Loki

Loki had finished the drink, and her dance partner had passed out on the floor, so Loki wandered back to her friend's table. She lay her head down but then snapped it back up and said, "Hey! Heeeeey! You two..." She pointed at Zai, moved her finger to Nokomi, and then pointed at Zai again, "You two are cute...wish eechother." Loki then put her head back down. She appeared to be down for the count.

Nokomi

Nokomi laughed at Zai's comment about siblings, and he gave her a friendly smile...though it lacked real meaning in his eyes. Sore subject, she supposed. "Well, you answered my question. Anything you'd like to know in particular about me?" she asked, as Loki stumbled over and collapsed into a chair. She lay her head down, and Noko was finally glad to see that she'd had enough, when her head snapped up again.

She pointed at Zai, then at Nokomi, then at Zai again...and spoke. "Hey! Heeeeey! You two...You two are cute...wish eechother," she said, her words slurring together. Nokomi turned a beet red color, and took another swig so as to just be doing something. She avoided Zai's gaze, and simply looked off at the bar, where many of the dancing patrons were beginning to slow, or go back to their seats to finish their night of drinking.

Hakota-Zai

Hakota thought a moment as Noko asked if he'd any questions for her. He pondered it while Loki finally seemed to lose her energy, seeming to pass out on the table. He supposed he did have one que--Loki's head snapped up, her finger pointing as she intimated Zai and Nokomi's apparently good looks together. Once again, the mercenary found amusement in his embarrassed acquaintance's reaction and Loki's consistently comical antics. He himself was just beginning to feel the acohol now, that vibrational state ever present before true drunken stature.

So with such in mind, his mood was definitely one of amusement, and he gave a sly grin in Nokomi's direction, his brow raised curiously at her reaction. But he too raised his acohol to his lips, taking the contents in deeply. Loki was out, now passed out on the table's edge, still in her seat-- he supposed he'd have to carry her back up to her room, not a great task given airbenders were so often carried with ease. "Well that's an interesting point," he said with a chuckle while his gaze was avoid at near any cost. The question before still lingered with Zai, but he figured she'd essentially given her response.

Acohol drowned out any real curiosity, as it was.

Nokomi

Nokomi cleared her throat awkwardly, then took another sip. "Umm...anyways...yeah, ask away." she said. She decided to do as Zai was doing, and not acknowledge Loki's drunken statement. Her bottle was now almost completely empty, all that remained were the very last sips. She supposed the reason she'd been so embarrassed was probably because she'd never really thought of anyone like that. She was a very solitary figure. Being alone was all apart of who she was, what she did, and where she'd go in life; she had no intentions of changing that anytime soon. She looked back at the bar, signaling the waitress for another bottle. As long as she was up, she might as well be drinking. It wasn't like she allowed herself to become intoxicated all that often anyways. The waitress brought the drink quickly, and Noko passed her a few copper pieces in return before looking at Zai expectantly.

Hakota-Zai

Zai's drink grew thin, and he hadn't the coin for another. He mulled over what he could ask Nokomi. He knew very little of her, yet he was terrible at asking one about personal details; he was blank for a moment or two as he swirled the few remaining portions of his drink. What would be a question someone would ask him, he pondered this a moment and came to the conclusion asking what had happened to anyone's face but his own would be an insult, so he decided the next best question people often requested of him. A grim subject in his own case.

"So.. We've seen yer brother, but what of the rest of your family? If you don't mind my asking, that is." He knew personally well that some rather not speak of family, or in other cases had none. One could only really hope such a question did not strike hidden regrets or sadness in another's heart. But the vagrant mercenary was somewhat curious now about Nokomi's relatives, given today one had tried to retrieve her for some odd reason or the another.

Nokomi

Other family? Nokomi snorted, noticing that Zai was low on drink, and passed him her bottle in case he wanted more. If not, it didn't matter to her. She mulled over the question, deciding to answer. She didn't know if it was the drink or not, but she was feeling generally more talkative than usual. "Oh, you know. Same sob story you hear all the time; my parents are dead, my sister drowned. I have an uncle somewhere but we're not on speaking terms and I don't think of him often. What of you?" She answered, not a tone of regret or sorrow in her voice. It was just cold, simple fact, as one would say the answer to an arithmetic question.

