you know where I can find her representatives?"

Fan-Lei reached up with his hand and grabbed his hair, then leaned back slightly and looked left and right, while saying,
"Uhh, I've been here for a while and I know she's here, along with a few others interested in her project, but..."
He looked left again then stood back up straight.
"Hm, well she should be here. I don't necessarily know where. She's fairly easy to spot, being from the water tribe and all."
Fan-Lei put his hand down and frowned. He felt a little embarassed, asking Asafu if he was here for the Avatar, then not knowing anything about where she was currently or what she was doing. He took a deep breath and spoke again,
"I'm sorry, I don't know where she went, but I'd be glad to help you find her if you wish, Asafu."

The bartender mixed a drink smelling of berries and down a hallway, a baby began to cry.
"I'd appreciate that, Fan-Lei." To Asafu's right, the Water Tribe girl drank and socialized with a darker-looking character. The thought never occurred to him that she may be the one he searched for. He turned away and pointed in her direction. "Her?" he whispered to Fan-Lei.

"Oh, uh, yeeaa, I can't believe I didn't just see her."
Fan-Lei again reached his hand up and grabbed his hair, then pursed his lips, thinking. There wasn't much to think about, except the next sentence.
"I suppose we—I mean, you should approach her, since you have business with her."
Fan-Lei lowered his hand, he had helped out the sandbender but somehow did not yet feel satisfied with what he had come to accomplish. He wondered what Asafu was up to, what the Avatar was up to. Oh well, I might as well ask, he thought.
"If you don't mind me asking, what are you up to with the Avatar, it must be important, right?"

| Zulera was not slow to notice that others had come in, and even chuckled to herself as a couple of them disappeared upstairs. Not that she suspected they were all here to see her. The Seasons' Palace was a fairly popular place, and there were plenty of patrons who were likely just here to go about their daily business.
"well... I've talked with my brother and his wife about it too, and they've got some incredible ideas up their sleeves." she smirked, "a bath that always stays warm; machines that can lift heavy weights, and something like a carriage that moves by itself." She paused, realizing that some of those might sound silly. "He wasn't always the best at describing things in detail. Then again, I find it similarly difficult to do myself, preferring to show instead of tell. but I digress. if you can find anyone that could support this project with me, that would be great. if you just want a place to live... welp, as long as you can pull your own weight, that's fine with me." One thing she didn't tell anyone was about the type of government the city would have (or rather, *wouldn't* have). that would be learned later on. ----
The bartender had actually been about to explain the whereabouts of the Avatar for the new patrons, but then another kid had walked in and so he left them to their drinks. However, after hearing more and more discussion about it, he finally "intervened" so to speak. Shuffling over to the conversing pair--the sand nomad and the young firebender, he simply npointed towards the Water Tribe woman. "if you're lookin' for the Avatar, she's that woman in blue right over there."

Pulling his own weight? Kei could probably manage that... well, as long as it didn't get too heavy. "I assure you," Kei told Zulera, "I've had enough experience pulling my own weight in this harsh society that would swallow you up if you didn't. That much, I can definitely contribute."
When Zulera went to go meet the newcomers, Kei waved for her to go on. "I'm not really good with greetings, so I'm going to go take a nap for a bit. Call me back whenever you need me."
With that, Kei went up to the room Zulera had rented out and claimed the bed for himself.

"Well, that's more than a little embarrassing."
Asafu set his water down and unfurled the flier he had been given, doing his best to smooth the folds from where it had been stuffed into one of his bags.
It would be a lie to say he hadn't been expecting something more majestic. Legends of Avatars past reached far into even Si Wong. Stories of mythical prowess and superhuman feats. It almost felt like a letdown.
"Excuse me," he said to her, sliding the flier down the bar to where she sat. "Might you be the Avatar?"

| with a nod and smile towards Kei, Zulera moved down a bit. "fair enough," she chuckled, "we'll meet again for sure." that was not an empty promise. Fate seemed to have a way of making people cross paths.
Zulera's stance on the avatar might have been part of where her plainness came from, but even with how normal she appeared to be, that was just her cover. She dressed the way she did for a very specific reason--the clothes on her back and the gloves on her hands and arms covered streaks of tribal tattoos that ran across much of her body, and that told the wild and eventful story of the avatar's life.
she knew the stories of her predecessors--many of them were just overly romanticized. Zulera was not exactly one to want to brag about her exploits--instead, she preferred to show them. This city that she was building... "Zulera City"... that would be her mark on the world. this architectural wonder of the world, combined with the technological might and revolution that it would usher in for the world... that would be Avatar Zulera's mark upon the world, and what history remembered the young Water Tribe Avatar for.
When asked about her identity, she simply nodded. "that would be me indeed." she smiled. "What can I do for you?"