Hakota-Zai

Zai took the bottle gratefully, pouring his cup some of the drink, but still sure to leave plenty for Nokomi. 'Twas, after all, her drink. He sipped away at the liquid slowly, enjoying the warmth and comfort it brought, though Nokomi began on her family. She was quite passive in mentioning the near-extinct nature of her immediate relatives. Zai regretted the question, but he was glad Nokomi could approach it so casually. It meant she had come to terms with it, or so Zai hoped.

"...What of you?" Hakota should have see the question coming, but it was unavoidable now. He thought a moment on how to present the answer to her...

"Couldn't really say, well... Asides from my sister, who as you now know tore off a good half of my face. But we never really knew our parents, only heard from a.... Family friend, let's say, that told us we were siblings, but didn't mention our parents much. I was raised by an adopted family on Kyoshi while my sister grew up in the streets of Ba Sing Se. I got the better deal for once," he said with similar casual posture, but it did strike him a little on the inside, not that he had no real family to speak of, but memories of Kyoshi island and his actions there before leaving. He shook them off, taking a deeper drink of his renewed glass of alcohol

Nokomi

Noko nodded at Zai's answer, making no remark. It seemed to be a sore subject, and she didn't like getting too close to others anyways. Instead, she just sipped at her bottle, thinking of her sister. The memories were more vague than ever before, and she could hardly remember her sister's face, but she could remember the drowning with absolute clarity...

With a laugh, Noko pushed her sister into the river, jumping in after her as Tensei was off doing whatever it was that he did. Noko and Siri both liked having fun still, and left Tensei to be the stick in the mud. Siri splashed Noko, and she grinned before diving under, her whole body moving with the grace and agility of a serpent. She popped up right behind where Siri was supposed to be--but her sister was nowhere in sight. Swimming to the river bank, she frantically searched along the river for her sister.

Seeing her pulled along by the river's current, her head bobbing up and down under the water, arms frantically waving, Nokomi was filled with a deep fear and dread. She jumped in after her sister, intending to save her, but the current was too much. She grabbed onto a stone, a few yards away from her sister, but by then Siri was unconscious. Her body floated down under the river, and didn't resurface....Nokomi could do nothing to save her. But that didn't stop her from trying. Letting go of the stone she was using as an anchor, she dove under the water, trying to find Siri. There was nothing below. No body, no air bubbles; nothing. Noko pulled herself up to the river banks, using the fury she felt at herself to fuel her drive back to their camp. Grabbing her pack, some food, and Siri's bow, she ran away...

Nokomi looked up from looking in her bottle, looked at Zai for a half second, and turned back to the drink. She hadn't relived that memory in a long time; she shivered, then downed the rest of the bottle, eyes watering from the burning sensation of the liquor passing down her throat that was tight with unseen tears.

Hakota-Zai

They both withheld any remarks, perhaps such was for the better-- the subject had indeed been sore for the both of them. But Nokomi merely nodded in response and resumed to silence. Zai swirled the fluids in his own drink, the mention of family on the brink of bringing that sad, bloody painted face back to his mind. He quickly fended the thoughts off with the remainder of his drink. He'd need more if he were to truly forget that face for the night.

Spacing out in recalling some poor memory was something Zai was all too familiar with, and it hit Nokomi hard. He watched as she mindlessly stared at her drink, her thoughts somewhere else entirely. Torn between waiting for her to find her own way from the memory and interrupting such, Zai chose to let her relive whatever she recalled. In the mean time, Zai ordered a large bottle of some strong liquor, putting it on a tab under his name-- this was perhaps the only place he wasn't in debt in all the Earth Kingdom.

Eventually Nokomi stirred from her recollection, quickly looking to Zai and downing the rest of her own bottle, a notion Zai heartily agreed with as he downed a good half of his own. "Ya alright, Nokomi," he asked, looking to her again. Figuring he already knew the answer, he topped her glass with his own liquor. " 'Ere... Ya look like ya need it more than I do." Still a good portion remained in the large bottle, and the amount Zai had already consumed was catching up with him.

Nokomi

Nokomi appreciated the drink in her cup, and Zai for providing more. Within seconds, that was gone too. "Thanksh.....whattaya do for a livin'?" she asked, attempting to change the subject; Siri's laughter was ringing in her ears, a ghost of a memory flashing before her eyes everytime she blinked. It was an honest question, and she didn't exactly care if he asked for her occupation either. She was too far gone to even care about whether or not he knew.