Fan-Lei shrank away at Asafu's quip, he was a little embarassed. He walked back to where he had been sitting and grabbed his tea. He walked back near the sandbender, but the Avatar arrived at the same time. Instead of making himself part of the conversation, he hung back a few feet, obviously watching. He wasn't going to leave this event alone.

A small passenger ship reaches an Earth Kingdom port-town. The flimsy wooden plank would outstretch from the craft's side and contact the ground and, soon enough, the silhouette of a man would be seen promenading down its wobbly slope, holding a cane in his left hand as the afternoon sun graced his back.
Full Moon Bay... It's been too long. The man thought, revelling in the nostalgia from his military days. In spite of having never stayed for too long, any half-decent mariner would enjoy the sight of an entire metropolis that thrived from the sea's blessings.
With both feet finally planted onto dry land and upon a relaxed intake of breath, the man made his way towards a seemingly friendly dock-worker. After a quick stop for a few simple words, with a polite bow and - in Tatsuya's own words - a somewhat clownish twirl of the cane, the leisurely stroll through Full Moon Bay resumed.
Reaching into his right-hand pocket, Tatsuya would remove a neatly folded piece of paper and keep it in hand, glancing at it here and there. To some, the contents of that small paper represented a utopian dream, to others still they were the face of hope for a brighter future but alas, this firebender's cause was far less humanitarian or noble... what he saw was little more than a good opportunity to hear a good story.
The Seasons' Palace, eh? He mumbled, matching the writings on his paper to the ones drawn across the palace, before setting foot in its interiors. As luck, or fate would have it, he needed not walk long. As he had made his way into the bar, he overheard the bartender directing a pair of teens towards the woman in demand: the Avatar.
Not wanting to needlessly intrude, the man proceeded to grab a seat in a bar stool, at the counter, choosing a spot that would allow him to keep an eye out for comings and goings, but far enough to be outside of the conversation's range, Tatsuya casually signalled the bartender to politely make him aware of his - a patron's - arrival. The bartender would, in turn, politely nod at him as if to say he would be with the firebender as soon as he had wrapped up his business with the duo.

"Ah, it is a great pleasure to meet the Avatar! I was hoping we could help each other, really."
Asafu folded the flyer and placed it among his robes.
"I am Asafu. If it wasn't apparent," he said, indicating his clothing, "I am a sandbender from Si Wong. I won't bore you with smalltalk. You're no doubt busy."
He set aside his glass of water. Asafu had a tendency to talk with his arms and didn't want to absentmindedly knock it over.
"My father, Xi-Lo, is a leader in the Hami tribe. We operate a fairly lucrative business in the production of glass. Our tribesmen mine sand from pits in the desert, export it on caravans to our factories where it is blasted into the finest glass you are likely to find in this realm."
Asafu reached into his robes, dug around for a moment, and emerged displaying a glass sphere he had kept there. The sphere was about as long as a hand and was flawless in its transparency. One could look through it and see the image of the other side, distorted but perfectly clear. He rested it on the table and gestured for the Avatar to examine it.
"A sample, if you wish. Again, the quality is unmatched. You envision a great city of unity and progress and we - yes, even us in the Si Wong - share this vision with you, but you'll need materials. We can provide your enough glass to make your dream a reality. Shipping through the Si Wong will be provided by our workers. If we could construct another factory in the city, things would become even more expeditious. We offer you this for a fair fee the details of which can be worked out as your construction draws near."
"Now tell me, are you interested?"

| Zulera gave another smile and a nod at the sandbender. "you are required to do nothing, least of all impress me." she advised, "let's see what you have then..." and so the put her gloved hands together and fell politely silent as she listened to the man's spiel. He introduced himself as Asafu, and presented her with a sample of what they worked with. Well... glass actually would be important in this city of hers. Maybe not this fancy blown glass quite as much, but there was at least one architect in the Fire Nation who had designed a type of building that would rise higher into the sky than most others before it--and with multiple floors, it would need multiple windows--which were made of glass.
"I think we can work out a deal," she smirked. "this is a very beautiful work..." she rotated it gently in her dexterous hands to examine all sides of the sphere, as if to inspect for flaws, of which there were none. "I am also currently making arrangements with the Svenja Family from the Fire Nation, to help ship things across the waters... I am sure that a deal could be brokered with them to help safely transport your supplies from the fringes of the desert and the Earth Kingdom out to Zulera Island and back. And, as long as you have the time and resources, I would certainly not oppose you and your people expanding your business into my city." Zulera City was not just a venture for Zulera to make money off of. She'd invest a lot into the city to get it started, but otherwise, it was a capitalist venture for anyone and everyone who was willing to take the chance. "After all..." she smiled, "I am not the only one who would profit from Zulera City--by any stretch."

He didn't even attempt to hold back his smile; all was going well.
"It would be a lie to say I'm not trying to turn a profit for my people. As I said, we can work out a price at a later time. If we have your blessing to construct a factory, I can have a team here within the month to begin breaking ground."
Asafu took a sip of his water. He flashed a victorious grin to Fan-Lei, standing off by himself.
"It's funny you should mention trade routes," he said, now facing back to Zulera. "I have more to discuss with you."
From among his robes, he plucked yet another piece of paper and unfolded it on the bar. The markings made clear it was a map of the southern Earth Kingdom purchased from one of the various roadside shops. He had highlighted different areas and made his own symbols on the page with an ink brush.
"...my vision for Si Wong," he said, passing over the map.
- Spoiler:
(Please disregard my terrible, awful, horrific artistic skills. Just a map to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Green is cities. Red is trade routes. Blue is the qanats/water channels.)
He gave her moment to look over his admittedly sloppy draft. How strange to compile the collected histories and future of an entire race of people, of a landscape so massive, all in the lines of a hastily drawn map.
"Please, bear with me. It may not look like much, but these.... are potential trade routes through the Si Wong. These lines....are where I plan to run water beneath the ground, accessible by wells. Yes, my Avatar water in the desert!"
Asafu was positively gleaming by this point.
"All of these converge at the Mesa Rock - an important landmark to sandbenders, as I'm sure you know. There, I plan to build a community. A very modest version of your own dream. If you wish to trade on sandbender caravans, we could create safe trade between Omashu, Gaoling, the ports in Chameleon Bay, north to Full Moon Bay and Ba Sing Se."
"You and the Earth Nation leaders pay low fees for efficient trade. In exchange, should all work as I plan, the sandbenders create a trading hub in the middle of the desert, uniting the fractious tribes. Again, I ask, are you interested?"
The pieces were on the board. Next move.

| Zulera scanned the map with certain interest, and it made her smile. "Never give up pursuing your dreams, unless they have been proven to be impossible, or perhaps better yet--until you have accomplished them."
She was curious about a few things though. "so what do you wish for me to do? I will happily work with you to establish a trade route between Si Wong and Zulera City, although I am curious as to how this community will come to pass? Have you recruited the tribespeople to assist your cause?" She was certainly not trying to tear him down or discourage him from what she agreed would be a technological marvel; she was simply curious here. "Or perhaps I should simply ask what you wish from me as your Avatar?" she gave a light but friendly chuckle to show that while she was serious about the question, she was not trying to be rude about it.

Satisfied, Asafu carefully rolled the map up and tucked it beneath his belt.
"I appreciate your help, truly. I come to you with this because the sandbenders are in chaos. Decades have passed now since we've last been united and while there is an interest in bringing the tribes together, nobody is stepping up to do so. I'm interested in taking on that role."
Across the room, patrons of the inn were beginning to look his direction. He realized how excited he was becoming. A sip of water and he had calmed.
"My people still have a great respect for the Avatar and doing business, publicly, with you may grant me some legitimacy to at least get my project underway. I don't want you to be in the dark about this. You understand, yes?"
